Television The Wheel of Time | Thread for the TV show - book nerds shoo

I can’t get past the fact Harvey Price is playing Perrin.

Big into fantasy so am enjoying it, I like the world and the setting etc having not read the books. The directing and acting is a bit subpar though, it's noticeably worse than something like the Witcher from Netflix. All the same am looking forward to the next episode.

Okayish so far. Will keep watching it.
Acting's kinda wooden but all the cast are young inexperienced actors. I definitely don't like where they're heading with omitting the distinction between saidar/saidin and suggesting the Dragon could be female. This for me is such a bizarre approach. Like making a Game of Throne series and deciding to leave out the dragons. How do they plan to reconcile this? Kinda curious to see where they are headed with it for now.

Enjoyed the first episode for the most part, haven't finished the second yet. Gorier than I expected.

‘Winter is coming...or maybe it’s summer, not really sure.’

Watched the first 2 last night am enjoying it for someone not familiar with it.

Fantastic episode. By far the best one so far. Nynaeve for the MVP.

I am liking much more the Moiraine's storyline than the Rand/Mat (somewhat interesting) and Egwene/Perryn (boring) ones.

I also liked how strong/intimidating they made Logain.

My only minor annoyance was the hiding-a-festering-wound trope. It didn't come up in the 4th episode so I'm fully expecting his leg to fall off in the next one.

You should definitely spoiler this before you make someone upset.

That said:

Rand is the Dragon Reborn, and they are making a distinction between Saidar and Saidin. Both of those are confirmed by the show-runner. They are making it possible for the Dragon to be female, yes, but they haven't changed who it is.

I wonder why they've recast the role of Mat for season 2... The current actor has impressed me so far.

Arguing with myself if i should start watching it, or finish books first.... been stuck in book 10 for atleast 5 years
Found free audio book on youtube, but not sure if i can go through it all... maybe i should start on book 10?
Should be done in time for book 10 in the show.

Finding it a bit of a struggle at this point to be honest. My wife loves all those CW shoes like Legacies, The Magicians and The Originals which are essentially young adult fantasy with really, really ridiculously good looking twenty somethings pretending to be teens and so far Wheel of Time is giving me the exact same vibe. It just feels so bland and sterile.

Magic effects are piss poor.

I thought they move between poor and ok at times, the way the Aes Sedai dance around is kinda offputting and makes them worse imo, I thought Logains channeling without moving his arms like a twat made it much more powerful and menacing, even though it was just black versions of the same white vfx. Looks much worse when the character doing the magic is doing the macarena in the backround.

People in the 1600-1700s generally weren't that dirty. People in the middle ages weren't really that dirty either, for that matter, it's just that Game of Thrones has led us to believe that anyone who isn't a noble lived in a sackcloth and never bathed. Also, razors aren't a particularly new technology.

That said, this post really makes me nostalgic for @Spoony in the Lost thread, and I appreciate that.

Don't remind me of Lost, Nimic! Recall it having a cult like following on here.

So I'm curious, non-book readers and those who don't already know. Who do you think is the dragon and why? Maybe spoiler you answers, mainly cause I'm curious how it adds up compared to another group I'm in and their opinions. Also no, robinamicrowave I'm gonna predict a timeline answers please.

I remember liking it, but getting increasingly worried that it was going nowhere. And in the end it didn't go anywhere.

I loved it for a couple of seasons, I'd be trying to workout what the hell was going on then one day it dawned on me... Not even the writers knew what the hell was going on!

Better episode this, enjoyed it a lot.

I don't mind the channelling animations, but a lot of the effects are piss poor.

The annoying pretty boy. He was the least interesting at first but is getting better; if I was setting up the audience for the big eventual reveal I might start with him like this.

I think it has been decent so far. Plenty of things it can improve like the cgi and monsters, but they haven't been terrible. I think it's spent most of its budget on the landscaping visuals, as those have been great.

I've liked the actor playing Mat the most so far. Rand's actor is growing on me, but thought he started off poor. Still not sure about the guy playing Perrin, as I don't think he has been great so far. Moraine, Lan and Logain I think have been done really well. The rest have been ok for the most part.

I do feel it has jumped about a bit, and it feels like we are shifting forward rather quickly but I guess that is to be expected somewhat.

Latest episode was better.

Anyone else noticing picture quality issues when watching this in 4K HDR? It looks like it's being upscaled from 720p with all the excessive noise on the screen. I'm not having issues on any other shows (Prime or otherwise) & it's making it really annoying when watching this.

That's a shame, I thought Mat was by far the most interesting character as well as the best actor out of their little group. Rand is exactly how I remembered him from the books.

My favourite character so far has been the guy that was the false dragon in the latest episode. They really Jon Snow'd him after just one episode.

Most likely reason is he was trouble, if it was as simple as him not wanting go commit to a long show that'd surely be made public.

I read he has some personal issues and also deleted all his social media.

This might help:

No spoilers in the post itself, I can't vouch for comments. There shouldn't be any (the sub is very strict about book spoilers), but you never know what find if you go looking deep into threads.

Edit: I see they actually specifically say there are some issues with 4K HDR, so maybe it won't help after all.

Thanks… I think I’ll switch to watching on a 1080p monitor instead. I’ve never had issues with 4K HDR before, so not sure what they’ve done to mess it up.
