The UEFA Euro Fantasy Draft

Just curious, why did you pick Beckenbauer when you already had Kh Forster?

 Didn't expect anyone to pick up Facchetti which was assumptious of me. Wanted that defense but this will suffice. Was going to play Shearer. Tbh, i blame it all on @Gio and especially @antohan for sleeping. ; )

:nono: You are doing it all wrong, none of these sensible and reasoned posts, this is the time to fling mud at EAP's team in retaliation.

Did Joga change the gif?

Yeah found a better one

I am aware. Personally, i feel the managers and whoever reads this thread are smart enough to see what EAP is doing. Well, if he wants to degrade them like this, that's his prerogative.

Yet, the first to post about Desailly's gay comments. Oh, the irony

Err... no? The hard on was a result of pleasurable mental stimulation and the excessive release of endorphins. There was nothing sexual about it, which is why that yummy lady was needed to, errr, release. Thank god, my balls were turning blue.

Schedule semifinals:

Tuesday: SF 2: The Stain vs Team EAP

I already have EAP's write-up @The Stain , we're just waiting for you, so that we can kick it off :)

Schedule semifinals:

Friday: SF 1: harms vs Joga Bonito

The second semifinal is tomorrow, just a little reminder @harms @Joga Bonito

I actually forgot, I thought that I had one more day  Will do the write-up later today.

Whoever plays first becomes SF 1, surely?

You would think that. But it's Balu, and he is German.

So yeah, the order they got drawn in is really important to all of us, we need to keep the consistency for the unique identifiers used for fixtures, Sky PPV scheduling, and in the FIFA and Live Nation ticketing systems, for our draft semifinal games at Old Cafe (harms vs. Joga) and Red Trafford (EAP vs. the stains of blood left behind).

@harms do you mind waiting a few more hours? Joga isn't around for a while and asked me if I could delay the start until around 4pm. If that doesn't work for you, I start it now.

I thought that was as un-German as someone can be. feck the order.

Okay, let's start it at 4 - I'll be going home at the time but I'll be there around (about? what's the word? :() the beginning.

@Balu no, it wasn't, I was typing that before you asked

I can wait until you're back home? Give me a time, Joga said he's gone for 6 hours and I should wait around 4, so that he doesn't miss too much after the start. I doubt he minds if we wait a bit longer.

Nah, 4 is okay, I don't want it to be a weekend game, which it becomes more and more the longer we postpone, plus I'll be quite busy this Saturday.

I'd disagree, the point of numbering games isn't ordering (which should be obvious looking at a calendar) but codification/unique ID for other purposes. Staying true to that principle which keeps systems ticking (even when completely irrelevant) is the work of a structured/process-oriented mind.

You guys are weird. You know that I just quoted the original post after the draw, when I didn't know in what order the games will be played? If I wasn't too lazy to type the games a 2nd time, I might have actually thought about changing the numbers so that they fit the order, because my structured/process-oriented mind would have felt the need to use something that actually makes sense. But whatever.

El Arquitecto vs USSR in Euro 1964 final (the one with the bandage on his arm for identification purposes)

giphy.gif

(Wins the ball, playing a one-two before pinging a  that is well intercepted by Yashin)

giphy.gif

(Plays a nice one-two befuddling the Soviet midfielder before playing a nice pass)

giphy.gif

(Wins the ball, plays another nifty one-two and crosses accurately for the opening goal)

giphy.gif

(Intercepts the initial pass and closes down ferociously to hurry the Soviet midfielder into a bad pass)

giphy.gif

(Wins the ball once more and hold on to possession)

giphy.gif

(Once again regains possession from the Soviets and looks for a 1-2 with a direct and pacy run out wide)

giphy.gif

(Tackles the ball out for a throw in)

giphy.gif

(Exhibiting his defensive nous - senses the danger and makes an intelligent defensive run to cut out a defense splitting pass. Watch how he doesn't close down the player on the ball like most players do, but tracks the runner like the intelligent player he is.)

giphy.gif

(Reacts first to the knock down ahead of the Soviet midfielder and progresses forward with the ball)

giphy.gif

(Another raking ball of his)

giphy.gif

(Another tackle)

giphy.gif

(Remarkable recovery speed to win the ball again to cut out a promising counter...)

giphy.gif

(makes a well timed cheeky back heel which culminates in a goalscoring chance)

Some serious  moments in this segment.

giphy.gif

(After another  pass, doesn't stand idle admiring his work but rather makes a decoy run to take away the marker, resulting in room for the shot)

giphy.gif

(That feckin technique )

giphy.gif

(Gets to the ball first and looks for a quick one-two with yet another rapid off the ball run)

giphy.gif

(Oh boy )

giphy.gif

(Jinxes past 2 players before finding the winger in space which results in a dangerous cross)

giphy.gif

(Wins the ball before doing a 'Clodaoaldo')

giphy.gif

giphy.gif

(Immense work rate and recovery speed to win the ball back in a dangerous situation)

giphy.gif

(Pings another glorious ball which should have resulted in a penalty but was't given)

giphy.gif

(Another incisive long ball (I'm running out of words ) which results in a good chance)

giphy.gif

(Goes on his trademark mazy run)

(Leaves a Soviet midfielder on his arse)

I won't be around for too long after the 2nd semifinal ends, so here's how the last reinforcement round works, in case it isn't clear yet:

Both finalists (Team EAP & the winner between harms and Joga) send me a list of three players in order of preference. If both pick the same player as first, he's dropped from the player pool and we move on to the 2nd player. Because blocked players are dropped from the pool, you can't pick the same player more than once. Best case, both get their favourite pick, worst case both managers fail to improve their team at all.

An example:
Semifinalist 1: 1. Pele 2. Garrincha 3. Zico
Semifinalist 2: 1. Pele 2. Romario 3. Rivaldo

Garrincha and Romario are the picks.

I'll leave around 16:30 (about 45minutes after the 2nd semifinal is over), so if you have sent your picks by then, I'll reveal the results. If not, you have to wait until tomorrow morning.
