That is because we can't lock one of our youth goalies, completely blocking their development, just to stay back and be second backup to De Gea. We need a third keeper in case one of the senior keepers (De Gea and Heaton) gets injured. It is absolutely the right thing to do.It's so strange. Committing 10s of thousands a week to a player who basically never plays cos DeGea's fit 90% of the time.
This will be our second signing and, in both cases, you can argue we've strengthened positions that were not priorities.
The youth goalies are sent on loan to gain first team experience, which for a keeper is massively more important in their early years. They can't afford to sit and play in the kids leagues.
