He's hardly going to say he's going to be a bench player is he. He's trying to sign the fecker, he'll tell him anything to get him here. Christ, are you lot new to transfers or something?

Being first choice and being giving a guarantee that you'll start every match are two different things. What if he has a dip in form, or the situation calls for a different set-up than one which accomodates him?

It may be a throw away statement, but I'd be stunned if he has been given some form of official guarantee to always start.

Beggars cant be choosers imo. If we want him, we need to swing it some way that he'll leave Barca & come to us. If we cant reassure him he'll get serious game time with us - then why would he leave Barca then? Sure thats the reason why he's leavin them in the first place!

Muppet alert:

I'd say the rumours are true about demanding to be first-choice/starter tbh in his contract, because thats whats gettin his release clause reduced to €18m from €90m or something, so its obviously a massive detail to him signing any possible contract with a new club..

More than that. He's a muppet king. His twitter feed is fantastically transfer orientated. He puts a rumour up as soon as he can "source" it regardless of likelihood. He also blocks a lot of people.

Click each of that links. Tanc doesn't have the best rep.
He doesn't work for Sky Italia, he provides news reports and gives the source, useful for people who're interested, can hardly hold it against him if it isn't all correct.

As for questions about whether he would do a Fabregas in a few years, I doubt it. For one thing if he did go back to Barca in a couple of years, that wouldn't be 'a Fabregas'. Cesc went to Arsenal at a very young age and was there for almost eight years. If Thiago stays with us for eight years, he'll be 30. So it's not the same. Letting teenage players go for a few years and buying them back seems to be a Barca tactic. I highly doubt letting a 22-year-old whose game already looks wonderfully mature go to one of the other top teams in the world to become a regular starter is something they would ever do if they had the choice. Plus unlike Fabregas or Jordi Alba, Thiago is not Catalan, or even (by birth) Spanish.

Secondly, I honestly can't see us not doing wonderful things with him in that midfield slot. Let's face it, with a broadly unsatisfactory mish-mash of performances from a mish-mash of players in that position last year, we comfortably won the Premier League and were unlucky not to beat Real Madrid and go through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Aside from our midfield worries, our first team and wider squad are both in excellent shape at the moment. (I don't buy in to this nonsense about our wings being weak - two incredible wingers had a poor season which is unlikely to repeat itself, and we've just signed the most exciting young English winger around. They're in good shape.) Add potentially the best young central midfielder in the world to that team, and great things are going to happen. And nothing keeps a player at a team like success and being integral to that success.

I think you guys are taking 'promised' far too literally. 'Minimum minutes clause'? United have never gone for that sort of thing, and I don't think a managerial change means we're going to start doing it now.

I don't think Moyes' would 'guarantee' Thiago a starting spot, but then he wouldn't have to, would he? Let's face it, Thiago is going to get a starting spot, and a guarantee-free conversation about what he can expect at United would make that very clear.

Aye, we don't make promises like that, that's for sure. I'm sure we do however have a very sensible conversation explaining our midfield options and how we see him as a very important acquisition going forward. It goes without saying that he'd be first choice with Carrick and eventually Cleverley , I'm sure he will also understand that we will rotate where nessacary. For fitness and form.

If it happens all the time, why is it being reported as something important this time?

The way it was reported was as if it was some form of official guarantee, which isn't the same as just telling him something to get him here. When was the last time you heard a prospective signing at United being given any guarantee about starting every game?

By the way, I'm suggesting that this is bullshit reporting, and he hasn't been given any guarantee.

He may well have been reassured that he'd be first choice and not just a squad player, but I'd be very surprised if we've made an official guarantee, written or otherwise, as that report seems to suggest.

I think a main reason for him leaving is to become the main star player in a big team, which is obviously a much more difficult task with Messi, Iniesta and Xavi and he probably feels even more overshadowed with the arrival of Neymar.

What agreement needs to be made with Barcelona? What talking needs to be done, if he has a release fee?

A lot of these reports contradict each other.

Will we be opening up a Rafinha Alcantara thread once this bad boy's been concluded? If it's half as much fun as this one, we don't even need a credible link to make a new thread.

Apparently according to Karl Heinz Rummenigge, with buy-out clauses there is also some difficulties with taxation. I posted in the twitter, but it isn't massively detailed.

For those doubting Hunter's pedigree, all we need to know is he is has good contacts at Barcelona and he is close to Thiago's family. Sometime ago Hunter disclosed information regarding his relationship to the family. For anything else he says not regarding Barca, he usually has to trust other people. Therefore to answer the credible question, only in relation to Barcelona. Thankfully, that is good news for us. Now for bed.

If you're still doubting this transfer, you've missed out on some obvious pieces. Technically it could still fall through but we'd be silly not seal the deal when we are the closest to signing him.

What if Isco wrote that on his ball and they're both on their way to the blue part of town? Would this place spontaneously combust?

I never go in the Transfer forum. I've no idea why, it's brilliant. You're all mental.

You're like the hive mind of a 15 year old social outcast who sat next to the fittest girl in school in Chemistry once and got a rush of adrenaline when she asked you for an answer and then smiled when you gave it to her. She doesn't love you. It's not going to go anywhere. Put the handwritten bloodstained scapel drawn Valentines cards away.

You're only going to get hurt.

A total meltdown yes. It has been discussed but I think with the tweets coming in today, it has eased our fears a bit.

Arghhhhh we have signed a top midfielder the world is going to end.

I have been waiting for this for five years.

I've been carrying my balls around in a wheelbarrow but it's coming out tonight.

Breath!
