Television The Wire

Yeah Bodie and McNulty liked each other obviously. McNulty not only felt guilty for getting Bodie killed, but I think what Bodie said about Marlo and "his kind" in this clip ultimately convinced McNulty to get back in the game:

I wouldn't buy that because Bodie was a nasty piece of work.
He wasn't really. He was just living in a different world. He was a smart guy and was relatively respectful towards the police, and despite disagreeing with their methods he seemed to understand the reasons.

I agree with Grinner. As much as there's no black and white in the Wire, he murdered Wallace in cold blood to move up the ranks. That's unforgivable. He lives in a fecked up world but that doesn't change the fact he's a fecked up person.

Wallace was always going to get got. Once Stringer gave the orders, Bodie saying no would have likely resigned him to staying in the pit. It's harsh, but you could see why he was willing to do it.

He was in numerous shoot-outs too and would have killed anyone he was ordered to. There were other far more sympathetic characters.

It's a shame they didn't replace Barksdale and Stringer with a decent villain. Marlow is just too laid-back and quietly psychotic. He finally got to be animated about summat when he was in jail.

Sure there were. But we also saw in Season 4 how there are kids in harsh neighborhoods who, through external pressures, wind up getting into the game. Cutty would have seem far less sympathetic to us too, had we seen how he was back in the day rather than his ultimately repentant future version.

Worst thing about The Wire was McNulty and his fat partner, unbearable cnuts. The rest of them were good. I just could never those two.

The Bunk?

Going to watch this soon. Does it take a while to get going or is it straight away brilliant ?
I really struggled with the first 3 episodes, really couldn't get into it. I then didn't really like the second season but I've just finished rewatching it and it's brilliant. Even if you're struggling with it it's worth pursuing, best show ever for me.

Thanks.

Nearly finished with The Sopranos and that took we a bit of time to get into and then it just clicked. I image this might be the same.

Fat cnut indeed. Much prefered Herc, Kima and co.
Love those other too, but damn, how can you not like McNulty? That's like not liking me. He's such a great guy.

I've seen this show start-to-finish about four times. Thinking about watching it over again.

Prepare to find everything else you ever watch underwhelming.

I've just finished season 1. I had a mare and was stuck on episode 9 for a couple of weeks. I smashed my beautiful new Acer laptop a while ago and am waiting for the insurance to come through. I've been using a crappy tablet/laptop hybrid and it only has about 16gig spare and it has no Ethernet socket so it can only work on WiFi and it's not quick enough to stream without problems.

Luckily The Wire is now available on Sky Box Sets On Demand so I just deleted everything I have (except The Sting and Hooper) and have downloaded the lot. I want to close the pub early this afternoon to go and crack on with it.

I loved Bunk! Wire wouldnt be the same without him.
Remember the episode when he picked up a lady in a bar and ended up crying in her bathroom, McNulty needed to get him out.

I do miss it now that I've finished the binge. I saw that there are some documentaries on it...are they any good?
The House we Live in is very good. Not really a documentary on The Wire but more on America's drug problem. The director of the wire, David Simon talks in it. Well worth a watch.

I love the Bunk. Hard to say who my favourite character is but for comic relief, he has to be #1.

Know what the plural of pussy is? Pussayyyy. Jimmy taught me that. Yeah they teach that fancy-ass Latin at them Catholic schools, they do.

With Bubbles not far behind of course.
