Thiago Alcantara | Signed for Bayern Munich

He just seems a hybrid of them all, Iniesta, Xavi, Fabregas. He's not got blistering pace but his brain is the same as theirs, he's just on that wavelength. Technique wise he looks better than Fabregas but I would not take him over Fabregas though. Fabregas is a much more proven player and would slot into the PL again seamlessly.

His acceleration is quite good though, great burst of pace and skill to get away from his man - something that Xavi and Fabregas doesn't really have.

Its not about how good he is, or where he will fit, anymore.

I just really want us to sign this fecker.

Thiago is basically seen as their best youngster since Xavi/Iniesta, it's a massive deal for them if they do lose him, especially for such a small fee.

EDIT: Best Spanish youngster, before someone mentions Messi :)

Thiago is as Spanish as Messi, I believe. Both of them aren't actually Spanish, but became eligible to play for Spain owing to being South American and living in Spain as youngsters at Barca's academy. It's just when push came to shove, Thiago chose to represent Spain whereas Messi chose Argentina. He was right on the verge of being eligible for Spain too (can you imagine how even more terrifying they'd be in that case?).

Is he? I didn't realise that if so. I always thought Fabregas was one of their posterboys, and the one who they were so desperate to "bring home" or whatever. The fans certainly do seem cheesed off that Thiago may be leaving, but it's going to be difficult for any team to have 4 utterly world class midfielders and keep them all happy.

I think the Barca fans see his talent is potentially higher than Fabregas, he's really got everything this lad. Hence why I'm so skeptical

Yeah, it's like us losing Pogba but 100 times worse.

And then multiply it by another 3 as he's 3 years older than what Pogba was. And then multiply it by 65, as that's how many more league games he's played for them than he did for us. And then add on 7 as that's how's many league goals he's scored for them. And then multiply that number by 4 because that's how many letters are in the word cnut.

so yeah, Barca fans must be cheesed off with that one.

I find it very hard to believe that he'll leave Barcelona.

In all likelihood he'll end up being given assurances of more game time and end up staying.

I think Thiago is more popular with the Barca fans though isn't he?

I could imagine a lot of Barca fans being pissed off with Fabregas - he fecked off at a young age for more money for himself at Arsenal leaving Barca only with the youth compensation route to get anything back financially for the work they did developing him, and then when he returned he costs them something like €30 million (which was a good price given his quality, but I can imagine they'd be pissed off at having to pay anything to get their player back in the circumstances).

FCBarca has given us a lot of insight into Thiago and his progress from a Barca supporters view (his view at any rate) so based on that I wouldn't be surprised if the board get quite a bit of heat from the supporters if Thiago does go.

Don't underestimate DDG's pulling power. Agent Dave will assure him that United is the best thing since sliced bread.

What was the best thing before sliced bread?

Is sliced bread really that good? Have we not beaten it as an invention since?

Free internet porn was a greater invention.

Probably the best invention since DVD porn which was the best invention since VHS porn which was the best invention since audio porn which was the best discovery since prostitution.

This thread is awesome. It's basically got me super excited for a player I've only seen a clip from the U21 final from.

He's basically the BPITW already.

He became the best player in the world the moment we showed an interest.

I am even more excited for this lad than I was when we were after Sneidjer and I think I had either the 2nd or the 3rd highest post in the Sneidjer thread.

I like how we are doing this though. If he signs for us, the muppets show off their love for the player in this thread, if it doesn't go well they always have the defense of 'That was just fun and nonsense, we were never serious guvnor'.

Chelsea are contemplating an offer for Thiago Alcantara, ESPN has learned, although Manchester United remain in the lead for the playmaker’s signature.

The Stamford Bridge club’s interest comes after a sparkling Under-21 European Championship from the midfielder, who scored a hat-trick as he captained Spain to a 4-2 final win over Italy. Although Chelsea have made initial contact with Thiago’s representatives, United’s attempt to bring the player to the Premier League is far more advanced and it is understood they have been in repeated contact with both the player’s camp as well as Barcelona.
Thiago is said to be available for just €18 million due to a clause in his contract under which the figure dropped temporarily when he played less than 60% of Barca’s games last term. This opportunity, which has alerted a host of European clubs, runs out at the end of July when his price will return to €90 million.
Thiago himself repeatedly declined to talk about his future during the Under-21 Championship, but speculation only escalated after “see you in Manchester” was written on the player’s match ball from the final. Amateur sleuths in both the Spanish and English media quickly concluded the message must have been written by United goalkeeper David de Gea, and meant the two were sure to be playing together at Old Trafford next season.

One United source did tell ESPN that the club have been "quietly confident" of securing the player, but Chelsea’s interest has concerned them. Like the Premier League champions, the Blues are intent on significantly enhancing their midfield this summer.

Thiago’s first choice is understood to have always been linking up with Pep Guardiola again at Bayern Munich, but the Champions League winners have as of yet shown no real interest beyond mild enquiries.
Despite not wanting to talk about his future, the player did stress to Catalan radio station RAC1 on Wednesday that playing first-team football next term was important if he were to impress Spain’s senior boss Vicente del Bosque enough to be chosen for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

"I have always had patience," he said. "There are no more under-age teams left so now we are thinking about the senior side. To play a World Cup would be a dream, my biggest aspiration. I must play games with my club and show in the day-to-day action that I can be with the senior side."

The situation is quite embarrassing for Barcelona, who have come in for criticism in the Catalan media for allowing the situation to develop so far. A source from the club stressed to AS that coach Tito Vilanova, sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta and various board members had done all they could to try and convince Thiago to stay, but the issue was now out of their hands.
"We did everything," the source said. "The directors, Tito and Zubi all spoke with the player, to explain the evolution of the squad to him. He is a sensational player, among those we do not doubt, he has a contract and we hope he does not go."

I was never part of Sneijdergate, I was a small part of The Ozil brigade but I am most certainly on this love train.

And my record speaks for itself. Of all muppet transfers in recent years, the only ones I really put myself forward for we're Berbatov, Van Persie and Moura (who was close to signing for us).
