This could just be the beginning of our decline

It is most likely that we will now not find a way into the Champions League. Europa league is by no means certain.

We are looking for a 'world class' manger / coach - but which world class manager would want to take on a team that isn't in the Champions League and has no realistic chance of winning its domestic league in the foreseeable future ? Going to a club that isn't going to be competitive is going to hurt their marketability.

With the lack of Champions League it is likely that a number of our more high profile players , even if some are some of the older ones will move on; Ronaldo, Cavani, Pogba - no matter how you see their value it doesn't send a positive message to those 'left behind' and any manager considering coming to OT.

Similarly with the difficulty we are probably going to experience with recruiting a top manger, we can expect the same difficulty in attracting the very best bright young players. For players in their late teens or early twenties there have to be at least 4 or 5 clubs that seem more attractive than we do. Those playing Champions League football, and though I hate to say it even Tottenham. Imagine visiting a run down OT and a run down Carrington and then going to London and seeing Tottenham shiny new stadium and top of the line training facilities. It also quite feasible that London holds more of a draw for young superstars than Manchester does unless you are going into a team that is going to compete seriously for the big trophies in the next couple of years.

Clearly not being competitive nor attractive to a top coach, nor attractive to top players with then have a compounding effect one on the other where we could finish up with a bang average manager with bang average players - despite us massively overpaying to recruit and keep them.

As bad as it has been for the last decade I think that there is possibly much worse to come.

I didn’t read all of that but in case the op forgot I just want to add to the misery:
WHO the hell would want to live in rainy Manchester and even more be at OT with the leaky roof. The sky is also not always blue.
Oh and in previous years since 2013 our CL presence gave us truly world class managers in their prime and players who won us PL and CL trophies. Now we might not be in it we will miss out on all those legendary people. Such a shame.

There are helplines out there, you don't have to go through this on your own.

I don’t feel this way but it’s depressing to think about

step away from the edge

I am not sure which of these is currently winning for making me laugh most. I'm just being realistic.

However, with Bury getting promoted we may have a new derby in our hands in the not too distant future. See - every cloud has a silver lining.

And you wonder why no one invites you to parties!

It’s like the NFL - first we need a good manager and until we get one we have to keep hiring and firing. Moyes could have done with the patience we showed solskjaer - fergie might have been right about moyes. In the NFL they call it the Dalton line - if your manager is on or under that line your search continues. The problem is really length of time it takes to realise we’ve made a mistake and how much they waste in the meantime. It took us 20 odd years to hit on fergie.

You know, with the way the world is going, this could just be the beginning of the end.

You have the war in Ukraine, famine likely coming soon, pestilence all over. The four horsemen are running riot. Covid could mutate into a zombie virus, or worse, kill us all. Nuclear war is at our doorstep. Even if we survive nuclear war, the cost of living is going to kill most of us. And hell we'll all need air conditioning freezers with global warming and the climate crisis.

So no point worrying about anything because we're all going to die slowly and painfully anyway.

Honestly I think everything you're saying applied after Moyes, LVG and Jose left so I don't see how it's gotten worse. It's the same.

I thought the false misery was bad under Ole, but jesus this last load of weeks you think we were Burnley.

It's insane

You're wrong on all counts.

It doesn't really matter where we end up this season, we fecked up a lot in the past while playing in the CL and spending a lot. Our progress in the future will start the moment we start making the correct footballing decisions, after that it could be actually faster than most people would expect. If you have a good football set up and the money to back it, you'll be up there with the rest.

This isn’t even close to the beginning, anyway

Were Liverpool in champions league when Klopp came in?
