Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I got it but haven't done it. Have put in wait-list Triss' final quest too. Read that when I do either of those quests, I have to decide for one of them or lose both.

...

Anyway, how boring it is to do these repetitive quests and then get 1XP in the end. I guess that I need to use some guide to know which quests I should skip (not interesting plus no XP from them).

If you're on PC there is a mod so you get full xp.

Going by lore, Triss is the manipulative one. Takes advantage of Geralt and his memory loss. Yen would be the canon choice if there was one.
If you want to go further with lore from the books, Triss is still extremely political, and her main focus is and will always be the Lodge of Sorceresses. In the books she's basically very horny for Geralt but their relationship is nothing more than a fling. Near the end she's very willing to have the Lodge use Ciri for their means whilst Yennefer has pretty much abandoned the Lodge and cares only about Geralt and Ciri.

The Last Wish was a great quest, pretty emotional and I really enjoyed it. Yen is basically the life-long sweetheart that turns into your wife meanwhile Triss is the drunk girl on a night out in uni. In my opinion choosing between them is really not that difficult.

Obviously that Yen is the canon choice, there is a big story behind her and Geralt.

I like Triss more, but it seems that the game pushes the player to go for Yen. Personally, I would have preferred Triss, but Geralt prefers Yen.

@RedSky - I'm 100% the plan was to bonk a lot more female characters in the game - the Witcher 1 and 2 gave you free roam to shag like 10+ different women in each game. This one came into complications though. CDPR had become so big at this point and the game went from a PC exclusive to all consoles, I think Feminist Frequency or something like that had launched an attack before the game came out on the depiction on women (despite Ciri being the strongest and most important character, and Yen, and Triss, Keira, Cerys...)

There was also the justification given that this game was a lot driven with the narrative of Geralt trying to find his daughter and save the world. Less time for shagging, and all that. I'm sure I remember it being said somewhere that they filmed an excessive number of 'sexual motion capture scenes' but the game really didn't end up with much.

I'm sure it was all a better to be safe than sorry approach, because as you say: there's the twins, there's Tomira the herbologist early in the game, even Anarietta in the DLC. Must be a few more I can't remember.

The one with the huge arse? Damn shame.

Can you shag the twins? Feck, I didn't know that, just beat one of them during the training.

Anyway, having trouble at work meant that I had to spend the entire day playing this.

Chose Yen in the end. There is too much story between her and Geralt to make any other decision. It was heartbreaking not saying to Triss to stay with Geralt, but it was the correct choice.

Vikings have a Queen.

Assisted Dijsktra (I am sure his name is inspired from Edsger Dijsktra who was one of the most famous computer scientists of all time), Vernan Roche to find that old pal from the first game. For the good of the world (And Triss and Yen) Radomir has to die.

I guess tomorrow have to continue with the main story. Around 40 hours so far, and I think that I am well after half of the game (also I am in level 22, should have been higher if CD Red didn't decide to give me 1XP for some quests).

My PS Plus expired on Boxing Day, but I never bothered to renew it because I was playing this and obviously didn't need the network. I was progressing nicely during the Xmas holidays and got myself up to around level 10 and completed a lot of little side quests too. Anyway, yesterday I replaced and upgraded the hard drive in the PS4, popped in the disc and reinstalled this game, excited to pick up where I left off. However, since I didn't have an active PS Plus membership whilst I had been playing over the past month or two, my save is not on the cloud. I'm at least 10 hours back and I've lost the motivation to do it all again.

:(

Just before the match started, I found her. Such an amazing scene.

At what stage of the game I am? Surely I am near the climax of the game (also, I am level 25, after 40 hours of game played).

I'm not telling. I will say I clocked well over 100 hours, though that's with checking everything out as much as I could AND dlc.

