The Trump Presidency : Part 2

I would like to think that. European countries need to try and get as independent from the US as possible. We cannot assume Trump is an outlier.
I'd say he's closer to the logical conclusion than outlier sadly.

With Peterson it seems mostly about "self improvement".
Yeah, that was his origin along with some anti-woke stuff, but now he’s gone off the deep end with his Benzo fueled Batman villain act. He’s downright repulsive now.

This is how people get their "info" nowadays. The likes of Rogan have so much pull. A lot of people prefer to listen to a podcast, and get all their junk from there. Dems haven't figured out that advertising on the main networks is not the way to spend money anymore.

To be fair I don't know why the likes of Noah, Rogan, Carlson have as many listeners as they do. We want to be informed, but we are too lazy to do our own thinking and research ourselves.

they all shunted over to the right with rogan like leeches, and he helped them along too

the more right he became, the more money he made

and I think that meant the more right the guests moved, the more they frequented the show

look at Peterson, he started off as right wing to begin with, but largely sensibly so, and now he's a full-on climate change denier, shilling for oil companies no doubt... if he suddenly found an argument for eugenics he'd be the last person that would surprise me about

it's basically a viscous spiral of toxic shite designed to get rich on the back of regular working people's work

edit: apologies misread, I thought you were talking about his guests, a little bit stoned

It's the likes of Russell Brand, Matt Walsh and Jordan Peterson (in his current state) that are really puzzling to me. I just don't see how anyone find them appealing.

With regards to Brand, he switched sides just before the rape and sexual assault and abuse claims were circulating publicly and before the Dispatches documentary came out. It's been long known throughout the comedy and TV/film entertainment community that Brand was a predator, but much of his adoring public didn't believe the rumours or brushed them off, much the same way they do for Trump.

Here's a great article about Brand, written by a former fan who goes in to great detail as to how Brand captures his audience and how his chameleon approach and style have helped his switch to the right.

Apparently they are all from the same church, and "The church they belong to is an abusive cult. They control law enforcement and politics in Spindale, NC". according to one comment
That makes a lot of sense. Those people are weird.

What’s great is they’ve even got a “response to media lies” section of the church website. You can see the women from rallies on there too in the family photos

He voted for Trump. Now his wife sits in an ICE detention center.

Love it. Trump winning. She's gorgeous though so he's winning too. He might just have to move. This is what I don't get. Immigrants or people from immigrant families who voted for this slime are still shocked at his immigration stance. He made it very clear that he would be very aggressive in getting illegal immigrants out of the US.

You just answered your own question
Suppose I did. I don't know how you get people off of this path. Part of it maybe through education. Laziness is also involved, and we seemingly want to be entertained more than anything as we attempt to get our information.

This looks too selective. If you're including Trevor Noah surely you'd have to also include Jon Stewart, John Oliver and Stephen Colbert among others and that would change the look of that visualization. No doubt right wing new media is powerfully influential but the gap isn't as big as that makes it look.

Those are podcasters, not TV hosts. The podcast space has a much bigger audience than anything TV has to offer these days, which is why it’s a suitable focus for the analysis. Everyone already knows about what cable news, late night shows, and the Daily Show being to the debate. Even within the cable news space Fox is cleaning the clocks of MSNBC and CNN combined, which is reflective of what right wingers are doing to libs in the podcasting space.

Life is shit and difficult for a lot of people in the west, the standard of living is dropping compared to their parents and grandparents, most can't afford to buy a home and rents eat up majority of wages, can't start a family because of it, public services ravaged due to lack of investment . Wealth gap between the rich and poor is just getting bigger and bigger with corporations making astronomical profits and buying more and more political control, middle classes getting hammered with taxes and inflation. All these conditions are ripe for right wing propaganda, blaming all these ills on immigrants, Muslims, trans people, gays and 'woke' culture which these rw influencers feed on.

And only $1.5 trillion spent last year providing subsidies to fossil fuel companies.

There’s a reason that news channels don’t simply report news without any editorial slant.

We don’t like simply being given facts, we like narrative and we like things that confirm how we feel rather than what’s actually happened.

The woman in red reminds me of this.

Oklahoma proposes teaching standards suggesting 2020 election ‘discrepancies’

Teachers in Oklahoma would be instructed to have high school students “identify discrepancies in 2020 elections results” under new academic standards for social studies approved by the state education board last month.
The standards, which were obtained by the Oklahoma journalism not-for-profit NonDoc and published in full on Wednesday, must be approved by the Oklahoma legislature.

What’s even funnier is that she was Trump fan too, going by her FB posts.
