Thomas Tuchel | Gone to & from Bayern (In Summer)

He'd be my number 1 choice as next manager, but he's not perfect to say the least.

Just curious, but why? He's failed in his last two jobs (arguably three), he seems to antagonize players and club management, and his playstyle doesn't really suit us.

Was foreseeable but I think they'll regret burning Tuchel so quickly next season. They won't find a better coach than him and it will become increasingly more difficult to find a scapegoat
You say that but he's fallen out with every single board he's ever worked with. He might be a good coach but he creates a toxic environment, which doesn't work for anyone.

Tuchel has you literally believe that your squad is better player for player than ours. Nobody needs to know more than that to see that he needs to go.

I think he would do better than Ten Hag at United, but he has not done enough to deserve the job.

Yes but I think Bayern took care of it themselves this team or at least contributed to it. Seems like a toxic environment right now. Last season, they fired a coach who was still in all three competitions because he was one point behind in the table. This season, they fire a coach who has collected the most points after 22 games in the last 8 years or so after ignoring all his feedback on the squad completely.

I don't see which available coach could live up to those expectations.

Plenty of time for them to get Alonso’s deal on the table and an attractive proposition for him to take over a giant on a low ebb.

Unlucky Pool, maybe go for Eddie Howe if Tuchel goes to Newcastle? Or perhaps Potter?

If Alonso has the choice, he'd be an absolute fool to choose this mess over Liverpool.

Are Bayern just suffering from a lack of German talent? Normally they'd poach the best German players but these days are the top German players that good? At international level they've been floundering.

What's more, they aren't bringing in top quality international players for the most part (a few exceptions). The weakness of the league can cover up for what they lack but they got off lucky last year and now it seems they are getting found out.

Leverkusen are putting together a historic season. This Bayern team with their current points trajectory would probably be enough to win the title in most other seasons, but Tuchel or not, this Leverkusen team, if they keep this level up, would probably win the title in any of the last 10 seasons, certainly since Pep left.

Tuchel is the also the first coach to achieve 50 points after 22 match days since Guardiola. And your squad looks bad because it is nowhere near the standard you're used to, not because of Tuchel.

Always seems to leave clubs on a bitter note...I really rated him around the time of the Chelsea CL win but the toxicity would make me very wary.

Good in cup competitions, but doesn’t seem to have the personality or style that seems to translate nearly as well in a league setting more often than not. I really rated him at one point, but he just underwhelms. I wouldn’t be worried if he went to Liverpool, which says it all.

Like it or not, if INEOS decide to move on from Ten Hag this summer (which I think is very possible if they finish outside the CL places and are trophyless) I think Tuchel will be one of the favourites for the job.

It's based on hearsay, something about his ability to combat Pep's football. His personality is the biggest drawback indeed, soft skills matter. I'm not willing to fire EtH to get him though.

Another club that will be looking for a manager. Hopefully, we are working behind the scenes, even without Ashworth. I just hope we don't end up with Potter. :nervous:

I know confidence is high right now, but you must be, at least, a little concerned about why they are announcing this now, given Alonso’s links to the club.

I can’t help but feel you might be in for a nasty surprise.

Not gonna lie, it's pre lunch and I cracked a beer open once reading the news.

I think Alonso would be foolish to join Bayern now.

He should wait until 2025 at least(maybe even 2026) to decide what he wants to do going forward in his career.

It's not about confidence. I was very skeptical if we can retain him because of a possible Real move in 2024 up until Ancelotti's contract extension. I believe that there is already a gentlemen's agreement in place which is why I wasn't nervous about Liverpool either. Rolfes was also very clear on him staying:

As defensive as Rolfes was in this matter, he was equally unequivocal about the future of coach Xabi Alonso. Although the Basque is still under contract with Bayer 04 until 2026, it is well known that the 42-year-old is considered the hottest successor candidate to Jürgen Klopp at FC Liverpool, who will be leaving Anfield Road in the summer.

Will Xabi Alonso stay at Bayer? "Yes," Rolfes stated without reservation, "I'm sure of that." Of course, one could interpret this statement as the managing director's attempt to avoid additional unrest in the title race. However, Rolfes is not a manager who makes such statements in the style of Konrad Adenauer ("What do I care about my chatter from yesterday").

So far, Rolfes has been very transparent in his communication for us. I'm pretty sure Alonso is off to Madrid in 2025 or 2026. I would rule out that he moves in 2024. And Bayern and Liverpool need coaches now.

If he is ambitious and driven, I don’t see why he would wait if they come calling.

Despite the excitement I this thread, Leverkusen don’t have better players that Bayern Munich. If he wants to see what his system is capable of when having the best players in the league every week, then it’s the next logical step.

I don't see it honestly. He is realistically a 1 season manager at this point and then things fall apart in the 2nd season. We might as well keep ETH at that point as he's already completed that disaster cycle.

If Ten Hag goes (and he really should), I can see them going for a young up n coming manager that has a good style of play. That is the smart, long term decision.

Things change so quickly in football though. If the call is made today and he is given favorable conditions, I don’t see why he would feel obliged to keep a gentleman’s agreement for 2026. Anything could happen before then.

This would be a chance to walk into an elite club he has ties to, now. I think he would take it.

I am very surprised with his side's playing style. At dortmund and PSG he used to be known for his attractive play style and explansive football. Since moving to chelsea he has become way too pragmatic. He is definitely a good coach but not sure why he changed his management style.

He already had the chance to walk into an elite club in 2024 and decided not to take it. And that club was not any elite club, it was Real Madrid, the most important club in his CV. What could tempt him enough to sign for Bayern that didn't tempt him enough when Madrid came calling?

I mean, stranger things have happened so nothing is impossible but no matter from which perspective you look at it, it just doesn't make sense.

Odd to come to the conclusion he isn't the right manager but then you keep him for the rest of the season. :wenger:

Maybe to save a few million in getting rid of him now, but the dressing room and training ground will become very fractured if results turn worse.

Keeping him until the end of the season seems like an absolute cluster feck of a decision.

I’m kinda surprised he lasted less there than he did with us and he was only with us for like 18 months.

Gotta use the time to find a pen for Alonso to sign with, if we can get him. The board will probably assume he will come, just like I assumed that my ex didn't "actually" want to break up with me and then be fecking fecked once next season starts.

If they're going to keep him until the end of the season I don't understand why they would announce he it now. They have a coach who now might truly not give a feck about what he's doing there.
There's also a long way to go in the season, what happens if HE gets them on the right track and they start improving significantly, but now they've already sacked him.

So they can start making moves for Alonso in the hope of destabilising their rivals title push.
