Television The Wire

So I'm guessing Bubz is everyones favourite character, yeah? I love that dude.

I like 'natural po-lice', Bunk and Lester.

Watched season 2 again lately, it's moving up in my list of favorite seasons, now inching ahead of 1 and 5.

Security man wants to live in a world where everybody plays by the rules, not one where guys like Marlo run around doing as they please.

"F*ck Marlo, man. F*ck him. And anybody that think it's alright to do people this way. You hear me? F*ck all y'all motherf*ckers."

Love big Broadus

Can anyone explain this scene? It stuck out when I watched it but tbh I don't really understand Marlo's point.

I think the literal meaning is basically what @2cents says. I see the scene as a concise portrayal of the 'new-school' gangsters. There was no need in Marlo doing what he did, he's just a cold hearted young man who has no appreciation for any sort of law, whilst the 'one way' represents the respect the old players like Prop Joe, Avon and even Stringer hold. That's why he doesn't give a shit about their co-op. He doesn't think logically, or for business, or ethically. The final shot with Chris too - he isn't a kingpin like String, he's a cold blooded killer. And not the type that does what he does for some sense of appreciation and family like Weebey, he's all kinds of crazy.

My take on it, anyway.

There's only two series I've ever felt worthy of buying on BluRay, Band of Brothers & Game of Thrones. I've found another. Roll on season 2. This is so damn good that it exceeded my already huge expectations.

Haven't looked at it yet, but apparently it's worth a watch: the cast of The Wire reunites.

It may be hard to believe at this point, but it gets better. Much better. Enjoy mate!

You may think season 2 isn't as good as season 1, I thought that too originally, but you'll come to realise it's actually better. Just be prepared for the focus to change.

Kinda ruins it if people tell you which emotions and opinions you're supposed to have at every juncture!

agreed, I appreciated season two a lot more upon further viewings and now that it's in high def it's even more amazing.
It's almost like you have to watch it multiple times

On rewatch i preferred 3 over 4. It was more entertaining i felt. What a show though, easily the best of all time.

Season 4 of the wire was the best season of any TV show IMO.
The authenticity of that season, and in that show in general is off the charts.

I had the same opinion until i re-watched it. Maybe it lacked the emotional punch it did first time round that plays a big role in season 4.

4 was definitely the most emotive watching it first time round. Have any other shows produced anything like Randy and Dukie's plot-lines over that year?

Perhaps you are right, I am halfway through the hd remaster of season 3 and looking forward to seeing how they hold up.

I am trying to hold off for as long as possible so that when i watch it again it is less fresh in my mind. I remember being actually depressed when i finished it for the first time knowing that i wouldn't watch anything as good as it ever again and i include films in that.

I am rushing through watching them now so that when the official blu Rays come out Around summertime I can watch them all over again in full 1080p :)

Just got the girlfriend watching this, looking forward to another chance to watch.

Its funny, my brother really didnt like season 2 whilst i really did.

Finally got around to watching this. Through the first season and must say I'm a little underwhelmed.

It's a good show with some excellent writing but unfortunately I can't see where all this GOTY hype stems from. Don't see what's so extraordinary about it. Maybe it was different back when it first aired when there weren't so many other equally well-written and well-acted shows around.

Does it become better and better (I did grow into it over the course of the season after finding it painfully boring for four or five episodes), or is this the best it's got? Don't really feel an urge to jump into season two right now.

No, it definitely gets better. What I'd say about The Wire is that it's definitely something that should be considered as a whole rather than just season by season (even though everyone, myself included, is going to have his/her favourite season). The overarching plots, the character development, the resolutions you get throughout the show, the amount of detail and care for every single aspect of the story, is unrivalled in any other show for me, and it's once you have the full picture and see the range and the depth of the show as a whole that you can truly appreciate the genius of it.

A lot of people find it 'boring' at first, it's a slow burner. It doesn't necessarily get faster, but it engages you in a way no other show does and it becomes addictive because of that. I'd definitely recommend to at least get through season 2 which you may not enjoy that much on first viewing (it's a recurring thing among The Wire viewers) and to push through season 3. If by episode 4-5-6 of season 3 you're still not that convinced, maybe you could give up. But I very strongly doubt you will.

Wait till the remastered version comes out on blu ray.

Maybe it was different back when it first aired when there weren't so many other equally well-written and well-acted shows around.

It was on at exactly the same time as The Sopranos and The West Wing. In fact it started several years after them. It was also notoriously a far bigger success after it ended than during it's run (i.e. During the time of Breaking Bad)

So, no.

I didn't really either. Possibly my worst season out of the five even (I actually quite liked season 5). I want to watch the whole show again as I watched it whilst I was studying for my University exams. This show deserved my full concentration.

Has anyone ever played L.A Noire? .. because it just dawned onto me how similar it is to The Wire. Especially the promising homicide detective getting demoted and what not.
