The vaccines | vaxxed boosted unvaxxed? New poll

How's your immunity looking? Had covid - vote twice - vax status and then again for infection status

  • Vaxxed but no booster

  • Boostered

  • Still waiting in queue for first vaccine dose

  • Won't get vaxxed (unless I have to for travel/work etc)

  • Past infection with covid + I've been vaccinated

  • Past infection with covid - I've not been vaccinated

Results are only viewable after voting.
Getting a Moderna after 2 Pfizer doses. Thats good right?
Got that a few weeks ago. Arm was sore that’s about it. Glad I have since we have a few anti- vaxxers in my company.

It's been through clinical trials in the UK, as part of a series of booster trials run during the summer. Basically, it worked great to get antibody levels up and it pushed the immune system memory cells to give a wider response as well.

It hasn't been used in the UK because AZ is not a good booster for AZ - and a lot of our over 40s (the original priority group) have had AZ as their first two doses. We weren't using AZ with the under 40s (just Pfizer and Moderna), and Pfizer seems to boost itself ok.

From what we know so far, using AZ to boost Pfizer should work fine.

Thank you so much. Really appreciated this.

Arguably better than 3 straight Pfizer doses if the studies are to be believed.
I think so. Unfortunately, I had the booster yesterday and will fly tomorrow, so didn't risk switching from Pfizer to Moderna, especially knowing that Pfizer didn't give me any affects except a sore arm (and the same for the third one).

I guess I'll get Moderna as fourth dose in 5-6 months.

Anyone in Ireland have any ideas how I can get a booster in Dublin (Northside) without waiting for 3 or 4 hrs at Croker or the Show Centre?

Mates of mine all seem to be getting appts from their GP for this week. I have the wrong one it seems as I was sent a text to an online portal but they'd no appts until late Jan.

I've put myself on a few pharmacy waiting lists for the crack but heard nothing yet. I understand things are getting critical with Omicron but the way they've gone about this booster lark seems a bit slap-dash.
2nd hand but apparently the civic centre in ballymun has got a load of boosters.I’ve heard of other people getting done there, not only people from the area.

Thanks man.

I've been checking wait times and it seems to be easing off a bit. HSE reported was no queue in Swords today with about half an hour left of the 8 - 11:00 slot.

I'll keep an eye on the afternoon session and might pop down there is it's looking good.

For what its worth I had my 3rd Pfizer dose and was in a bad state. But I also also picked up covid around the same time so that might have been it

Are people really debating which brand of booster they should treat themselves to

Just get it! Some folk don't have access to the vaccination program as readily, let alone their booster.

Yeah, first world problems. There’s zero evidence any mRNA booster works better than any other anyway. Just take what you’re given, folks.

It's unsurprisingly sadly.

A global pandemic that's killing everyone off and we are turning down Gucci because we prefer Prada.

No worries. My wife mentioned it in passing as news of her work app, as a load were having trouble like yourself and apparently Ballymun sorted them no quibble with not much wait time. That might change since everyone’s been sharing!

I had the option to choose between Moderna and Pfizer, to be fair. Same for other people, which is why we are discussing.

'Just take what you’re given, folks' makes no sense when they ask you which one you want to take. I guess I would have confused the shit out of them saying, 'just give me whatever you want dude'.

Thanks for that, so the figure is as low as 19% with double vaccinations. But I guess we just don't have the figures for post booster yet.

Edit: just had this pop up in my 'news' feed. Funny how it knows exactly what I'm thinking. :nervous:

Well that myth is busted, my friend has caught Omicron despite being boostered. It's spreading like wildfire through his house. Ridiculously contagious.

That’s weird. If I was given that choice I’d opt for a different booster to the one one I had for the first two doses.

I just didn't want to get sick and potentially miss my flight cause I am proposing to my girlfriend in a few days. Pfizer didn't give me any effects for the first two, so I just made that bet that it won't make me sick again (and it worked, though likely it would have been the same for Moderna).

In normal circumstances, I might have switched, although there are no conclusive studies either way.

I hope she don’t read your Redcafe’s

Is there any data on the efficacy of the 3rd booster (pfizer) against Omricon?

