Thomas Tuchel | Gone to & from Bayern (In Summer)

Weird club

Said when they won the CL that they'll implode in a year or two anyway so I wasn't bothered about them and got laughed out the room.

Chelsea have a way of making the boom / bust cycle work.

People making out it’s the only the start of the season; it’s not. They’ve been poor since the new year pretty much. It was even a slim chance they’d miss top 4 at one stage but the three chasing weren’t consistent enough.

On top of that the signings have been poor including a massive dud in Lukaku. Yes, you can say he maybe wasn’t deciding all of these things but he also wasn’t making them work either.

After Mourinho's first tenure, Chelsea managers average approximately 70 games in charge - that's about a season and a half. Still, they have had the most success of any English club outside of Man City in that period.

The circus will pay him a fortune.

Absolutely but it could hurt his career going there. The dressing room seems a mess and the transfers mostly seem the exact opposite of what Potter goes for.
I could see Potter taking over from Pep if he bides his time.

Definitely dream job, but I actually agree that Potter should stay far away from this.

They have invested heavily and the dressing room is not working. Potter has made his considerable success being given time and patience to build a club thats incredibly successful considering their stature. Chelsea might give him resources, but he is definitely not getting time.

Potter should, in my opinion, take on a club that has a history of backing their manager for longer than a month of hardship the day he leaves Brighton.

Sacking Tuchel is such a massively weird move considering the squad investment, something must have left his lips after the CL game that the American didnt appreciate one bit.
I think if Chelsea come knocking, with the money, fame and success it’s a ‘can’t turn down’ opportunity for Potter. I mean they just won CL only 2 seasons ago.

They have built their squad around Tuchels low block defensive set up - players like Koulibaly and Silva who don't suit a high line etc. They just got Aubamayang a few days ago, on Tuchel's specific request. I would say there was some kind of background falling out. Strange decision and timing.

Doesn't really matter though. Silva ain't getting any younger and they can easily play a back 4.

Cucurella and James are wing backs too, dunno how they'd do with a back 4.

Plus they need an extra CM if they chose to drop one of their CBs and we know from experience how hard it is to make a balanced midfield partnership.

What I don't understand is they say "it's the right time for the transition" when they could have sacked him in the summer. If you have such little faith in your manager as a new ownership that you sack within 4 games then you may as well have given a new manager preseason to work with.

His system seems ideal for their squad though.

Probably fluke another trophy or two at the end of the season now they’ve done this. They always come good out of it sacking managers no matter what stage of the season we’re in.

Insane decision.

Makes me think that the new owners never wanted him there anyhow.

So looks like Todd Boehly is just as ruthless as Roman was

Poch in or could they go get Potter from Brighton?

With Roman gone, Chelsea will gradually go back to their rightful standing as premier league mid-table filler. Maybe with a slight bump from some of the newer fans they picked up across the world during their wholly unearned success.

Hope they don't actually go for Potter though. He's mint. You know Brendan is your man Boehly!

Boehly picking up right where Roman left off. Stupid decision, I still think Tuchel is one of the best.

I hope they don't get Potter as I think he would do well with that squad, Poch please.

The difficulty they’ll have is the new manager will have to adopt a similar system with 3 at the back and wingbacks for now because of the profile of players they have. Which means potter is even more likely as he’s used to that system.

It’s hard to see 2 out of Chilwell, Cucurella, Thiago, Fofana, Koulibaly, James being benched permanently which is what would happen if they went to 4 at the back.

They're just a weird one. They spend daft money buying up every player who's half decent on Football Manager but don't sign a ST or balance out the forward line in any way. They throw a new defence together thinking it will just work then sack the manager a few games after the window's closed because he hasn't won every game.

Tuchel obviously wasn't the new management's preferred choice for manager but depending on who they appoint now and depending on players gelling, they could easily drop out of the top 4 this season.

At least they’re reacting quickly whereas we tend to wait until top 4 is mathematically gone and the dressing room is in tatters

Crazy to spend all that money on transfers then sack him a week after the window closes. I remember Chelsea fans saying he was here for the long term and the days of sacking managers every year are gone
