The Trump Presidency - Part 2

I honestly want Canada to go ahead and turn the electricity they provide off. They can do a TikTok and saunter over to "the button" with shades on flip the switch. I believe I read one of the states the provide for is Michigan. They voted Trump so light some candles.

They could light Trump's farts, that would keep them warm for years.

Just listened to an interview of Bernie Sanders.

He’s gotten a bit of a lisp now, but still sharp at 83 and one of those rare American politicians who’s a wholeheartedly good person.

Oh, what could’ve been.

But they wouldn’t have had the first woman succeeding the first black president!

Get fecking real, this America is not electing Bernie Sanders. Not now, not 8 years ago.

That directed at me? If it is, I’m not suggesting Bernie would’ve won in 16 or 20. Just that out of him, Biden, Hillary and Trump, he’s by far the better person, and that I’d have liked him as President.

I just learned [Official Literacy Statistics 2024-2025](https://www.thenationalliteracyinstitute.com/post/literacy-statistics-2024-2025-where-we-are-now) from the National Literacy Institute.

* On average, **79%** of U.S. adults nationwide are literate in 2024.
* **21%** of adults in the US are illiterate in 2024.
* **54%** of adults have a literacy below a 6th-grade level (**20%** are below 5th-grade level).
**** US ranks 34th in the world for literacy

And yet they can all vote and supposedly run the free world.
Sht going sideways makes a lot more sense now.

The mad thing is Trump actually means the 51st state thing. It's not just trolling — he genuinely does think it's conceivable that he'll be able to annex Canada at some point.
How does this even work practically anyway, and that's without causing a huge backlash within America and Canada? Does America just invade and say that Canadian government is dissolved? It seems such a bizarre thing to even think about.

If Canada wants to get really tough they need to stop exporting the oil to the US, it would be costly and painful for Canadians of course but the short-term impact in mid-western USstates would be massive because the price of gasoline will soar, and Americans get very pissed at high gasoline prices

Probably Trump thinks he’s really popular there, so he could force a referendum to join the US. If the Canadians then voted yes, the negotiations would begin.

But it ain’t happening, obviously.

A Canadian referendum on becoming 51st state would likely result in an embarrassment for America. Canadians are more patriotic than us, save for a few knuckleheads like every country has.

That just seems impossible and he and everyone near him would surely know this.

Prediction on how this will end up

The new Canadian PM will tap into the fear and anxiety, he has a massive open goal to win the election and all he has to do is appease trump just a little. My guess is he’ll do it through military spending.

Ontario doesn't really sell much electricity to the 3 Northern States, NY, Michigan and Minnesota. There are no firm contracts between Ontario and those states, they only purchases when there is a shortage. Ontario produces more electricity than we can use and often sell it at a discount, we have at times given it away or paid the US states to take it off our hands, it cheaper than shutting the plants from time to time. Manitoba and Saskatchewan putting a surcharge or cutting potash exports or Quebec doing the same with aluminum would hurt the US more.

The facts there are no checks and balances in the so called biggest democracy in the world is a joke. An insane president ranting and raving on social media threatening allies, people etc. For those in the knowledge on American politics, what mechanisms for challenge are there outside of the court.

The 51st state talk is just nonsense, there is no support for it here in Canada and I can't imagine Trump is serious about it either. 20 million Canadians voting in an American national election is the last thing any Republican would want, they would overwhelmingly vote Democrat and give the Democrats control of the House, Senate and Electoral College for a generation.

They've apparently been teaching reading by what's known as "whole word reading" for a number of years. It's very silly and means that people are unable to sound out unfamiliar words. I don't know if they still do it.

He'd lose his mind completely (if he hadn't already) should he look into how the electricity grid in Europe works.

Get fecking real, this America is not electing Bernie Sanders. Not now, not 8 years ago.
I think they might have, if the democratic establishment hadn‘t picked Hillary over him, even though Bernie had the momentum. The Russians helped Trump barely defeat Hillary. Bernie would have connected more with the working class.

Marco Rubio personally signing off on Palestinian activist Khalil to be detained and possibly deported on grounds of foreign policy is a disgrace.

Any criticism of Israel is now a punishable offence and freedom of speech is only a thing if you are using your freedom to agree with these far right mobsters

This press secretary is a real piece of work. What is it with MAGA cnuts when they are challenged. They literally shit themselves.

100% of their base will see this exchange as the heroic press woman creature putting the fake news legacy media in place.

