Thomas Strakosha

If you asked me before the window opened which positions do we least need reinforcements in I would have said LB GK and CAM. So naturally we go and sign Malacia Starkosha and Eriksen.

I find it so petty that people get so antsy about backup keepers. Very few top teams have 1 top keeper and a couple of homegrown backups. Most have established 2nd and maybe even 3rd keepers. Chelsea have done it for years - Hilario, Green, Kepa (albeit meant to be first choice), Caballero etc. City do it. Liverpool’s number 2 has been the Republic of Ireland number 1.

There’s far bigger issues to be annoyed about. Some of our fans seem to want to complain about everything about our club. Must be exhausting.

On Strakosha, he was really highly rated a while back. Fell off a bit certainly but stayed regular for Lazio. On a free why not?

But that’s daft. You’re stopping a young player even from playing in the youth team so that they can be a body around the side on match day who can sit on the bench if there’s an injury.
Hmm perhaps., but maybe a year training with the top keepers and then playing youth football thereafter could be just as beneficial? I'd even take the risk of only having two anyway, we took the risk often under Sir Alex and I only remember a couple of times when we came unstuck and an outfield player went in goal.

He's a backup goalkeeper on a free transfer. Some of you lot have ridiculous expectations.

What's the likelihood that both DeGea and Heaton will get long term injuries?

This is the kind of signing Liverpool never make. Has it had held them back in any way?

Has our tendency to pick up a new Lee Grant every other year benefitted the first XI in any way?

Funny we can always find money for a back up goalie but not a defensive midfielder.
It's not about both getting injured. If one is injured do you go in a match with no keeper on the bench?

I suggest you check Liverpool's keepers and GK transfers in the last 5-6 years. You'd be surprised

Top goalkeepers will not come to sit on the bench. You don't get the best in class. Generally, it's up-and-coming young keepers or keepers in the twilight of their careers content with being on the bench and picking up decent compensation.

Sums up how our club are ran

Checked his stats on fbref.com, the stats says that he lets in more goals than what should be expected. Not by a big margin, but still de Gea do f.ex saves a lot more than expected.

Interesting I always thought he was a fine shot stopper at Lazio. Maybe had a loss of form this year

Strakosha is a free transfer who will most likely have a negligible impact on our wage budget. Statistically he looks pretty ordinary but as others have pointed out, top-level goalkeepers don't want to play second fiddle.

With Henderson in the squad we'd have had no need at all for a back-up goalkeeper. With Henderson out on loan it's actually quite an important need because otherwise we'd be an injury to De Gea away from having Tom Heaton, who has played 22 minutes of senior football in the past two seasons, as our starting goalkeeper. I really can't fathom why people have to be so miserable about even this; there's practically no risk involved here.

Very possibly the last position we need to fill. And those criticising Henderson clearly know little about goalkeeping. Are we really saying we don't have a good young keeper who would benefit by training with the first team and being on the bench?

If you asked me, I said we’d need a backup GK, because it was evident we wouldn’t be keeping De Gea and Henderson in the house for another year.

Getting the Lazio GK for our second choice seems pretty good pickings.

Wonder what his distribution is like?

Good.

Prone to errors though, not very commanding or vocal though just like De Gea.

I'd imagine he'll still start on the basis of his shot-stopping from last season and reputation, but if he reverts back to the form of the couple of seasons before that and starts making errors I think Strakosha would step in.