As for the xp thing you were saying earlier, there's no way around it without mods I'm afraid. It's one of those really unbalanced mechanics that we shouldn't really talk about :nervous:

I think that mine will be much shorter than that. I am playing in normal difficulty, which probably means less deaths so shorter gameplay. Also, I am not going for all ? signs, neither I am doing anymore the gray quests. In fact, I don't know if I should even bother anymore for the repetitive (go there, find the prints using the witcher sense, follow the trail, kill the monster) witcher contracts considering that I am feeling already slightly overleveled.

The main quest seems the best part of the game to me.

I know your exact feelings mate, believe me.

Besides, in my defence, I just have such a way of having to do everything in games, even if they start to bore me. My gf said it best to me the other day whilst playing RE7 and doing the stuff I've been doing on that (check out the thread) on VR: "you are such a 90's gamer!"

Some of these have amazing storylines. At least have a look at the list of the best quests and check if you have done them all. And make sure you have been on every island on Skellige!

BTW, you are halfway though the story I believe, depending on how you have played it, maybe 2/3's

The game has become very good now.

Vesemir :(

Also met the Emperor with Ciri.

Voiced by the awesome Charles Dance. Nerded out when I found Tywin Lannister was the Emperor.

Also, I can't believe you didn't mention the drunk scene with Geralt, Lambert and Eskel.

Remember getting excited in this thread after the trailer when Charles Dance was the narrator.

Yep, the scene with those three was awesome. Lambert is great, his rants with Geralt are really beautiful.

About the battle:

Triss was awesome there. She nuked the shit out of them. However, I didn't like how getting allies didn't have any effect on the game, and they were hardly there. Also what was the point on having to go to the Emperor for help, when whatever you chose as dialogue option, the outcome was the same. The entire asking allies for favor seemed very forced to me and didn't have any impact on the game.

Ciri going full Phoenix was great to see though.

If you mean Kaer Morhen, the emperor doesn't have any influence on that one. That will come later. Still, for Kaer Morhen, your can lose quite a lot of allies before in the story. And if some of those do not come, others might die in that fight as well.

For Kaer Morhan, I asked Emperor for help, he agreed to send me a brigade under that general of him, Geralt disagreed. The entire visit was pointless considering that it was the only possible outcome. Likely they planned to send something but then cut that part, with the dialogue and the quest remaining.

I recruited that Viking with whom I killed the giant (his sister is the queen), got that awesome sword from his father, got Roche and that chick, the druid Viking and Zoltan. Before, I had sent the assassin of Kings and Keira there too. Dijkstra didn't come.

Who might die in the battle if I had not recruited anyone and had gone directly to get Ciri?

Wait, Radovid is dead in your story right? Thought you said so.

Anyway, for example, Lambert will likely die if you don't bring Keira. There's probably more, but that's the one I know of because it happened to a friend of mine who killed her at the tower[/spoilers]

No, Radovid is still not dead. I decided to help Djisktra and Roche to kill him and did their mission to find that guy from the first game. Now in the second act, I am going to meet them again and assist on Radovid's killing (I have a strong dislike for him).

Googled a bit and saw that Lambert might die if Keira is not there, although you can save him if you hurry up there. Other than that, there are no other changed in the outcome, but if you bring allies, the entire mission is more simpler.

Aaand, finished it. A very nice climax.

Ciri became Empress. I think that it was the only ending which would have made the world a better place, though Ciri would have liked to become a Witcher instead.

A very good game, though still think that nothing touches Dragon Age: Origins for this type of games (Western RPG with medieval setting). Still, the Witcher 3 came closer than probably any other game I've played. And I think it has the best soundtracks in video gaming.

On the other side, I found the Witcher contracts and the secondary quests (bar those of characters, with the best ones being Yen's, Triss' and Radovid) very very boring. The first couple were interesting but then it became too repetitive. So, after a while stopped doing them.

Should I play the DLCs? I've purchased GOTY so them are there, but do they offer anything more interesting then go in X, kill monster Y, get back and get the reward. I mean, do they have an interesting story?

