Television The Wire

Shiiiiiiyet, I have no recollection of them in it!

Lester is a priest. It's a very brief cameo. HBO always seem to have the same actors popping up on their other shows.

Also the Walking Dead seems to be the graveyard for ex Wire actors.

If you're black and in the walking dead, you were probably in the wire.

Cutty has been in It's Always Sunny a couple of times. Tiny part though.

Is Marlo, Avon or Presbo in anything? What about the kids (Michael & Dookie)?

Avon was in a TI rap video, also seen him on Justified. Michael has a rap album and acted in 90210.

Avon? Was he a proper actor?

Chris was awful in the latest season of 24. Which made me think how great it would be to see Snoop in another show.

Avon was in a single episode of House, actually, I'd forgotten about that, he played a SWAT team commander.

Just like Justified I stopped watching this for some reason. Series 3 I think I was up to. I really enjoyed the first two series and I think there are so many great characters. I was mid way through season 3 (Back Burners) and like Justified I really want to get back into this and finish it.

It's the best TV series I have ever seen alongside The Sopranos. You're doing yourself a great disservice by not watching it through. Season 4 is probably the best as well.

I've heard that, about season 4 being the best. I'll probably watch the remainder when I'm done with uni in a month or so.

I like it but struggle to see how it will beat True Detective/Mad Men for me. It will have to be good!

I also love True Detective and Mad Men

The Sopranos
The Wire
Mad Men
True Detective
Breaking Bad

That's my list so far :p

What's suprising is that so few of the actors have gone onto anything other than shitty TV shows.

Idris Elba is doing well and Omar was in Boardwalk Empire but thats about it. I think McNulty was in a really shit film with the pisshead from Friday Night Lights.

Dominic West was in a tv series called the affair recently which is meant to be really good and Bubbles has popped up in Bobs Burgers a couple of times but only in really small parts.

My top 5 would be similar but would include The Thick Of It instead of BB. Have never seen The Sopranos so cannot comment on that, although I do plan to watch it.

Edit: I'll get probably get flamed but I'd be tempted to include stuff like Modern Family/Arrseted Development also.

I haven't seen the Thick of it. Man the sopranos is absolutely amazing. Perhaps I am biased towards it because it was the second show I have watched in my life (after 24). I used to sneak downstairs as a 12 year old just to watch reruns of the sopranos at 2am. It was a strange time in my life I guess.

Definitely watch The Thick Of It, it's just truly amazing . Pretty sure most will back me on that.

Yeah I've always been interested in The Sopranos but never actually sat down and watched it. I was the same with Mad Men for a while until I invested the time and watched it and obviously loved it.

Avon was in Dredd. He worked for Lena Heady, and he was Karl Urban's prisoner.

Dominic West was acclaimed for playing Fred West on UK TV not too long ago. Looking at his IMDB he is playing Ernest Hemmingway in a film called 'Genius' alongside some big Hollywood hitters.

See Mad Men for me was just really boring, Granted iv only watched the first 5 episodes though. Should I stick with it?

Carver is fkin terrible in The Walking Dead. His acting has actually regressed if anything.

I actually thought the writing and motivations for his character are just shit, not sure what a better actor could do with that part.

Cutty has been in It's Always Sunny a couple of times. Tiny part though.

I love the scenes where they are trying to balance the ratio of white people to black people in their bar by inviting Cutty and his mates, and being horrified at them being the wrong type of black people.

As some already pointed out, Lester was a priest in it, not a big role. The guy who played Vondas was in at least 1 or 2 episodes of True Detective as Rust and Marty's major.

Major Rawls also makes an appearance in House of Cards at one point, for anyone who's seen that show.

All sorts really, I don't typecast myself to particular types, My favorites are Comedy and Action though if that has any bearing :D
I don't know then! I love Mad Men, think it's the best show on TV, but it doesn't really focus on plot/ action/ drama as much as shows you're probably used to. It's very literary, mostly focused on character development, asking deep questions about the human psyche and vaguely answering them over time. If you can get over the lack of a story in the first season, and find yourself interested in the characters, setting etc, then you'll love it. But probably not worth persevering if you get to the end of season one and don't think it's for you.

Ok cool well i'll watch the rest of the season and then see if I feel the same. It's strange because one of my favorite movies is Lost in Translation and what makes that so unique (IMO) is that the scenery, character development and emotion are fantastic, So Mad Men would be ideal normally.

I thought Mad Men was alright at the beginning but I didnt love it. I liked it well enough to persevere and over time it has grown on me more. I still dont love it but it got better over time, I dont know if that is to do with the quality of the show itself or it taking me time to care about the characters, I suspect its more the latter.

Im surprised by that, not to derail this thread, but Shield is different from Wire. Probably more happens per episode in terms of action and its gets right into the story and tone with the ending of the first episode.

To be fair I'm not far into Shield and The Wire took quite a while to get me hooked. Most shows do for me. Perhaps Shield will do the same.
Just finished The Shield. It got better and better as it went on. There was a little patch in the middle that felt a little like they were milking the cash cow, but other than that it proved to be a great show. Glad I stuck with it. I found the ending pretty emotional and TV shows/film don't normally pull on my heartstrings.
I expected Shane to blow his brains out as everything was closing in on him, but I didn't see it coming that he would take Mara and Jackson with him. That combined with Vic selling out Ronnie was a great ending.
That said, The Wire is still a level above. Breaking Bad is the only show that's ever got close to it for me.

Im pretty sure the Shane thing happened around the time of the Benoit tragedy too

Glad you stuck with it. I agree Wire is a level above, but for me Wire is the GOAT and nothing will touch it overall.

D was in the first series of Homicide Life On The Street back in the 90s, believe it or not. He must have been about 14 at the time.

Finally finished watching this. Superb show and squeezes in ahead of Breaking bad as the best show ever.

Season 2 remained my favourite though. The whole plot about the union, shady business, docks was brilliantly done. The scene where Ziggy speaks to his dad while in jail is probably one of best scenes ever.

Top top show. Planning to start watching all over again!

Most people I know who have watched the show (me included) only really loved Season 2 on the second viewing of the show, interesting that you did on the first go. Agree on the scene with Ziggy and Frank though, brilliant television. Didn't think I could ever feel bad for Ziggy, but I did when he said that his dad's blood doesn't flow in him.

Carcetti has done alright for himself. He was in teh Dark Knight and is in GoT.
