The Third Redcafe Sheep Draft

Quick couple of questions:

1. Is there any way to get rid of the sheep once they've been bestowed upon us?
2. And as a follow up, what is the all time record for sheeps acquired in a single draft by one team? Reckon we might set a new one this time. 2 already, with what must be a 3rd on the way in just 5 rounds.

1. Not usually.
2. MJJ holds the record with 4 sheeps (nearly 5) in the 2nd Sheep Draft. Me (in 2nd Sheep draft) and Tuppet (in current draft) rank 2nd with 3 sheeps...as of now.

2. MJJ holds the record with 4 sheeps (nearly 5). Me (in earlier draft) and Tuppet (in current draft) come a close 2nd with 3 sheeps...as of now.

Got it, so essentially we're stuck with them. Reckon MJJ's record will be beaten quite handsomely though. Would be surprised if we're not sitting on 6 or 7 sheep out of 12 rounds by the end of the drafting phase. Matchday thread will be a hoot and a half. :D

Yea, for one the club career stats on wiki are not much to go by. He of course played more than that. Won the Copa Libertadores with two different teams. Doesn't show up as appearances. Notice in the few appearances listed how many goals he has scored. He was that good at free kicks. Not many full backs have scored this many goals and he wasn't even a very offensive fullback like Carlos or Cafu.
To be fair I have no fond memories from Arce. I don't think there is a reliable source on how many games he played during those cup runs or what was his part. I agree that he was a great FK taker not only for scoring but also crossing the ball. The dead ball situations were Paraguay greatest strengths during the WC, with him and ***** taking the FK's, I think they scored another one in 2002 from a header from a set piece (may be mixing it up as I saw a lot of FK goals in WC these days)..:D

The goals games ratio is generally be higher of course since he played at weaker leagues at that time, compared to **** and Carlos. If Wiki is correct he has only 5 goals for Paraguay, so it's not that spectacular number.

There are many reasons why players don't play in Europe. It's not a necessity. The difference is money wasn't as much as it is now. You might remember at the turn of the century when United played in the Club World Championship how the competition was a lot stronger. Both United and Real took part but Corinthians and Vasco played in the finals. Palmeiras won the Copa Libertadores the year after (winners of the '98 Copa participated in the 2000 CWC). I imagine you know something about Copa Libertadores so you should take that into perspective.
Well CWC is a 2-3 games competition in the middle of the season which IMO is kinda not very good to compare the strength of leagues as there are one off matches. My point for playing in Europe was because most of the leaders that Paraguay had at that time - *****, *****, ********, *******, ***** ****, have played, or played in Europe at the time. But of course there is a point that gull backs are generally less noticed.

In your opinion Srna is better. That's your proclamation because you hadn't heard of the guy and took a short look at his wiki page. Srna is a Croatian that hasn't played outside of Croatia and Ukraine. Are you telling me that those leagues are stronger than the Brazilian league?

Srna imo is a bit better. And no actually I've seen the guy live couple of times and he once scored a brace against my NT, as we were drawn against Croatia for both WC and Euro's. He has taken part in 3 Euro's and 2 world cups. Also he's frequently in CL or Europa league. So yeah I know Darijo Srna.

edit: Might want to add that I don't have anything against Srna. He's just being brought up as a direct comparison. Pick wise I don't think Srna is great because he peaked quite a while ago and so people's memory of him will be how he's played in recent years (***** anyone?).
I don't think Srna is great either, just answered to the direct comparison. I mean depends on who you compare him to. If you compare them to the 2 RB that are already picked they are of different class.

To be fair apart from WC I don't think anyone has vivid memory about Arce. I think it will be hard to sell him, as generally not many people remember him or know something about him. Just my .02 of course :)

The CWC is a 2 game competition for European teams now. Back in 2000 there were 2 groups and a knock-out stage. United had to choose between taking part there or in the FA Cup. I still remember that shitty Necaxa game. Point is, competition was stronger so there was more to go by.

The wiki comment was about Arce, not Srna.

He won't be a hard sell. The majority of players here are players that almost no one has seen play. It's harder to sell some great players just because people have a personal bias against them. Branco, Arce and Nelinho (never heard of him before) will all be unknowns to many. Just because two of them are Brazilians doesn't mean they are better.

Hey you, leave Nelinho out of this :nono::p

Nelinho scored THAT goal. One of my favorite goals of all-time

Where were the comparisons when unnamed right back scored in the WC 2010?
That Brazil team's more remembered for their attacking rather than defensive players. The same could be said for any past Brazilian team, in fact (bar the World Cup winners and consistently successful ones).

Pointless to compare players in that fashion at this stage, IMO.

Whether someone is a good, mediocre or poor pick depends entirely on factors not known yet. Including OBVIOUS factors such as how the managers will set up.

Got it, so essentially we're stuck with them.

Unless we're given the chance to poach players from other managers, giving them ours in return. That has been done before.

The chances of you getting rid of multiple sheep, however, is probably slim - but anything can happen.

I'm just talking about the goal by itself. Remarkably similar.

Good thing Sir Bobby Moore got blocked in the first round along with Finney and Banks. It makes my Matthews pick even better.

 let's see who I'll drag to get a sheep along with me this time.

You should start going for the biggest name possible on every pick. Either you'll get them and start turning your team around or you'll end up with an entire 11 of sheep which would be hilarious. I will commit to voting for your sheep side in every round.

Morning, folks! I'm ready for my first sheep. Bäääääääääää :wenger:
