Well is it? I think so and equally important to buying more players in the last 5 days of the window is shifting out the serious amount of deadwood we currently have. I think if we have a smaller squad we could do better. Too many players who are not good enough and who can't step up their game and as a result it indirectly affects the rest of the squad. Here is hoping to at least get two to three more signings and selling like 7 players this week!

We need a legitimate center back to control our defense. We don't have a single player I would trust to play at the back all season.

I miss watching us defend properly.

I would go as far to say I would rather us to add a quality defender to our squad rather than get Vidal.

We need both though obviously...

2 more players, which has been widely reported as what we are going for anyway, and shift a lot of the shite wood we have in the squad. There's no panic there imo. That seemed to be the plan before this game and I imagine it will be after the game. I think it's more important we do actually isgn 2 more players, a CB and a CM, now but that is based on the last 12 months, not this game.
Definitely dont panic, just make sure we do press ahead with our plans now.

Did that match really tell us anything new about what we need for the first team, or who needs to be sold?

We still need a top class midfielder or two and cover at full back and the likes of Young, Valencia, Hernandez and probably two of Fellaini, Fletcher, Cleverley and Anderson are expendable.

Tonight hasn't changed my opinion. We need two more in.

The number of players surplus to requirements is in double figures.

Hopefully this result will push the team into the transfer market or sort of insert some urgency with which we should be doing business if we weren't already.

We needed a top class centre back and we didn't get one. We needed two midfielders and we've only got one. Di Maria is an excellent signing but we've still neglected the areas which needed most attention.

Panic buy? No. Buy players in the positions we've desperately needed strengthening in since the start of the window? Definitely.

CB and a CM please, then sell the feck out of some dross.

I don't really see tonight as a reason to panic we started with 5 youth team players and not long into the game we took off one of our more experienced players for another young player (albeit he's our latest next big thing), we also played a player in midfield who we had hoped we'd seen the back off following his loan last season

I agree we need a CB but I don't know who, Hummels isn't for sale and Benatia looks like he's going to Munich.

People need to relax with Ron Vlaar, He's an Aston Villa defender who hasn't stuck out for them as being top 4 quality, He had a decent world cup and people are suddenly talking about him as if he's just burst onto the stage!

If I saw it right LVG said we wont buy anyone else till the end of TW.

Hmmmm... I'm could be wrong, but I understood that he meant we lost points and got eliminated from this cup because we didn't make transfers....

Michael Keane is not what I class as a youth team player anymore. James, yes. Keane has had a couple of loans, so is actually got some experience and should certainly be able to cope with MK Dons.

Buy some experience into the squad if we can't get our top targets. There must be players out there.

City did it with the odd player like Barry and Arsenal did it with Arteta. Even Yossi went around Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal. Not the most talented but do the job whilst we build.

Some fans will moan like feck if we buy Blind or any other non 'World Class' player. We are in a bad way at the moment, we need players who can create stability, it doesn't necessarily have to be a superstar.

Blind and/or De Jong. Said it all summer. Need someone to hold the midfield and make sure United don't get waltzed through like tonight.
I would even throw Vlaar in there. I know people don't think they are quality enough, but if LvG is going to persist with this system then they know how it works. These big name players are fine but if they need to learn this system as well we are in trouble. Those three could communicate with the other players and keep them in line.

We are in this position exactly because we bought mostly that kind of players over the last years.

I wouldn't call it panic buying. We badly need a CB that is a leader, a CDM and a world class CM. It's not like we thought we were done with our spending and then we started like this so decided to go back into the market. That would be panic buying.

We really need someone holding in the middle. i would go all out on Carvalho, even though he is a bit unexperienced. Otherwise De Jong would be a good solution for 2 years.

We need glue. That's what we need. A player who knows how to play in the system, and can take the lead.

Right now, De Jong or Blind would be good buys. Not necessarily building a team around them, but we need a player that can already play in LVG's system.
It's just too new for the whole squad right now apart from RVP, who may not even start every game.

We need to panic replace. Get rid of the deadwood, and bring in players instead of them who can play effectively to the system.

From BBC: "Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, when asked if the club would be signing any more players in this transfer window: "No. This is same question your other colleagues have put. We know exactly what we are doing. We have lost in the Capital One Cup, and so tonight has cost us the chance of a trophy, and that is disappointing."

In: Vidal and any, PL-experienced defender. Vlaar, feck it.

Out: Hernandez.

Exactly. Some are panicking and knee-jerking way too much because of tonight.

That is exactly what it was . Just hope that the club is not just relying on Di Maria.

If there is anything we need to throw money at it's something to help us avoid all of these injuries. Seems like too many just to be a bit of bad luck.
