Can confirm, am always complaining about the match engine.

After a fairly long period of doing nothing, RedSky and I (mainly him) are back to working on RM - or at least the player rating review part. I don't think you're in the conversation, Gaz, but I can invite you, you can read up and along with everyone else can knock around a few suggestions as to what you'd like to see in it (particularly league creation bit) and stick with SM. It'll take your mind off the bullshit a bit. Things I'm thinking of that SM currently doesn't have:
  • option for automatic draft system
  • if team becomes managerless, option to have AI assistant manager put in so team can't be raided.
  • FFP, either like we have or custom rules
  • player squad numbers!
 
I have no idea how SM does their match engine. All I can do is describe how ours will work and hopefully you'll see that despite it being fairly RNG (it has to be) there are very strict rules in place that will reward teams with ultimately the better players.

For a start each Club has a morale system, which has an effect on match results as well as transfers.

Better players should have a higher chance of scoring/saving/blocking/passing however it works now again true. Also, i suggested counter-tactics back when i was doing the formations. I believe that would make it a very interesting match engine. For example; a team playing the 4-3-3 gets a boost when facing a 4-2-3-1 etc. Dunno what kind of boost would be possible but maybe 2 more match events or something, we can discuss what is possible. That would keep people interested, trying to predict how your oppo will play to get you that advantage. Would give smaller teams a chance against bigger teams and vice versa, the bigger teams gets a bigger chance of getting their "deserved" win. You'd need a "rotation system" in regards to the counter-tactics so the patterns change every season/half a season.
