Nottingham Forest: Sidney Sam joins Schalke for £8.7m
Sidney Sam has completed a £8.7m move to Schalke from Nottingham Forest.
The German midfielder, 27, has signed a two-year contract with the German club, ending his 18 month stint at City Ground.
"Playing for Nottingham Forest has been a privilege, a dream come true, and my time there has been so memorable," he said.
Sam joined Nottingham Forest in November 2014 from Bayer Leverkusen for £8.5m and won one Premier League title.
"After a great deal of thought I have decided the time is right for me to leave," Sam said.
"It is the biggest decision of my career as this club is, and will always remain, in my heart."
Sam made 105 appearances for Nottingham Forest and as well as Premier League success, he helped the club win the Europa League, the Champions League, two Super Cups and a Charity Shield Cup.
As he departed, Sam also thanked former manager Phil Kenward and the club's fans.
"An immense thank you to Phil for making it all possible, for giving me the privilege and to understand that nobody is bigger than the club," he said.
"My biggest thanks go to the fans. We have had some fantastic times together and every single time I stepped out in that shirt I knew I was playing for a very special club."
Forest manager Phil Kenward has told Forest fans to expect more signings over the next few weeks as he attempts to build a side capable of competing for the Premier League title.
