Why aren’t you guys spending? I don’t get it.
Apparently, despite FSG's well reported ability to grow revenue streams, despite a net outlay of 22m a year on transfers (Houllier spent more than that in 2000), despite not signing anyone last year, despite having the seventh highest revenue in club football, despite winning the CL and then league title, despite regularly posting profits - the higher wages we're paying these days means we're struggling to break even somehow. Especially in these corona times which evidently require us to be far more prudent than anyone else.

It seems FSG are oddly more proficient at being smart on the footballing side than on the financial side these days.

Sounds like a load of rubbish, how can you not be breaking even? 30 mil for Thiago would be incredible for you guys and if someone else pinches him because of your dilly dallying then questions need to be asked.

The latest news is that there has been dialogue between United and Thiago but the Spaniards wage demands are too high.

Is he reliable journalist? Sounds consistent with the idea that Liverpool aren't bothering, because his wages would likely make him highest paid after Salah (which will piss off a few key players).

Smells a bit like glazernomics to me. They think they're so far ahead they don't need to spend right now. Perhaps their other business interests are struggling badly too so they don't want to lose the reserve cash in case it's needed elsewhere.

Your wage bill isn't even THAT bad is it? perhaps he's asking for a 4-5 year contract which is where most clubs these days don't like going passed 30.

Or simply put : You're owned by an investor group that puts profits first and everything else second.

I don't know about his reliability but some of the Norweigan caftards seem to think he's decent.

Exactly how high would his wage demands have to be to put Woody off? Maybe all this talk about him wanting the Prem is more just about padding his nest with one fat last paycheck. What with his injury record, this puts me off massively, seems very mercenary if true.

I think he might stay at Bayern and become a free agent with huge signing on fee next summer if his wages is the main concern

Not sure if true but I heard his wages are closer to 200k a week, but would need a Bayern fan to clarify!

Jan Aage Fjorfort swears by this guys credibility:
.

Can't stand Jan Aage because he's a drama queen but I don't think he's Indykaila useless either.

I think he's at somewhere around 220k right now, and his new contract which he refused to sign would have likely gotten him above 250k

Thanks. Big money, but I still maintain he'd be worth it if we have Pogba on the same. Thiago is comfortably a better player.

They are doing the same thing with the Red Sox, with a small difference, they gutted the team and have tried to get rid of all the big contracts they could or players that were going to require big new contracts. Their 28 man roster has a below average payroll and they have one of the worst roster in the league.

If he only wanted a modest rise on the £200k I wouldn’t imagine that would be enough to put Woody off, which was why I was saying it’s a concern. Pure speculation but, if he’s asking for £300k plus with his injury issues, that would be a massive no for me.

He's made 24 league appearances last season and 19 the year before. Not amazing but not terrible either - I reckon he'd be fine on a 3 year deal, and I would be surprised if any players looked at Thiago (among the best in the world in his position) and said "oh I deserve more because look what he's on".

Seventh highest in football apparently. Only real, Barcelona, the Manchester clubs, bayern and PSG pay more. 255m ultimo 2019, with a revenue in excess of 530m and growing. So not even a 50% wage to turnover ratio. If the curve keeps up for a few more years, we'll catch up to you guys on turnover.

Meanwhile the red Sox look likely to post record losses for the year.

That kind of goes with what was expected that Liverpool need to sell to buy Thiago, that might happen as soon as Koeman makes an offer for Wijnaldum. However if his wage demands are too high for United, I don't imagine Liverpool might fancy it either.

The 220k are Euros though.
So it would be 195k what he is currently getting

Would coincide with why it’s taking Liverpool such a slog to sign him too. The €30m part is most likely fine, it’s probably his requested salary holding things up.

Exactly what I was thinking. Maybe the reports in the press about him having already agreed terms etc with Liverpool have been incorrect.

It's a bit reductive as they've put in a lot of effort into optimising our football and transfer analysis and operations, to ensure that we work smarter to compete with clubs that are simply richer. Klopp obviously is the crowning achievement in that and basically the one that holds it all together. But he doesn't do his magic in a vacuum.

But when push comes to shove, yes - they will prioritise the bottom line it seems.

In that case he can stay at Bayern then. He's gonna do a u-turn and sign an extension no doubt upon realising no one is taking him

True, also it's not my money and he is a good player, I just can't help but think we'd be creating an issue for ourselves further down the line with a massive contract for an aging and injury prone player. Sanchez seemed like a good idea at the time. It was only afterwards we realised we'd bought a player for their name for an area we were already well stocked in.

Yeah I mean, Sanchez came on even bigger wages, and whilst he was a very good player even at the time it's not like he'd won multiple titles and been the best outfield player on the pitch in the Champions League final!

Respect to United if they are trying to sign him

Thiago wouldn't come to sit on the bench and Donny van de Beek isn't coming to sit on the bench. Pogba and Bruno are obvious starters. What on earth is Ole planning?

........Rashford..............Martial..........
....................B.Fernandes..................
.........Pogba...............van de Beek....
.......................Thiago.........................

Clearly a new version of 3 4 3

Rashford..............Martial.......... Sancho

....And a really weird defence......

Something doesnt add up.

Move Bruno a bit to the right, push VDB to the 10 and have Pogba and Thiago as the double pivot is my guess

2 defenders, win every game 10-7, Bruno scoring 4 penalties per game on the way to winning the treble.

Someone can sit on the bench? I mean its allowed...

We don't need to sell to buy him, because we would never offer him such high wages anyway and feck up our entire structure.

It was reported by Romano that we already agreed personal details (if I'm not mistaken), and he can be relied upon. So it's more likely that the "Utd can't afford his wages" report is false imo.

Ha I expect Chelsea to be all over this

Is there any chance he could go back to Barca?
Doubtful. They’ve signed Pjanic who basically plays the same sort of role (albeit less convincingly). Then again, with Messi out, they’ll need better players everywhere.

Yeah I think wages are not an issue for you guys cause he wants to play for you. Thiago has tried his luck at a massive pay deal to come to United over Liverpool imo.

Why aren’t you guys spending? I don’t get it.
No idea, they don’t really have the pandemic excuse given what other clubs are doing, yeah it’s affected everyone and nobody is asking for a Chelsea summer but we can’t seem to find any money anywhere. Selling to buy for a club with our capital worth shouldn’t be happening. Let alone for one of the best midfielders in the world.

Firt of no attack on his skill or supposed impact but yeah, his request to leave Bayern makes no real sense other than sporting challenge or money.
A combo of both is to stay at Bayern or get acfair upgrade on in EPL. Bayern are happy and want him to stay for bigger money and love him. Obviously rumors and all but smell like he is after Sanchez money more and more. In that case there are other voids to stuff that need good stuffing and would give us an equal/needed or well needed boost like; quality RW? Super fast LCB to move our line comfortably 15-20m up when pressing? Versatile quality sub upfront on cheap? Classic DM?

A player that need (more) top money to swing his mind with 0 ties to the club makes this transfer done from a position of desperation and less so ration. Why not City? There he at least have many natural ties in the backroom hierarchy and Pep. They can pay, and a if not, what happened to the 'nobody says no to a WC player' argument and why is that not valid for them all of a sudden?

Some concerns and some red flags here for sure.

This seems likely to me, yeah. In the mould of "I'd take €200k at Liverpool but I'll glady play for United too if you pay me €300k", but of course not sure if players actually think that way.

I think VDB will expect to fight for his place. He's 23, unproven in a big league and also unproven for his country (has he even got any caps yet?)
