Promising stuff...

I even tweeted that clown. The email seems to travel slowly. Could it be a telegraph?

This is too good to be true, won't happen. Barça will somehow convince him to stay.
Surely staying At Barcelona isn't the hardest thing in the world to sell.

As much as I would like this to happen, I don't see why this player would want to leave. Clearly they rate him and eventually he will get regular games.

In that Star pic, it looks like Jose's started the mindgames already: "If Wayne joins us, I promise he'll have as much hair as me."

'Eventually' doesn't seem to be in his mindset though. He wants a shot at going to the World Cup, so he's desperate to be a first-name-on-the-team-sheet player in the coming season. I think he definitely would be here. I think he's already better than all the midfielders we have, except Carrick, though I think he's more capable of doing something special than Carrick.

Dont know if i like it or not...

Like it. Rooney's going nowhere, and that article is clearly based on pure bollocks anyway. I particularly like the way they're about to intimate that Rooney is a Drogba-esque striker at the end of the bit we can see there. Clearly they know their stuff!

Pogba eventually would have got regular games with us but he decided to join Juve to get games instantly. It could be something similar here.

The key word is eventually. From his perspective he's already 22, yes Xavi is getting up there but Iniesta still has at least 3 seasons of top production left in him. Busquets and Fabregas are both in their prime and he has also seen them sign Mascherano and Song (defensive CMs I know but still) in the last couple years. Yes he will eventually be a starter for them, but conservatively it'll be at least another 2-3 years. So he can stay and wait for that, or come to United and instantly be favoured for a starting 11 role. Is staying at Barcelona really that awesome to be worth missing out on any shot at the 2014 WC or 2016 Euros?

From interviews he seems to be a very level headed and professional player for his age. He wants to play because he knows the lack of minutes will prevent him from maximizing his talent. He knows that despite all the Barca adoration there are other great clubs in the world. A couple years ago he said something along the lines of "My aim is to be a great player. Whether at Barcelona or another club". Leaving Barcelona in order to get a chance at playing in the biggest games is probably a much easier sell to him than staying there.

We might get him, but from the start it has always seems a little unrealistic. I assumed it was his agent getting him a better deal.

Pogba never came through our ranks, so he had no real allegiance to us anyway, also
Thiago might well be looking at what happened to Pique at utd.

Give a shit about the Rooney story now... He's been gone for weeks in my mind, I couldn't even decide if I wanted him to do well when he was playing for England the other day. If he stays, it'll be like if we signed, I don't know, Frank Lampard. I'd be pretty stand-offish for some time, but doubtless end up singing his name as he bagged goals for us. His chances of ever having the affection our true legends do are already gone.

So, I'm only really interested in the story on the right.

He'd be daft to, and I'd be a bit miffed if he and his Dad thought that would be a factor. Pique's situation at United was almost like Thiago's situation at Barca. Good player who has what it takes to be a great player but has world class options ahead of him. Pique wasn't going to get past Rio or Vidic right away and he had to be patient. Thiago will struggle to establish himself whilst Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas are all options. Pique moved to get the playing time he felt he warranted. Thiago appears to be thinking along the same lines - hopefully.

And learning what? Piqué came to us as a 17-year-old. He'd never even had a professional contract before, let alone played a first team game. Even if Thiago was thick as two short planks (which I don't get the impression he is), he'd realise that there's virtually nothing useful in that comparison.

He might think about what happened to Piqué at Barca, however - that transfer happened at around the same age, I think.

Thiago Alcantara is poised to seal a £15million switch to Manchester United to realise his World Cup dream.
United are closing in on the capture of the sought-after Barcelona playmaker after detailed talks between the two clubs.
Thiago is ready to turn his back on Barca for the promise of more regular football with United, who will hand him a five-year deal.
The 22-year-old, who will become the first signing under new United manager David Moyes, was the star of the recent European Under-21s Championship.
His stunning hat-trick in Spain’s 4-2 victory over Italy in the final served to underline why he is considered one of the hottest young talents in world football.

