The Trump Presidency - Part 2

Do we have an up to date figure for the amount of tax dollars Musks companies have received in handouts?

I saw on Reddit they got their figures wrong and one saving was actually £8m rather than the claimed £8bn.

As one reply put it “The difference between £8m and £8bn is roughly £8bn”.

Who cares about reality? All that matters is what Musk & Trump tell everybody!

Beyond parody.
He's not alone though, Boeing has gotten billions in subsidies and so have many others

What is crazy is you hear MAGA defense of Elon and DOGE talking about how he doesn't have to do this and he's not getting paid. He just wants to save us money! Literally had a guy I used to work with post that Elon isn't even getting paid. Its insane the logical leaps they tie themselves into to justify nonsense.

When you directly benefit from MULTIPLE companies for government contracts and on top of that he gets to fire the agencies that inspect and regulate HIS OWN companies. Sure hes doing it all out of the kindness of his heart to some of these people.

People are thick.

Boeing isn’t pontificating about saving taxpayer money whilst destroying thousands and thousands of lives at the same time.
Well they haven't destroyed 1000's and 1000's but they have destroyed a few and ruined some airlines in the process!

By no means am I defending the honour of Boeing, but the difference between the two situations is very obvious.

To be absolutely clear; corporations receiving massive government handouts is always morally objectionable. The US has done a great job pulling the wool over the eyes of the population; handouts for individuals is communism and outrageous, but handouts for corporations is CEOs being smart.

I'd disagree with some of that, some government "handouts" have wider benefits to society that woudn't happen otherwise, not all obviusly but IMO it would wrong to tar them all as morally objectionable

Potentially fair; but if those same corporations have CEOs making tens of millions every year I’m gonna take some persuading.

I don't see the Boeing CEO cancelling federal subsidies, fundings and kicking out federal servants because the government spends too much

Aren't they taking the piss here? Like obviously they are but it's so brazen there must be a few Americans feeling a bit helpless.... and aggravated

What's the day to day convo like, is this stuff not on the agenda?

Medical research is one, without Government funding many of the life-saving drugs and treatments on the market today wouldn't exist

Of course not and that's not why Musk is doing either though, many of these jobs will come back and be filled by loyalists or outsourced to companies that his mates run

Hoping someone can be bothered reading through all this and letting us know if there's anything to it.

"This letter factually explains issues in election ‘24 that you need to know."

Unfortunately, conspiratorial nonsense.

1) Crowdstrike outage affected electoral systems in 4 states. Arizona, Texas, South Dakota and Washington state. 1 of which remotely resembles a swing state.

2) The Document literally uses reddit as a source for bomb threats

3) It's source for electoral system weaknesses is a substack article about how anything with a USB system that even if air-gapped could be hacked. There isn't even a USB port on Dominion machines!

4) The claim that it's statistically impossible for the flip is backed by....a youtube channel with 29k views called "Election Truth Alliance."

Its basically 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 = 1000

Yea big pharma really need the assistance, I’m glad the taxpayer can help them with their tight profit margins. Making money in healthcare in the US is a tough business.

Just saw congressman Frost was kicked out of a hearing by the thin skinned Republicans under the lead of Comer for...."disparaging the president of the United States" ...what did he say? He called him and Musk grifters.

But hey showing dick pics and shouting all sorts of slurs is a-ok with these people.

First amendment only applies when you're telling lies or being racist

A large number of novel drugs start as concepts in academic labs or academic screening centers. The researchers then either sell the IP directly to big pharma or spin out small companies to conduct further drug development and then partner with, or are acquired by, big pharma.

Those labs get the vast majority of their funding from NIH grants.

Sure, but that doesn't mean that the funding that they are eliminating will be used. One of the big arguments for the existence of DOGE is cutting expenditures it goes with the acronym. Regardless, the comparison with Boeing is poor has noting to do with what Musk has received and what he is doing now in the government. Is not comparable. If you single out 1 thing like both receive subsidies, ergo they should be criticized the same is like saying that Tesla is exactly the same as Boeing because they are transportation vehicles.

No, what Musk and Tesla per extension had receive from the government and what he is doing is unique and Boeing should not even appear as a whataboutism comparison

Big pharma make use of it no question, but they make their $$$ because of the patent system rather than from the research, and it's not just the US, most western governments fund it

So the US will impose its tariffs on Canada next week. (Or possibly later; I see the message changed again this evening .) 25% across the board, except 10% on oil imports (or possibly all energy). But the US's trade deficit with Canada (roughly US$60B) would be wiped out if oil imports were cancelled. But also today, Trump announced that he'd like to see the Keystone XL pipeline built ASAP - which would transport more Canadian oil into the US.

Make it make sense.

The bar is so low. Using the fecking Oval Office to grift, advertising his shitty merchandise, throwing a cap at a reporter, telling the reporter to always say yes to anything Trump says or asks whilst making crude innuendo all on camera.

@Damien gotta keep the post count up, amirite?

What I find crazy is that with all the money that he is getting from other countries, tech bros, oil companies and others and grifting the markets with his decisions that probably gets him hundreds of millions of dollars, he does something so crass like petty marketing

Soon it will be United States of Trump and the Trump Ocean.

Big pharma doesn’t get government grants. I presume he’s talking about academic medical research. State funding for research done at universities or public hospitals.

I look forward to the next global financial crisis this administration will trigger.
