Long-time Dynamo Kyiv captain and the 4th most capped player in USSR history, who was a regular fixture in the Soviet Union team which just lost out to the Dutch in the Euro 1988. The influential Demyanenko was very comfortable in advanced positions and was capable of dominating the entire flank. His consistency, endless stamina, immense wing-play and tidy passing ability puts Demyanenko right up there with the best of his generation. Voted the 3rd best Ukrainian player of all time, trailing only Blokhin and ****.

The best outside right/right winger in Soviet history, Igor Chislenko joins his teammate and friend Valery Voronin behind the Iron Curtain. He was immense in qualifications (humiliating Facchetti in 2 games of 1/8) and pretty instrumental for that Soviet team in 60's, stretching out opposition's defences and providing incisive runs runs from the right wing.

He was unlucky to miss out on the next, 1968, Euro receiving an injury in a friendly just prior to the opening game versus Italy. In 1966 he again scored against Facchetti, in the World Cup game, and Facchetti was surely relieved that Chislenko was missing that game. Italy walked through after the coin toss (no penalties at that time, just poor luck!)

Here's what they were capable of together in 1964 final (Voronin is №5, Chislenko is №7):

I'm biased, but it should've been a penalty.

Voronin also scored in the semi's from Chislenko's cross.

A nice summary of his career...

Born: Sunday 29 November 1925, Vienna, Austria
Died: Sunday 14 November 1992, Innsbruck, Austria (aged 66)
Position: Defender/Manager

An outstanding defender during his playing career, where he reached a World Cup semi-final with Austria, Ernst Happel went on to become one of the most decorated managers in the game history. During a managerial career spanning 30 years, he won league and cup honours in four different countries, became the first manager to win the European Cup with two different clubs and led the Netherlands to the World Cup final in 1978.

Happel was born in Vienna on 29 November 1925 and joined Rapid Vienna as a teenager, getting his first chance to appear in senior football as Rapid played in the 'Ostmark' League during the Second World War. Comfortable in a variety of defensive roles, he often played as a 'stopper' in the position which would come to be identified as sweeper in future years. With Happel at the heart of their defence, Rapid were one of the dominant forces in Austrian football in the post-war years, his impact being enough to see him voted into the club's 'Team of the Century' in 1999.

In the first of two spells with the club, Happel helped Rapid to five league titles in the first nine seasons after the war including a league and cup double in 1946, as well as success in the international 'Zentropa Cup' in 1951. He became an Austrian international in 1947, appearing the Olympic Games in London the following year and remaining a regular in the team until the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland. Austria lost 6-1 to West Germany in the semi-finals of that tournament, after which unproven allegations of bribery were made against Happel and goalkeeper **. Both were so furious at the allegations that they walked out on the national team, with Happel not appearing for Austria for another three years.

Early in the following season Happel left Austria to play for Racing Club in Paris, but returned home in 1956. His second spell with Rapid brought a sixth league title in 1957, as well as appearances in the early years of the European Cup with Rapid coming close to being the first team to knock Real Madrid out of the competition. Restored to the national team, Happel appeared in a second World Cup in 1958 but Austria were knocked out in the group stage. In all he won 51 caps for Austria. Happel retired in the summer of 1959 aged just 33, but remained with Rapid as an assistant coach as the club won another league title in 1960 and the Austrian Cup a year later.

Frank Arnesen

Frank Arnesen was an intimidating player to be put out against. An uncontrollable midfielder surrounded by an astonishing enigma of pace and aggression, he made defenders suffer at the mercy of his feet.

Sadly he endured a career marred by a injury problems. Specifically his right knee caused him a whole world of trouble and it is very likely that we would have seen way more of this player on the world's greatest pitches if not for the many, many injuries he received through an otherwise impressive career which saw him start out with local club Fremad Amager where he formed a formidable partnership with Søren Lerby. Both players moved on to Ajax Amsterdam before Valencia CF in 1981 snapped up Frank. He was often injured and only appeared briefly in his two seasons in Spain but still made a considerable mark with 10 goals in 32 league apparences before visionary Anderlecht scooped him up in 1983. He spent two years in Anderlecht's great team of the eighties also featuring fellow Danes Aldo, Annahnomoss and Balu before he in 1985 returned to Holland and PSV Eindhoven. As a pattern throughout his whole career, Arnesen would be indomitable once fit enough to play but enjoyed such luxury all too seldomly.