And United are close to sealing the capture of Thiago, beating Bayern Munich and Chelsea, who were both desperate to sign the rising star.
Barca tried to talk him into staying at the Nou Camp, but it is understood the attacking midfielder feels his career will be best served with a move to United.
Former Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson tried to buy him two years ago, and the player has now been assured he will be a regular starter under Moyes, should he make the switch.
Thiago is said to see a move away from Barca as being crucial to his chances of making Spain’s squad for next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
It is understood United are hopeful of announcing the signing early next week, once the deal has been formalised with Barca and the player.

It's fecking on!

I'm not sure this reasoning to play more games to get into the Spain squad is something I would take that seriously. He'd be noticed more in his own country playing less games, and he'd still be competing with the same players - Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, and Alonso.

Pique's grandfather had a falling out with the Barca board too, right? In addition, Pique joined United before the Ronaldinho era when the Barca stock was low.

I think being a key player for us is going to win him more regard than being a reserve for Barcelona. If he comes here, he's going to shine.

Playing week in week out for a major team is more helpful than partaking in the inevitable drubbing of some Canary Island team.

Can't get past the players at club level, but can defo get into the international setup if he's playing for a different club. Sure.

I have to be in front of the computer throughout the weekend. All the reports talking about early next week are tearing my soul apart; this will be one of the most horrible weekends of my life.

No one is saying he will definitely get into the national team. If someone is injured come WC time, then if he has played consistently over the course of this year, then Del Bosque will be inclined to pick him. Maybe he doesnt Bosque saying to him not getting enough games is a reason he cant go to the WC.

Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, and Alonso.

It's who is missing from that list that is key. Messi, Neymar, Song, Mascherano (not all in direct competition for a place, but all taking up space and limiting midfield options).

The only possible way he's got of taking a slot alongside the four you list in the Spain squad is by establishing himself as first name on the team sheet at one of Europe's top clubs. And nobody else of our stature is crying out for a midfielder like we are.

Yep, I think is more just a justification by Thiago. Chances are low that he'll get in Spain's squad for WC2014 be it here or playing at Barca. Though probably he has more chances here when he could potentially start 35+ games than in Barca when he would start about 20. While, he could easily shine in England and be one of the top midfielders if things go right, Del Bosque seems to don't care about that. De Gea who has undoubtedly been the best Spanish keeper during the last season has yet to play a game for Spain, while Mata who has been one of the top 5 players in England last season barely plays. Their quality is incredible. Martinez, Busquets, Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Cazorla, Mata, Silva and Navas are all incredible players. Isco and Thiago will need to do excellent next season in order to replace one of those players and the only two of those players I can see not called for WC are Cazorla and Navas. An injury on one of those players could play a part obviously, but is very hard.

Anyway if Thiago comes here, forms a good partnership with Carrick and dominate the league (I think that he has the quality to be the best midfielder in England even in his first season though it would be very difficult) he has a slim chance going to WC. Watching Barca games from bench would not give him even that slim chance.

feck about Indykaila, the email it's not even telegraph. It must be a raven send from Old Trafford with a note about the transfers.

Indy's email correspondent claims that the word has gone out: no Rooney promo stuff to be used during the pre-season tours.

Miguel Delaney saying that Barca want a buy back clause but united are "confident but nervy" which is a rather nice oxymoron.

It will be hard for him to get in even if he moves here.

Strikers - Villa, Torres, Soldado
Left Wing - Silva, Pedro
Right Wing - Navas, Mata
CAM - Fabregas, Cazorla
CM - Xavi, Iniesta
DM - Alonso, Busquets, Martinez

Thats around 14 players. Plus 3 GKs. The rest is defense - Pique, Puyol(?), Ramos, Alba, Arbeloa, Monreal(?), Cesar(?), Albiol.

They'res definitely a degree of favouritism towards players in Spain, or those like Silva who were already established in the team when they left Spain.

In fact, it seems a pretty good move once you're established. Not only does del Bosque not notice Mata being amazing, he doesn't notice Silva being total gash for much of the season.

He might replace Carzola if he has a stellar season.
