Just saw a tweet which started off 'BREAKING NEWS: Manchester United confirm...' and my heart skipped a beat. Turned out to be about Meulensteen. :(

Happened to me yesterday watching SSN hearing "Breaking news coming out of Manchester..." Only for it to be about that cnut Tevez

Press Association are the latest to report that he's told Barca he wants to leave to come here. Other places have said similar but PA are reliable aren't they?

Lets be honest now, it would be a pretty big surprise if he doesn't come after all that's been reported so far. Seems like a matter of when it'll happen to me.
Hope so at least :nervous:

Yeah same happened to me when I was watching SSN yesterday at 11am, the only breaking news that came was the manager merry go round at PSG and Madrid. fecking Cider :(

I wonder, if this does fall though, do we have a back up plan? Or is it Thiago or bust?

The way I'm reading it right now is that he WILL be our player unless Barca throw a crap load of money at him and "guarantee" him a starting spot. Over to you Barca...

It's really not that unlikely at all. The same things were said multiple times in the Sneijder thread. If he comes, he comes. If not someone else will come in or someone else will step up. The endless speculation is just so incredibly boring at this point.

Yeah they're reliable alright, but i do understand the nervousness of this deal by us lot - it must be hard to leave Barca to come to sunny Manchester. As soon as he gets to the club he'll realise he's made the right decision tho. That always seems to be the hardest part - gettin the best players in the friggin door!

I've kinda had the impression that our recruitment policy (young hungry players) has alot to do with us not bein able to attract the best at-their-peak players available, we seem to have been knocked back a shit-load of times, but probably thats got alot to do with over-inflated cost of player & his wage demands also. It would be nice to see that all change & we start gettin big-name signings in that are a perfect fit for the club - like Thiago... and of course get Ronnie back too

Can't see anything on the Press Association site?

Thats the general consensus man, but at United - we dont take anything for granted... He better sign tho or there'll be mass-muppet suicide with our lot!

Don't think they'd have it on their site. They're an agency that provide news to other places, like the BBC.

Saw it mentioned first on Barca forums, then noticed somebody from BBC Sport mentioned it on Twitter;

Cool, that's great news. Can't see the PA speculating at all.

I think that's because it's Barcelona, and Thiago being such a talent, a perfect age, and an absolute bargain for the price quoted it's just difficult to imagine such a deal happening.

I hate seeing MUFC in blue... least of my worry's of course, but still hate it tho as it looks like MCFC ffs & i want nothin positive attributed to that cnut of a club

I've been asking this myself. I'd think we do, I just hope that by the time we realize it's not going to work out(if it doesn't), it won't be too late to get the back-up

Yup, that, and probably because it's United chasing him and the last few years we've had a few disappointments when we were so close (Hazard, Lucas, Sneijder, etc.). The feeling on the barca forums, and most other places is that he's basically ours but of course until it's official, it'll be pretty negative in here.

Just tell the pricks they can have him back at 28 for a cool 150 million Eurodollarpounds

Yeah, lets start puttin rediculous release-clauses in all our contracts from now on - just to take the piss out of this relatively recent retarded detail in many contracts nowadays - mostly on the continent i suppose...

Although if we get Thiago - i'll bless the day release-clauses were introduced

Heart skipped a beat reading 'rejected the chance' thinking he'd turned us down.

Nothing new at all. That Barca knows that he'll leave for United but want to hear it from him and that Mazinho made a deal with us last week.

And he'll get paid 5m, not 6m.

U can add Bale to that list aswell man. If memory serves - we wouldnt pay him the same wages as Spuds. I knew then, that could turn out to be a massive feck-up on our part & it has, because how good would we have been in the past few seasons with him in the team - especially since Ronnie left, he could have been the difference in gettin another Champions League title we missed out on :(

I'm so confused. Didnt we agree terms?

Manchester United have agreed a £17 million fee for Barcelona’s Thiago Alcantara and now want to hold talks with the midfielder, SportsDirect News understands.
The Spain Under-21 captain recently guided La Rojita to the European Championship victory in Israel where he scored a hat-trick in the final against Italy.
The 22-year-old is determined to be part of the Spain senior squad for next summer’s World Cup as the champions look to retain their trophy.
Barca have tried in vain to convince him that he is a key part of their future plans, however, Thiago is not convinced he will be given enough regular first-team football at the Camp Nou with Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Cesc Fabregas all ahead of him in the midfield pecking order.
United manager David Moyes wants to add quality to his midfielder this summer and can offer the Spaniard the regular starting XI berth he craves and SportsDirect News now understands the two clubs have agreed a fee of £17 million for the player.
The Red Devils now want to speak to the midfielder to discuss personal terms as he is likely to be courted by other European heavyweights such as Bayern Munich and cross-town rivals Manchester City.
