The Trump Presidency : Part 2

Smartphones and computer now exempted from the China tariffs. I thought the plan was to have thousands of Americans putting in tiny screws on iPhones?

This is confusing.

He’s folding more and more by the day. China just has to never take the phone and he’ll end up removing the lot by the month

Agreed. China have all the cards and Xi probably isn’t going to capitulate when he knows he has Trump on the economic ropes.

And even if they don't, we are talking about a country that starved and purged 70 millions of its own people for industrialisation + Mao's little book burning hissy fit. The idea that the average US citizen can or even willing to endure more hardship in a prolonged trade war is fanciful at best.

Ok, but apart from smartphones and computers, what have the Chinese ever done for us?
Clothes, toys, you name it.

Our weaknesses relative to China are serious. The way to deal with them should be measured, gradual and consistent. It should also involve agreements with other countries, like Europe and Canada.

Since “Liberation Day,” Trump was trying to rally our “allies” against China. Well, it would’ve been smarter 1) to exempt them from tariffs; 2) not spend 80 days insulting every European country and Canada.

He should know that having our allies in this “trade war” with China (which I personally don’t like) would put us in a better position, just like having them on our side in an actual war would put us in a better position. There are 4-5 Chinese for every American!

Peaceful protests against Israels genocide = being an antisemite supporting Hamas, a terrorist organisation, foreign students are deported, enemy of the state and all that.

Storm the capitol while heavily armed, something that resulted in fatalities and where a lot of police officers were injured, causing a shitload of damage overall, because you think an election was rigged = making america great again, get pardoned.
Yup. It’s hypocrisy all the way down. Hypocrisy is a virtue to fascists.
She was 19 when Trump first got elected and will have watched those predecessors. For her this is normal in a way it couldn't even be for anyone 10-20 years older. Honestly think she is as convinced of the nonsense she spreads as a Kremlin or Pyongyang spokesperson.
She’s only 18 months older than me. She’s 27 years younger than my mum yet she looks almost as old as her. And her husband is in his sixties and therefore old enough to be her dad. Yet the Republicans have the bare-faced cheek to try to lecture us on morals.
Hegseth is seemingly a full-on racist if his book and public comments about Gen CQ Brown last year are anything to go by. He's probably full-on Trump's dick in this DEI attack. The US Army is around 54% white, 20% black, 17% Hispanic, 7% Asian-Pacific Islander, 2% all others. I'd imagine a significant percentage of the component is not taking kind to this garbage and it will ultimately impact retention. IMO, when they're saying they want to rebuild and strengthen the armed forces it conveys an undertone that minorities are lazy and unworthy and it takes white men to make it strong. They have confirmed a retired 3-star general as the JCS, who is unqualified by law for this position, and is white of course.
Yup. Pete Hegseth, or should I say Kegbreath, is a passionate white supremacist. He hates everybody who isn’t white, male, heterosexual, cisgender, Christian, and neurotypical. He’s a horrible fecking cnut and I hate him.

This just underscores Trump’s primitive Art of the Deal tactics. Publicly set ridiculous tariffs on countries while privately cajoling them to contact him to start negotiations - all so he can strike a deal. I don’t think he factored in the possibility that Xi wouldn’t contact him, which will now probably result in a global recession.
"Never interrupt your opponent while he is in the middle of making a mistake" - The Art of the Deal

Imagine starting a trade war with the country that makes literally everything for the whole world

Was Bill Maher always this bad? I thought they had teams of writers.. The canned laughter made it worse because it was so unfunny so just seemed weird

Maher is simply making the well known migration of the purported liberal centre-left individual to the right.

It has been witnessed for generations. I remember my grandparents telling me about them watching Oswald Mosley making the same journey when they were young.

At least Maher will be able to write endless columns for Spiked. If he was British he would also be given a seat in the House of Lords.

I’ve hated him since I first heard of him about eight years ago because he hates Muslims and is part of the New Atheist movement.

Oh god, Spiked. That’s an utter rag of a publication. I hate it. Especially that fiveheaded cnut Brendan O’Neill.

Yeah, he’s always been a self-righteous wanker. I guess I’d never heard him try stand up before though so was a bit surprised at how tragic it was.

Don't forget Frank Furedi. A man who was a Communist and genuinely wrote excellent books on British colonialism, including The Mau Mau War in Perspective, The New Ideology of Imperialism and The Silent War. A brilliant take on British colonial abuses in the 1950s.

Now he is writing pieces titled "In 2024, the war on Britain’s past became unhinged" for Spiked.

damn. That’s upsetting.

Trump Eyes Overhaul of University Accreditation as Political Weapon

What Happened: Trump is gearing up to overhaul the U.S. college accreditation system as part of a wider assault on higher education. His regime is reportedly exploring ways to let states bypass traditional accreditors, punish schools that support DEI, immigrant, or LGBTQ rights, and approve new partisan “Trump-friendly” accrediting bodies.

Why It Matters: Accreditation is the gateway to federal financial aid — without it, universities and students lose billions. Trump’s plan would destroy academic independence, turn education into a political loyalty test, and flood the system with sham, propaganda-driven schools modeled after “Trump University.”

Its very impressive how much he gets done (or tries to) despite taking all those golf breaks.. Not even joking.. he's doesnt stop.

He has a ton of people that are working on these things and he takes credit for all of them. He's the useful idiot they need to get their agenda done.

If you’re not really thinking that much or studying something deeply before acting, you can take decisions quite fast.

It’s the careful consideration of your actions that slows people down.
