Television The Sopranos

Loving it so far. About 8 episodes into the first season. I can’t be the only one that finds the shrink a little bit sexy.... right?

Feck no.

Pilot episode aired 20 years ago today.

That opening shot of Tony driving out the Lincoln Tunnel... ever since I saw that for the first time it's a view I always glance at when I drive into Jersey.

Glad to see the internet giving the show it's just due... even if it's brilliance may have been surpassed by a few series, it's status as The Pacesetter for excellent TV drama can never be understated.

So long ago since i last watched it but in those video clips, isn't the guy that "kills" tony the guy sitting at the table outside satrialies when the fbi go in for the sarnie?

Who was he again?
Who did he work for?
Who ordered the hit?

Honestly can't remember

Do you mean Eugene? He’s wearing a member’s only jacket like the dude in the diner (see below), but Gene committed suicide at the start of season 6 in one of the show’s darkest episodes. Gene was a soldier under Ralph and then Vito, he was made in the same ceremony as Chrissie.

This is the chief suspect for those who think Tony got whacked in the diner, but there was never any explicit hint it was coming:

I don’t know, I can’t think of many shows that you would say surpassed this. Perhaps it’s aged, but in terms of sheer quality I still think it’s still an elite show. It basically made being unemployed three years back absolute bliss.

That explains it. Looks similar and wore a members only jacket. I was wondering how i would have missed a guy close to Tony being the one that maybe or maybe not killed him

It's in my top 2 personally. I know some rate it lower.

That old bag Melfi? Wait until you see what Meadow turns into when she grows up.

Meadow is gorgeous in the later seasons.

For me, the best show ever made. The depth of the characters, the charisma of James Gandolfini, the sheer quality of the other actors and an amazing story. Oh, and the music...

David Chase just confirmed that Tony was killed in that final scene and they had two ways to kill him off for a few years prior but went with the fade out .

So he's dead

not exactly what he said, he referred to another scene he'd planned to end it with as the "death scene"... but it does suggest the plan was to kill him off without us knowing for sure

Didn't he just a few months ago reveal that Tony was not killed nor did he survive either. Something like it's up to the viewer.

Rewatching it again on Sky at the minute - just into Season Two. Only watched it fully from start to finish last year.

Have to say Christopher's intervention is so hilarious you could show it in isolation to anyone and have them laughing.

Your hair was in the toilet water - disgusting.

I said my piece Chrissy.

You guys are making me watch it again. GOAT

Got one episode left in the first series. I’m hooked so far. I can see why it’s up there with the best so far. I do think some of acting is a bit off though at times by a few of the characters. I really want to read all the comments on the thread but trying to avoid spoilers

Agreed...the sopranos and the wire are 2 of my favorite tv series ever. HBO could do no wrong in those days

Uncle Junior and AJ look the same as they did when the show ended!
AJ yes, but Uncle Junior is at death's door! They better start shooting these follow up Sopranos-related projects quickly or I could see a few more joining Gandolfini soon.
