The Transfer Deadline Day Thread / Most crazy ever?

Sky sports news must be loving the fact united will be involved, usually fergie has come out a day or two before saying no more signings. I'm still expecting spurs to try and sign someone at 10.57 like usual

Nothing we've done so far is in the least dependent on selling Bale. To believe that Levy doesn't know his onions is just wishful thinking.

Oh come on mate get real. It's the first time Spurs have spent anywhere near this amount of money (haven't you broke your transfer record 2-3 times as well) it's no coincidence that Bale was also sold at the same time. It's nothing to be ashamed of, I find it hard how you can even think Spurs would splash 100m otherwise.

I am glad a couple more signings have brought you back from your self imposed exclusion, the place was not the same without you.

Oh and you are talking nonsense.

Perhaps I know more about the state of Spurs finances than you do. And besides, it lacks credibility to suggest that Levy - one of the most financially clued-up people in the game - has taken the risk that's been suggested.

I'm just dreading the Moyes interview tomorrow, I think he's going to downplay any involvement in deadline day.

What risk? Real are going to sign bale, they're not backing off because there is no other player like him that they can sign instead.

We'l sign atleast 1 player. I hope so for the sake of sanity of the ones making these calls at the club.
Imo considering the circumstances, we might end up with no signings. The most likely signing remains fellaini. Herrera imo is not possible - however we might be laying the groundwork for a January signing.

They could back out if they wanted to, considering that they don't need Bale at all. But they'd look quite foolish after all the time and effort invested in getting him.

There is obviously an agreement in place otherwise Levy wouldn't have spent the fee. Which he has.

I am sure you have a direct line to Levy's piggy bank. You sort of contradict yourself. Levy is no financial fool, he is spending money he knows is coming in from Bale, he would never have spent it other wise. To say different is ludicrous.

My bet is that the deal is already done but Levy has requested either an announcement tomorrow at the earliest or Monday morning. He never wanted to go buying with an apparent lot of money in his bank.

In case you didn't realise, I bow down to your superior knowledge in most things and know you are a legend in your own lifetime.

I think both deals are possible and will be done if we're ready to pay up, if we're not, we wont get them.

Real were never after Bale just because they needed him anyways. They want the hottest property around after Barca got Neymar. He's a top footballer and would improve them. Nothing's changed.

Is what I think as well. There has been a cool-down of all the blatant tapping up that had been on for a while. It has all the signs of a clever deal. Its done but not made public so that Spurs dont end up paying more than they otherwise would for players.

In net terms it's just over £80m so far.

But that has to be balanced against several factors, including: very little net spend for several windows past + extra TV money this year (and for the next 2 years after) + improved sponsorship deals + several more players that we can sell + less expenditure on wages than at least 5 other Prem clubs.

There are other financial aspects that I won't mention, but just on the above factors alone Spurs can spend £80m (net) - and more - if we choose without receiving any Bale money.

Regarding us, reading around the Spanish release clauses and another footballer's fathers quotes we definitely left Herrera too late.

Fellaini I expect on Monday, but I probably shouldn't should I?

Seems the most logical assumption.

At the same time that's not to say Spurs would go into financial disarray if, for some freak reason, the Bale deal collapses.

That was Porky Pig's line. Although he did say it on a few occasions (and it was originally uttered by Bosko), Bugs would usually sign off with "And that's the end".

Get it right.

Sorry Dumbo, won't happen again.

English clubs are making a lot of money. Even if the deal broke through for some reason, there's going to be no disarray mate. Spurs are a big club.

You're just repeating what I said...

We'll try for numerous players, fail, end up overpaying for Fellaini and Baines in desperation.

Spurs can manage a single season with a high net spend like £80m, however, it is extremely fanciful to suggest that it isn't going to be wiped clean by the Bale money once it comes in.

Still find it amusing that Glaston thought the mighty mammoth of a club, Spurs would hold on to Bale this summer.

Our bids have been way-off market rate for everyone we have been in for.

Moyes has never had money and Woody is more interested in making it than spending it. They are operating as though it is 2005.

Nothing will happen, and it would be sensible and delightful. We will be prepared and are aiming to pounce next summer.

Nonsense. Also, Pouncing isnt how I'd describe the way we conduct business.

It would - seriously - be much better to wait until clubs are in a more willing position to sell.

Too many clubs who don't want the disruption and don't need the money right now.

Aye, we look to have made a bit of a balls of buying midfielders this window, so it might make most sense to pick off the low-hanging fruit (Fellaini) and then see what we can do either between now and the end of the January window or next summer.

We've created the situation for ourselves by doing what Sir Alex prided us on never doing, waiting till the last day to conduct business. The problem is of our own creation. What's done is done though. Fact is, we dont have enough numbers in CM atm. We'd again by praying for Carrick to remain fit all year long if want to win the league. The CL, well, unless we get lucky, even a fully fit Carrick wont be enough.

Tomorrow's Star suggests we are in for 5 midfielders

Fellaini, De Rossi (on loan....), Gundogan, Herrera and Modric.