He even sort of slumped at the end.

No one cares about the truth. It's all optics. The gaslighting is the best working thing since sliced bread.

This won’t change until it becomes clear to house / senate republicans that the threat of getting primaried by Trump / Musk candidates is outweighed by the pressure / unpopularity within their own constituencies. Currently GOP and USA by an extension (as they hold all 3 branches) is authoritarian by nature.

Great post. Spot on.

Food would be terrible again, dental care would suffer for it, and i dont want to drive on the left, but id welcome some reintroduction of colonization by the Brits at this pt.

Wtf? The irony is dripping from this post, much like most of your nasty assed food. It's a bit rich to use these old assed stereotypes about food when the US has such an obesity crisis and the food they export is just takeaway shite and sugar filled food and drinks.

We have much higher food regulation standards than you lot too. None of your fake cheese or nasty assed sugar filled bread. Subway UK had to change the recipe of their bread because of high sugar and other shit contents. And we don't want your nasty assed chlorinated chicken either.

As for the teeth thing, that's not true anymore either, it's just most of us don't walk around with Hollywood UV teeth, and we don't have anywhere near the meth problem or crack problem in the UK that the US does either. Also, Turkey is closer to here and cheap as feck to get your teeth done.

There he goes again with his completely fecking unnecessary random capitalisation of words again. I suppose his posts just prove the issue with basic literacy and grammar issues in the US. It's bad enough they have to remove silent vowels because they can't understand the concept of their importance. Replacing the suffix ise with ize is another unnecessary change and of course the old favourite is they completely bastardise the spelling and pronunciation of aluminium.

The one that baffles me the most though is 'bouy' being pronounced as 'booweey' which makes no sense at all as it comes from bouyant and buoyancy. I mean, is that boowent and boowency over there? And are life jackets called booowency aids? It just makes no fecking sense at all.

It's bad enough due to phonics being taught in the UK that people have lost the ability to pronounce the letter H correctly.

I guess I should just be grateful I was learnt English right and to talk proper, innit.

I think they might have, if the democratic establishment hadn‘t picked Hillary over him, even though Bernie had the momentum. The Russians helped Trump barely defeat Hillary. Bernie would have connected more with the working class.
The Russian impact on that election was minimal. People voted for Trump because he was perceived as anti establishment and Hillary was the embodiment of the establishment. Had it been Bernie, it would have been portrayed as Trump was like Reagan fighting Stalin or some other nonsensical shit , and it would have been lapped up. Trump would've won in a landslide.

I don't think it would have gotten to that point. Biden was the Dems answer to Bernie's popularity in the Primaries

Now that's an unelectable man.

And it's such a shame because he's truly one of the greatest politicians I've ever heard speak in my life. It's just such a shame nothing he says or proposed has happened or that he was never elected as President. I honestly think the USA would be a completely different place if he was elected and had the mandate to push through many if not all of his policies.

It is hard to know what would have happened, but Bernie was polling miles better than Hillary against Trump.

I think that he would have defeated Trump, make GOP go more left instead of more crazy and everything would have been much better. It was a generational opportunity that Dems fecked up by choosing the queen.

But we will never know. What is unlikely though, is that things would have gone worse if they chose Bernie. At worst, it would have been as shit as it is now.

But the Dems has their hands tied on that one. It was literally her turn.

"Polling better" becomes very different the moment candidates are set one against the other. It would have been Mccarthy style propaganda against him.
But, he has charisma , I give you that, unlike the Erika Ten Hag of politicians.

There was propaganda against him the second time around from GOP (‘crazy’ Bernie), and he still was obliterating Trump in polls. However, the Dems engineered the zombie to get the nomination with everyone dropping out at the same time, except Warren.

Of course GOP would have done propaganda, but Bernie was a very likeable candidate, whom unlike any Dem politician since Obama was able to energize masses and connect with people. It is very hard to do propaganda against that. And let’s be fair, they made Biden and Harris like they are Marx reincarnated so there was not much more they could have done against Bernie.
But the Dems has their hands tied on that one. It was literally her turn.
Indeed, nothing they could have done to not have her or Harris.

I know it can't be said often enough. But insert any Democrat period. Doing this Tesla informercial basically on government property. The media would never ever stop talking about it. Trump literally handing out favors to his biggest donor on our dime but they wont say a word about the corruption.

This is absolutely insane coming from Europe. I have never seen anything like it.