Btw, I finished the main game in 45 hours and was level 35 when I did so.

DLC story lines are easily worth it. It's a no brainer. On another note, 45 hours fecking hell that's quick!

You've just ploughed through it, tbf. I'm 80+ hours in and level 22. But I love all the side quests, the gwent, the aimless wandering round the beautiful countryside, and the hunting down all the places of interest.

You're probably playing on one of the two top difficulties. I played it on normal (like any other game I've ever played).

In addition, I don't find much interesting doing the same side quest all over again. Especially considering that the main story was much more beautiful and gives a ton of XP so you don't need to do grinding (and if you do, you get very overlevelled for the main story quests). I also didn't waste time in gwent, though I did the boxing and horse racing quests.

Btw, I finished Skyrim in 30 hours and was finding it quite boring on the last 10 hours or so. No idea how people managed to get hundreds of hours from that game.

I hated that ending, not because it was poorly done or anything. Just very bittersweet.

It helps the world but Ciri doesn't want it and neither does Geralt. Thankfully I got the other one.

DLC is well worth it. Hearts of Stone is another 5-10 hours of quality content and Blood & Wine is basically another game.

In a world that was always fighting, a Ciri as Empress of the most powerful state would be a great thing. She would likely be the best empress in so many generations. In addition, she would have been a queen anyway, if Geralt didn't activate the Law of Surprise when he saved Dudu (later to become the Emperor). And I think that she would be safer as the most powerful person in the world, then fighting monsters each day.

I know that she didn't like it that much - and neither did Geralt - but everyone seems to dislike witchers, they are almost finished and well, it is a heck of a job going always after monsters. She could do better than that.

Anyway, she survived the battle, and that is all that matters. If she wants, she can abdicate. If not, she can rule wisely and meet Geralt and Yen whenever she wants.

So, we are talking for another 20+ hours with the two DLCs? Which is good, I still want to stay in that world although not sure how much I would care about the small things after just saving the world and Geralt's 'daughter'.

Just watched Witcher ending, and yep, that is the equivalent of the happy ending of this game, with Empress ending being the bittersweet one.

Never going to watch the third ending.

Not actually a spoiler as it's book material so way before the games, but you mean Duny instead of Dudu, which would've made for a very weird story. I don't like the Ciri empress ending for the simple reason Ciri going back to her father is messed up. He wanted to marry her ffs.

The stories and characters will keep you interested even if the DLCs don't have the huge consequences of the main plot. Hearts of Stone has a great antagonist and a really interesting plot. Blood & Wine, while the story wouldn't be as strong Hearts of Stone, it's still pretty good and it has a huge, beautiful world (two, actually). Some great comedy in B&W too.

Blood an Wine is pretty lighthearted, which can be refreshing. Also it's only time you are seeing a not war torn, southern world. It's like having a holiday in Tuscany. Just that you will slay a monster occasionally.

Just finished the ghost brother quest. With some Shanishag in the end, of course.

One of the best and funniest quests I have ever played, in any game. It was so refreshing (bar the chasing the pigs part which made my scream after a few minutes of not being able to put there the last pig).

On a side note, why does every woman in the game wears heels?

High heels accentuate the female form. Suppose CDPR thought heels = hotter.

For some reason, I remembered the Bloody Baron last night, man, this game took something out of my heart.

I just can't even start it again, the Baron's suicide really got to me. :(

I've had the Baron waiting near Crookbag Bog for about 5 weeks now, but I just can't be arsed helping him out currently...I might now I know it ends up with him topping himself, the ploughin' cnut...

Not necessarily. He could be saved, but then something bad happens for some other people. It was a lose-lose scenario. Anyway, I saved the baron. He helped Ciri so he had my help.

...

Started reading the books. Being translations I wasn't expecting much, but it looks good so far. Still at the beginning, and there are two very familiar characters from the first game.