Arnesen had up to Mexico '86 been out with injuries as usual but came lucky as EdgarAllanPillow had to pull out of what seemed like a certain starting position in the first XI with a serious ankle injury sustained in a training game. Frank grabbed his chance in what would be the finest hour of his career. After a stale performance against Scotland he showed his worth tenfold in the 6-1-trashing of Uruguay, time and time against tearing apart the Uruguayan defense with his pace. In the final group game against West Germany, he once again played terrific but sadly received a red card by the end of the game after having retaliated against the tackling Lothar Matthaus. This has often been pointed out as one of the key elements in the subsequent downfall as Denmark, firm favourites to win the title after comfortably topping the Group of Death, crashed out with 5-1-defeat to Spain, lacking the prowess of Arnesen's ignited runs and ability to control the pace of the game.

Following the World Cup, Arnesen continued playing until 1988 where he retired as the injuries proved too much of a toll on him. He was a part of the PSV Eindhoven squad which won the European Cup that year but as almost always, Arnesen was unable to play in the final. Following his playing career, he became a respected talent scout discovering the likes of Ronaldo and Romario while working for PSV

I thought that you had Domenghini for that position? I was quite sure that he won't go between my 10th and 11th pick. Whew, that was close!

I do but I needed a 3rd pre 1966 player to start on the pitch, Its okay though ive found another little gem if he holds out :nervous:

Giovanni Ferrari

Giovanni Ferrari (6 December 1907 – 2 December 1982), an Italian soccer player player, played as a midfielder and forward. He is regarded as one of the best players of his generation and as one of the greatest players of all time. A creative midfield play-maker, Ferrari was a strong, fit, hardworking, versatile, and well-rounded footballer, as well as being a generous team player. Due to his technical ability, vision, tactical intelligence, and passing ability, he excelled at building attacking plays and creating chances for team-mates, although he was also capable of scoring himself due to his powerful and accurate shot

With the Italian National Team, Ferrari won two consecutive World Cups (in 1934 and 1938) as a player, along with team-mate Giuseppe Meazza, as well as the Central European International Cup which took place between 1933-1935, alongside Silvio Piola as well. In total he managed 44 appearances and 14 goals with the national side between 1930-1938. He later was the head coach of Italy from 1960 to 1961, and was part of the technical commission with Paolo Mazza leading Italy in the 1962 Fifa World Cup

Ferrari died in 1982 aged 74.

-> If people could respect its very difficult to get access to footage from back in the 1930s of this player, im just going to have to go off articles ive read to judge his ability

Finally, Ibra! If he had gone unpicked until my turn i'd picked him for the hell of it.

Only Platini and Shearer have bagged more goals at the Euros than...

@Theon @NM

One I was on about earlier. He created or scored one goal per game and was overall very good too. Included in the team of the tournament after coming last in his group, has it happened to anybody else?

@Edgar Allan Pillow @MJJ @coolredwine What do you consider as Hierro's better Euro? 96 or 2000? got knocked out at both in the QF iirc, definitely a massive vote winner and a damn good player even if he wasn't at his best at the Euros, just wondered what kind of Hierro we'll expect considering the 2000 one played mostly at CB and the 1996 one played mostly in CM(if my memory isn't failing me)

He is proven in this tournament so I had to say yes. If this was a champions league draft.. I wouldnt have consented.

Proven? Raees! Join the dark side.
The second biggest star in Sweden's team is probably Kim Källström who play for Spartak Moscow, that is how terrible people he has to play with.

Still a goal a game and bullied his defenders around and created chances for his teammates. Notice how he is absolutely bullying the defenders off the ball and makes great runs out wide.

Spanish and Real Madrid legend Rafael Gordillo - who took Spain to the finals of the euros in 84 but missed the final through suspension, with Spain going on to lose to Platini's France
