Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I actually found him easy, but the clone ghosts of the guy who's name I forget were a nightmare. I dunno how many attempts it took me.
Ah yeah, especially at the end when like three of the projections come at you. Feck that.

Im getting quite a few glitches with the downloaded version of the game first its walking on air which was quite funny then going first person and being able to do nothing and now its non stop jumping.

I managed to get them all 1 on 1 and it was still a nightmare. Then when I eventually did beat them I somehow made it look like a piece of piss, I beat the crap out of them all and barely took a hit. I think the game just felt sorry for me or something.

I had the hardest time with the fecking wraith in the painting. The first time she started healing from a painting I was sure I had to destroy them as soon as possible, but for some reason it seemed like I couldn't hit it so I figured that wasn't it. She kept coming back at me with full health over and over again. After 15 minutes and burning through all of my healing items I was close to rage quitting and looked it up. Turned out you actually could hit the paintings. Not my greatest moment.

Started playing this - killed my first griffin...so very early days!

Started to feel myself getting sucked into this and the world...definitely going to put some more time into it.

Finished it last night

Ciri became a witcher and seeing as Geralt shagged both Triss and Yen he ends up by himself, thought the threesome ruse was quite funny.

Say goodbye to your kids and wife, for they will never see you anymore.

Any tips are far as gear goes early on? I just had to spend like 100 gold coins getting stuff fixed. So annoying.

When I played I just scrambled whatever gear I could get and equipped it if it had a higher armour rating. I didn't worry too much about the weight of the armour early on, but if you have invested in the cat school or griffin school, then ideally you would try and stick to light armour or medium armour. But if you are looking for something specific, I found some good medium armour in Lindenvale atop a building, up a ladder. Don't know if it is the same every play through but you never know.

I found silver swords hard to come by, but if you can tackle some of the witcher contracts, then you can bag yourself a good one. Unfortunately they are quite difficult to begin with.

As you get further, you will definitely want to get hold of proper witcher armour as it is naturally stronger and you get good abilities with it as well.

Cheers for that. Think i'm just going to play it and go with the flow. The game is far too overwhelming to overthink and go exploring for specific items.

I've spent 2 hours this evening on a bloody side quest! There is so much detail to this game it is unreal. Velen alone is like it's own game, I dread to think what the other maps are like.

One thing I will say is that there doesn't seem to be any randomness like in Skyrim. Maybe i'm just rushing from one destination to another a little too much?

Yeah best way is to just go with the flow.

The side quests in velen are quite hard to start with so its usually best to just invest a bit of time into the main quest to start with. You will find that you will level up REALLY quickly this way and the rest of the game will start to open up.

Eventually!!!

Captain GTA is evolving into Commander Witcher!

I've made an error here.

I'm doing the boss fight in Wandering in the Dark. It's a long ass quest and I'm not very... Food efficient, so I get to the boss to discover I only have 3 bits of food left. I can't make a Swallow potion for more vitality and the bastard keeps hitting me with his axe. I'm dead before I even get him past half health.

I'm completely stuck here. Is there a way I can get more food or something?

Check the auto saves to see how long before the fight it is, also use aard and dodge

If you can play with a bit of discipline that fight can be made to be very boring but an easy win. Because Kiera distracts him and he moves so slowly, you can hit him with igni from a safe distance while whittling down his health. Its a cheap tactic but apart from dealing with the hounds now and then it is an effective strategy.

Food wise, unless the hounds drop raw meat, then you can are going to have to do without. I don't think there is any food in the cave.

Are you using Quen often enough during this battle? If you're struggling, don't attack him without Quen equipped. Attack once and back away. Refill your Quen if necessary before attacking again. Igni is helpful as well, especially against the hounds. If I remember that area correctly, you have room enough to keep some distance from your enemies, so keep rolling away if you're not in control of the situation anymore. Fight patiently.

Fighting defensively is key against the harder enemies in The Witcher 3 and Quen is your most potent defensive tool. Use it often (and invest a lot of points in it, it's arguably the most important ability in the game).

Thanks you three. I managed to do it eventually by just not going anywhere near without Quen equipped. I'd never even used that sign before but it's so useful (I'd always just used aard) that I think my next points will be going straight into it.

A fully leveled Quen is almost cheating, you'll be able to stand in the middle of a battle and let it heal you using its alternative mode, while at the same time dealing damage back to attackers.

Game becomes a peice of piss once you start using Quen all the time. Like you though, it took me almost half the game to realise this.

Swallow and tawny owl should be priority. Get a brewing.

Yeah, just don't run out of stamina in the meantime  it's OP as feck though, no doubt.

Same here - replayed some Heart of Stone quests yesterday... the whole Scenes from a Marraige/ Von Everich mansion bit was so well done.
Hearts of Stone is brilliant.

Supposedly it's going to be June, I think i'll definitely have to replay the main game again before that. Try it on Death March this time.

Finished it. 10/10 and one of the best games of all time but it needed some
stuff once the game ended, felt rushed and abrupt. Reaction dialogue etc.
. Annoying we need to wait for a couple of years now for CD projects next game.

Not sure whether to get Hearts of Stone right now or wait until Blood and Wine is out and play both at the same time.

Get it now. They're unrelated. Expansion pass is cheap, too.

Hearts of Stone showed how good CDPR are at writing characters. I detested Von Everich, not because he was a badly written character but because he was so well written that he could be a total prick and yet still well written.

I've been trying to play through it again on NG+ death march, but I enjoyed it so much that I remember nearly all of it like I played it yesterday so it's been a bit of a slog.

So which should I get... Dragons Age Inquisition or this? I really like the DA Lore (despite #2 being dreadful) but i've heard such good things about Witcher despite never playing any of them before.

To me, it's a no contest. Played through both multiple times and The Witcher 3 is infinitely better in every regard.

yeah I think I'll just buy it now

If you haven't bought it yet, there is version that can be bought from stores or the net that comes with physical gwent cards. You might not be gwent person but they are a nice collectible alongside the expansion.

Both are good but Witcher is 10/10 while DA 8/10.

If you plan on playing both then I would go with DA first as then the lowering in quality in areas wont be noticed. There's quite a lot of good lore stuff in 3 so as a fan of the series you will enjoy it a lot. I think it's the most lore heavy of the 3 so far. You should definitely buy the Tresspasser DLC too as it provides much needed closure to the game and gives a bridge on the direction in which 4 will go.

I think that was limited edition. Can't find it on any stores online.