Chuffed to hear now my whole family have had their 3rd booster but worried about Xmas mixing. Deferred any plans to watch Spiderman or Matrix 4

Estonia reduced the waiting time between the second jab and the booster to 3 months, was 6 months before and no priority lists, so everyone can go get it. Good decision as Omicron hasn't really kicked off here yet, maybe will avoid another shitshow. We were the worst country in the world dealing with Delta.

No side effects from my 3rd Pfizer this morning yet other than a bit of a dull arm. Hoping I’ve escaped anything uncomfortable for a third time.

Why are walk in queues quicker than appointment queues ffs

Yeah same! I’ve had no problems each time and I’ve changed to Moderna today and so far so good.

Initial data from the UK suggests that efficacy against infection is around 75% (that means you're 4 x less likely to catch it compared to someone who is unvaxxed). If someone does catch it, the odds of it converting into severe disease will be lower as well, but we don't have numbers for that yet.

As great as that 75% thing is (and it is great for a vaccine) that does mean about 25% are vulnerable to infection - whereas we did have it down to about 5% vulnerable to infection after a booster against delta. You will be hearing about more vaxxed and boosted cases, but we still hope and expect that protection against severe disease to kick in and protect most of them from hospitalisation.

Not perfect but a huge help. If you get hold of LFTs and get people to use them then you can add another layer of protection (do the LFT on the day you meet though, a 2 day old one doesn't really tell you much).

I'm sure Spiderman will wait for you.

Do we know what the best combo for the booster is, or isn’t there much difference? I’m on 3x Pfizer.
It's very good. So is AZx2 + Pfizer or Moderna. So is Pfizerx2 + Moderna etc. Lab tests (on trial volunteers) showed those patterns all work really well. Real world statistics are confirming that all the approved combinations work brilliantly against delta and are doing a good job against omicron as well.

To be honest the JCVI had no reason to lie about this and they say they're good to go. :D

Ah that’s good then. Here’s hoping we don’t need to have a fourth!

Congratulations Revan. Hope things go as planned. Moderna side effects were definitely a bitch and it clearly doesn't prevent Omicron, though it does make Omicron feel like a little cold.

You probably hedged your bets perfectly. Now for the other positive result. I suggest you get on one knee and present her with an LFT* kit and ask her to make you the happiest man alive.

* You know I mean LFC kit right.

Had the booster on Sunday. It absolutely did me in. I felt fine all day and then, just before I was going to sleep that night, I had the worst chills/shivering fit I've ever had, to the point where I had to sit on the jacks to avoid falling over. Then a sort of feverish night, vacillating between scorching hot and frozen, with barely any sleep, followed by a day of soreness all over and complete lethargy. I feel completely normal again today and I've tested negative and am having another tomorrow. I bet I've caught fecking Covid off the queue for my booster.

Nah you just had a harsh response to the vaccine.

Ah, I was just joking due to the below.
In the queue for my booster. Around 10% of people not wearing masks in this massive, packed queue.

Also special mention to the woman a few people ahead who has spent the hour chain smoking and shouting into the phone to various people about how she won’t let people talk to her like that and listing all of the things she’s going to refuse to do if asked etc. I wonder what poor cnut, apart from those of us in the queue, is having to listen to that at 8 in the morning.

Still a solid 7/10.
Sorry, should have said, queue was initially outdoors as it was around 600m long but it wasn’t remotely socially distanced. There were two lines, maybe 2ft from each other, going in opposite directions. I kept my 2m from the guy in front but no one else was, including the guy behind me. Then when it went indoors I only saw a few without masks. Not to mention Fag Ash Lil.

Had my booster on Sunday... Felt like I was going to die yesterday. Probably the most ill I've felt in years (worse then when I actually had Covid) but it literally only was for 24 hours.

First two vaccines didn't effect me at all bar a slightly sore arm

Booster's side effects (Moderna) were awful for half a day. The vaccine itself (JNJ) not bad at all.

Anyone else had the same experience?

Dose 1 Pfizer felt headache and tired, Dose 2 pretty much bricked me for 2 days, Dose 3 hardly reacted other than a pretty sore arm.
