Nice one Relevated. More of that please.

Edit: Thiagometer.

Just popping in before bed. Seems I missed a photo-related dip, which is good, and get to enjoy another bit of genius from Olly, which is better. Bravo!

But best of all is TN. Comfortably the most entertaining thing in this thread. I've seen toddlers in supermarkets having tantrums that are less attention-seeking and more useful.

He is 101% going to sign for us...according to Katherine Hughes...(yes, related to Mr Mark Hughes himself).

Yep, one of the few people in the thread who didn't rock themselves to sleep tonight after having a cry-wank is throwing a tantrum. Good one.

Entertaining is useful, no? Christ, some of you take this place, and yourselves, far too seriously.

I enjoy muppeting but I've just seen that I have 119 posts in this thread. That's unhealthy. I even took a sick day yesterday. I convinced myself that I felt really poorly but deep down inside I knew it was because I didn't want anything to district me from this thread. I need an intervention.
 bad case of muppetitis, did the doctor say he could cure it? Or will it be chronic? I heard it's like Hayfeaver, once you catch the virus you get it most summers.

When did you make your first post? I have 50+ posts and I have been posting for less than a week.

Old version...

 nice one Olly! I think I like this one more, if Thiago had a United shirt on.

Muppets lost

Class as always.

Is he similar to Carrick's or scholesy's type of CM? Or is he another Kagawa? I've never seen him play or heard much about him before.

Just a theory but I get a feeling that Barcelona wants to dispose him off and get the money to sign Thiago Silva.

They've already signed Neymar for a ridiculous amount and if they want to sign a top class center back and a goalkeeper, then that going to take another 40m Pounds at least.
If they were so keen for Thiago to stay, then surely they would've played him enough times in order to ensure that his clause didn't drop down to 18m Euros. After all they did won the league quite early and could've easily given him enough minutes. I certainly don't buy the crap that Tito came out i.e he didn't knew the terms of Thiago's contract. I think for a big club like Barcelona that's nearly impossible.

Could be wrong but if they rated him so highly then surely they would've offered him a new contract and promise of regular place much earlier rather than giving him these promises and new contract when Thiago's agents have the upper hand.

He usually plays deeper than Kagawa. It's a cliche but he's very similar to Xavi.

So what you're saying is that it's on?

It's been said that vilanova wasn't aware of the clause. I think that at this point Barca want to get rid of him, and want as much money they can make from the sale.

He could be using us for a transfer too. Past August 1, he'll have a contract that runs through 2015 and pays 30k a week. You never know with footballers.

You could watch a YouTube video but be warned: it might result in you suffering crippling anxiety until this transfer is resolved. Depression may ensue if he decides to stay at Barca or go elsewhere!

All this Barca making the signing difficult etc just seems like a ploy for earn a few more million by way of a sweetener. Thiago is 22 now, he wants to be playing first team football at the very highest level. Many believe that he can be the best midfielder in the world and it is only natural that he wants a shot at becoming that. He can move to one of the few clubs that are the size of Barca and become the main man in his preferred role. I have been reluctant to say it or think it, but this transfer just seems the best for all involved, even Barca, it goes a long way to solving the Fabregas issue. We have to remember here too that Fabregas is the Catalan in the equation. Barca will always favour him over Thiago.

I'd post this in the Twitter thread but it usually makes it's way here anyway;

So nothing new.

He'll play any of the Scholes, Cleverley, Anderson or Giggs-in-the-middle sort of roles. A Xavi in position with a touch of the Iniestas going forward

In that picture of the Barca chaps and Mazinho, Mazinho is the one who doesn't look all that chuffed. He looks quite uncomfortable. The sort of uncomfort you'd expect from a guy who has just told Barca to go feck themselves.

It's never been more on than how on it is right now.

I refuse to believe this will happen, based purely on the fact it'd mean we're signing an actual midfielder

I'm going on a Muppet Fast for a few days, refuse to post in this thread until he signs.

Very interesting train of thought Karan. I guess £18m might not be much but its a start and they surely will have some money to spend of their own. ter Stegen still on the cards for them? Silva will also cost a boatload of money. They are selling Villa as well. So add another £10m. I still think they might convince Valdes to stay just another year unless they can recoup some more money to buy someone long term.

On KM's points.

Yes, the signs (in the Spanish press) are that Barcelona aren't fighting that hard for him - at 22, they may even agree that patience is not necessarily a virtue. This article gives you an idea of the unattributed mutterings from the Barca management:
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...et-thiago-is-more-than-anarchist-8669363.html
If Manchester United can complete the signing of Barcelona’s Thiago Alcantara they will have captured one of European football’s most cavalier young talents – a free spirit whose penchant for trying the unexpected has attracted the interest of United, but also helped persuade Barça to let him go.

It now looks like their decision to set his buyout clause as low as £15m will go down as one of the gaffes of the summer – Barcelona could have raised considerably more after he starred in Spain Under-21s European Championship triumph this month. But the bargain price hints at a nagging doubt shared by certain members of the club’s technical staff, who believe he gives the ball away too much and is slow to win it back. They say he is an anarchist on the pitch.

Xavi had some injuries a couple of years back, that seemed to be wear and tear and I think Barca started to think about replacement. Fabregas was ready-made and heir apparent, but with Xavi still playing a full season, now he's just competing for Thiago's match time.

And yes, they need the money. They do want to reinforce the defence. Neymar cost them most of their spending money. Villa still hasn't left and probably won't fetch that great a price. So unless a mega-bid comes in for Sanchez I think they've got one eye on the balance sheet and that will affect how they handle Alcantara.
