The Super Bowl Thread

This thread is haunted!!!!!

Back to my question, I only guessed he's hated from some of the reactions here, nothing more..

They don't. Manning is undoubtedly one of the best QBs to ever play the game. In this instance, i think New Orleans benefited from the post Hurricane sympathy factor, as well as the fact that Drew Brees is a nice guy - whereas Manning sort of came across as a statistical machine who chokes in big games.

He threw some amazing passes yesterday. That one interception was the turning point and he was trying to make something happen but it was still more of a great defensive play than a QB error.

The most forgettable part of the whole thing was the Who at halftime. I don't think the live or tv audiences are particularly keep on watching a bunch of senior citizens play music that was popular 35 years ago.

No, it's because the right-wing Christian loons who run America were freaked out by seeing Janet Jackson's nipple. Hence, no more "current" music.

Have to say I felt a bit sorry for Manning when he threw that INT, then I start laughing my ass off when he got blocked on his ass on the return.

Thanks man, been chilly as feck lately hasn't it.

Happy for Brees though, I do recall a lot of people arguing with me when I said he was an elite QB earlier this year, they aren't saying anything now.

A little rain here and there but not too much up here.

Brees's Super Bowl performance certainly puts him in the top tier of quarterbacks. You can't say that he's had inflated stats by hitting wide open receivers deep anymore. Colts gave him absolutely nothing deep and he still managed to pick them apart with some amazingly accurate short and mid-range passes.

feckin echoes in here are murder ;)

I think he's disliked because he's on every 2nd commercial hawking this, that and the other.

I've no beef with him but I do hear him taking a lot of stick alright.

So is/was Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, David Beckham, both Ronaldos, Ronaldhino, Messi, Federer, Gretzky, Crosby, etc. Not a lot of hate for them.

Marino syndrome

The same loons banging interns in their office and visiting the local strip clubs.

Seriously, the Timberlake/Janet thing fecked up SB half-times for a while. The worst part about The Who was they played all their songs that CSI use as the theme. fecking sellouts.

Marino syndrome

Marino didn't have many big games to choke in. Just the SuperBowl vs the 49ers when he was a sophomore with the Dolphins. If he had the supporting cast that Montana or Elway had, he would've been much more successful in big games.

Oh I agree and I still believe Marino was the best pocket passer in history. Shula never found a running game, failed to replace the Marks brothers, and the defenses were often below par. Put Marino in SF, Denver, Dallas, Chicago, NY Giants, etc., and he'd have won some championships.

No, that was me Alex and what I said at that point still stands, I’m not 'saying anything now' because it was not brought up. I didn’t say Brees was not a very good player or that he had inflated stats by hitting receivers deep, what I essentially said was that he was not as good as Brady or Manning. It also seemed that where we differed most was on our definitions of ‘elite’. Does winning a Super Bowl and finishing off the magical season the team and the city of New Orleans had make a difference to my way of thinking? Probably so.

The coin toss is important business.

People bet paychecks on that thing

People on here obviously like the sport and this is for some one of the biggest events of the year, so what is the point of you trying to belittle it? It's quite childish.

Just stay away if you think it's that ridiculous.

Thank you

So have I got this right?

The Lakers need their star pitcher to hit a slam dunk from second base in the fifth quarter to win the Stanley Cup, or else they don't get to face their arch rivals the Dallas Indians in the play offs?

And where's Michael Jordan?

Barry bonds has marked him out of the game so far.

I'd put him just behind Manning and Brady but only just. I certainly would feel entirely at ease with Brees at the helm of my team.

I believe his stats with Duper and Clayton are still near the top for QB and WR numbers. As far as the big game he did get to 3 AFC championship games and only won his first. He sucked against New England and Buffalo when in both games the Dolphins had the superior season.

Manning is clearly better then Dan ever was and I have been a dolphins fan since Christmas night in KC in 71

It was adequate for many of the years that they actually challenged in the AFC however the NFC was so superior back then as evidence by the teams you mentioned that even if the Dolphins had defeated New England the next year after the San Fran superbowl or The Bills they would have been heavy underdogs against their NFC opponent.

Oh and a major part of the reason that the Dolphins never became a better running team during that time period was Dans need to pad his stats.

Marino would not have done anything of note in Denver, those teams Elway drug to the playoffs in the 80s were dire

For me its a matter of supporting casts. True Marino had the Marx Brothers, but they were really only at their peak for a year or so (84ish). There was never a good running back. Conversely, Manning has had Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, Edgerin James, and he even had Marshall Faulk in the backfield during the prime of his career in his Rookie season. Surround Marino with that sort of talent and you've got yourself a few rings. Basically everyone Manning has been surrounded with are sure future hall of famers.

Not to forget the fact that the officials are far more offense friendly these days. Marion would have had a field day if he was playing today.
