Oh for sure I'm not slagging it. It's fantastic for them. Was just commenting on their strategy.
Seriously fair fecks to them. FSG, their director and Klopp have turned them into a true football club again.

We aren't even remotely a football club. We are a business and the fans are their consumers. Nothing more. I don't see it ever changing as if it was going to change it would have been under Ole.
Their owners did feck all prior to Klopp as well, it's just that they hit gold with Klopp, some of their signings have exceeded expectations and world-class. They have some incredible luck with injuries and some games as well, though some come relentlessness.
If we had Klopp we would have won as well.

Top quality midfielders? I think that's a big stretch. For me they have good midfielders but only Thiago and possibly Fabinho are top quality.
Having two midfielders being top quality is more than 90% of other teams depth. Great signing. I really thought it wasn’t going to happen. In addition to his skills he puts the team on notice making the other players having no complacency in their attitude. It’s just what we needed

What has that got to do with anything in this thread...
I was joking mate as according to fans on here Ole can only sign young players in their young twenties.
I would have takenany of those here, sorry I upset you I’ve seen you’ve Had a rough time in the bale thread

I think they're winning the league easily again. Not by the margin they did last year but getting an elite CM during the pandemic for a tiny fee is pretty incredible.

Incorrect. It hasn't all been Klopp but of course he is a major reason.

They knew they couldn't compete financially so they brought in the correct people at board level.

Edwards is a major reason for their success along with their statician based scouting too.

Remember Klopp wanted Brandt not Salah. Edwards convinced him on Salah.

The fact they have so much less money than us shows how much better their owners run them. If Ed or the Glazers wanted to they too in these 8 years post Fergie could have hired sporting directors etc that know what they are doing.

The fact they don't show their incompetence knows no limits.

Your hyperbole was funny

It has merit. So far whenever we make top 4 we take the foot off the gas peddle as though that is good enough. Seems a moneycentric move than a football one no.

I just feel sorry for the manager. He didn't deserve this.

I totally agree, great signing for you.

I recall their support being very vocal in wanting Rodgers our for Klopp specifically, deserve credit for that imo. Sometimes the obvious decision is the best one.

You’re saying Manchester United are not a really football club mate, that was funny

Sure we want them to be but we are what ever the Glazers make us mate. Only us and West Brom are paying our divedens to our owners for example. And we pay out a hell of a lot.

It's not far fetched to say that the money comes first here. Sure if it didn't how would we be so rich yet so bad. It's not a case of being unlucky.

Surely now Klopp should be looking to build for 4 or 5 years on, with loads of players around the same age as this guy? The whole transfer policy has been for instant success, but no one calls them out on buying the league because they managed to do it on the cheap.

Much as we might hate to acknowledged it , they won the league through top level management , very shewed recruitment and ambitious owners. In other words by been a very well ran football club whose sole focus is on football and success. Something we once were.

The core of our success team had been together for 2-3 years before we started winning stuff...

Salah just turned 25 when we signed him, Mane and Oxlade-Chamberlain just turned 24, Firmino and Keita were 23, and Alisson was 25. The only players we've bought who were immediately world class were Van Dijk and now Thiago (and Salah but no one expected that much of a jump in his performances).

If anything we bought players with the objective of them establishing themselves as top class players in the next few years and the goal was to win after a few years, not at that very moment (2016-2018). Which is what effectively happened.

I think next season is his last

Sancho could be on the market next summer.

Who said you're skint. You must be prudent with money atm it seems and getting Thiago so cheap is great business given the circumstances.
It would be pretty hard for Liverpool to improve their starting 11 without signing a £100m player. Yet they've somehow done it for £25M.

My condolences on your username.
Thanks!
The username I wanted to initially use was Davie Fecking Moyes. That was the text I received from my brother informing me the that Utd had appointed him when we were hoping for one of Klopp, Pep, Mou etc. I probably should change it (although I have no idea if that is possible) and need to move on from that dark period!

It just goes to show how much a mgr means. Hard to say no to Klopp given the price. Conversely if SAF was here there would be no way Sancho would not be here given the financial clout united have. And that’s on Woodward.

My LFC-supporting brother is more worried by the prospect of losing Wijnaldum than excited by the idea of getting Thiago, for whatever that's worth.
What went wrong?

Dithering Dave... Fergie recommending Moyes set off a chain of events that significantly altered the trajectory of the club. Thiago was a no-brainer back then. Since then, I think the club is little nervous doing business with Bayern due bad injury experiences i.e. Hargreaves & Schweinsteiger. The school of thought appears to be if Bayern want to sell, then there could be more to it..

We missed out on plenty of players during Fergie's reign for one reason or another. See Hazard, for one. If SAF was here he might say that Sancho isn't worth the money.

This/.

Historically we have missed out on loads of players; the overreaction in here is down to our inactivity in this window thus far.

Players sign for other clubs all the time, we move.

Thiago said his goodbyes today, Flick just confirmed in the press conference for tomorrow's game.

it was Giggs

 You can't make up stuff like. Epic incompetence from both Giggs and Moyes. Giggs for deciding he "wasn't a United player" and Moyes for actually listening to him. I don't care that much given we now have Pogba and Bruno and Thiago is 29 years old, but that's some a high level of idiocity right there.
