Television Tho Prop Grops Throps

 I remember watching that on Youtube and then reading about it.

"Of all the stunts that we did to get the people to understand that I was a scoundrel, was that one. When we rehearsed, I wasn't really hardcore harsh. When we did it live in front of the crowd and it got to the place where he dribbles the ball, he was supposed to get to 15, he gets to 14 and I stick my foot out and the ball bounces off my foot. Everybody knows I just screwed this poor little kid. I say to him, 'I'm sorry son, but at a young age, you're going to have to learn a harsh lesson of life. When you don't get the job done, you don't get the money.' My loud voice and deep voice scared him. He had these great big crocodile tears. He ran to his mother. In reality, he couldn't have done it any better. We couldn't have rehearsed it. It wasn't that good when we rehearsed it. I look like the biggest heel because I just made this little boy cry. I remember going in the back and everyone's saying, 'oh man, that was great.' I said, 'it might have been great, but you guys are going to need an armored car to get me out of this building tonight. Those people want to lynch me right now.'"

SEND ME ANY FORMER CHAMPION. I DON'T CARE IF IT'S KANE, JOHN CENA

OMG NOT BOB BACKLUND!!! NOOOO.

Does anyone listen to John Pollock and Wai Ting's FightNetwork wrestling podcasts? They do three per week, Review A Raw (for Raw) Review a Impact (for Impact) and Review a Wai (for older shows)... and they're generally excellent podcasts..

Anyway, this weeks Review-A-Wai is all about the RAW episode that has the infamous HHH/Katie Vick Necrophillia storyline, and it's a superb listen... they review the show, then get two writers who were there at the time on to talk about it, certainly worth an hour an 40 minutes of your time.

So the card for Sunday:

WWE Championship:
CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan with AJ as the special guest referee

WWE Tag Team Championship:
Kofi Kingston and R-Truth vs. Camacho and Hunico

World Heavyweight Championship:
Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio

Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a WWE Championship Contract:
Big Show vs. Chris Jericho vs. John Cena vs. Kane

Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a World Championship Contract:
Christian vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Damien Sandow vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Santino Marella vs. Sin Cara vs. Tensai vs. Tyson Kidd

Some randon Ryback/Brodus Clay squash
Predictions? I'm going for:

WWE Championship:
CM Punk - but as I've said a couple of times before, I have no issue with DB winning. Would be great to see him as champion.

WWE Tag Team Championship:
Kofi Kingston and R-Truth - but who really cares?

World Heavyweight Championship:
Sheamus - can't see him losing.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a WWE Championship Contract:
John Cena - the only realistic contender from the group.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a World Championship Contract:
Cody Rhodes - I expect this to be a good match, but it's slightly saturated with wrestlers. Some good high flyers in there though. Would love to see Dolph Ziggler win but am going for a Rhodes victory here.

Paddy Power actually take bets on WWE PPVs by the way, just in case people were unaware. I was surprised at this due to how many people are usually correct with predictions.

I've gone for an accumulator of Punk/Cena/Sheamus to all win.

I just want the Undertaker back.

There's a chance for that to happen at Raw 1,000 in a couple of weeks; the guest list of returning superstars is already looking pretty impressive, with

Bret Hart set to return in the GM role for the night
and probably the usual legends, as well as The Rock.

How can you take bets on something that's fixed in advance? :wenger:

Most people don't actually know the outcomes, Paddy Power limits the stakes to protect itself, and I'd imagine they monitor activity of people who win consistently (eg the max I can currently bet on Sheamus is £204, and this weekend is my first WWE bet. If I'd won a few before I'd probably be allowed to bet even less).

The odds are also not great (Sheamus 4/7, Del Rio 5/4, a proper market with one person at 4/7 would have the other a lot closer to 7/4), and it'll bring people to his site.

FWIW I've got £3 on a Rhodes, Cena, Punk & Sheamus acca at 9/1.

To make up for RAW, Jericho and Sheamus had an excellent match on Smackdown, and Hunico and Gabriel had a pretty good one on Superstars as well, both definitely worth checking out.

I fancy Bryan, Sheamus, Cena (though I have a sneaky feeling Jericho might pinch it) and Rhodes for tomorrow.

Makes sense, I suppose. On the one hand you'd think it'd be worth their while putting a bit of money under the table to find out from WWE who the winners would be, but I guess it'd get out because you could tell from the odds - the person with the lowest odds would always win.

I am right in saying it's fixed though, aren't I? I mean, it's totally scripted. Not that that takes away from the entertainment value at all, so please don't consider this a dig, but who actually is it that decides these things? Do they have a team of scriptwriters, or is it more improv than that and just sort of a "it's about time Wrestler X beat Wrestler Y" type of thing?

Well one of the current criticisms is that it's a bit predictable, and I suppose the odds are set by people following the storylines etc, and see whose getting a push (the writers are trying to make them more popular, give them wins etc)

They do have a team of scriptwriters called WWE creative. 100% scripted (unless you get the odd "shoot", but that's rare, see the montreal screwjob). They'll try to build up storylines over time, but the current quality of WWE creative is in question, and they've been accused of making some things up as they go along. Generally speaking though, it's sort of like a violent soap opera if that makes sense, with long term storylines and character development.

Maybe Stone Cold and HBK too I hope.

Found this on another forum...

A mixture of both. They have scriptwiters for what they're going to say or do or how they want a match to go but a lot of it is down to the 2 wrestlers involved as to what actually happens in the ring.

Had to watch Magic Mike last night (don't ask) and spent the whole time laughing at how utterly cringeworthy Kevin Nash throughout.

Hopefully not just HHH and HBK. I'd love Road Dogg, Billy Gunn and X-Pac to appear as well.

Road Dogg and X-Pac work for the company now, so if they got Billy Gunn to agree to make an appearance, that could easily happen.

After the Chyna sex tapes, i'm assuming she won't be making an appearance?

Shame, as she was integral to the early days of Triple H's WWF/WWE career.

Can you explain what this is? Looking it up on Wiki but it's just big walls of text. Fixed match gone wrong?
Unscripted moment or event that breaks Kayfabe.
