The Sir Alex Ferguson Stand

From the BBC:

25 years ago today, when Alex Ferguson took over at Manchester United the bottom 4 clubs were Chelsea, Man united, Newcastle United, and Man City. The top 4 today? The same.

Thats fantastic. Don't think there is anybody in the world that can really deny that he deserves this. Just like that he is there to enjoy it too.

Lindegaard: "I'd be thrilled to have just one seat out there named Anders Lindegaard."

Wonder in what pose the Fergie statue will be in. Hope he's chewing gum..

Glad about the Fergie Stand - which is how I'll be referring to it. The Sir Alex Ferguson Stand is too much of a mouthful :nervous:

Where have we moved the lettering for OLD TRAFFORD, MANCHESTER?

I loved that, let's get the south stand renovated and put it up also.

Anyway, The Sir Alex Ferguson stand and Statue is about the greatest thing ever. Immensely happy.

Sir Alex about the 'Sir Alex Ferguson stand': "Mick Phelan knew about it but he didn't tell me. So he's sacked, he's out the door!"

I must say though. I do hope they move the "Old Trafford Manchester" sign to the east stand, iconic part of the stadium.

Jesus, I was in a quadrant, didn't even know they'd done that.

Absolute class, and totally deserved.

I love the fact he knew nothing about it.

Brought me to tears. Something that even the Pursuit of Happyness movie didn't do.

Great man. And I simply cannot wait for the statue.

Whilst we sit here praising the club for the gesture and the man himself for everything he's brought us as fans of this club. May I suggest that when we re-develop the South Stand to equal that of the SAF stand, that that becomes the Sir Matt Busby Stand.

We've already got the Stretford End, and the Scoreboard End (though with scoreboards around the ground that's now a redundent title), so perhaps Warwick Road Stand as a nod to the orginal title of Sir Matt Busby Way. I don't care really as long as we get a SMB stand.

You're absolutely right mate. There has to be a doubt as to whether the South Stand will ever be re-developed at all, but your point stand about Sir Matt.

Well deserved

The man will forever go down as the greatest Manager of all time.

I think you're to get a name change too mate :D

I liked the way both teams formed a guard of honor to welcome SAF onto the pitch. When the name of the stand was announced he looked really surprised and genuinely moved (on Sky News).

I'd scrap a statue and have the artists who designed the Olympic posters paint something simplistically abstract and obscure, like a single orange blot in the middle of 17 star shaped potato prints, to represent the chaotic beauty of his essence.

But also with a performance by an interpretive dance group.
Like this:

(1:20 onwards is pure gold)

]They should erect a statue of Sven-Goran Eriksson. Sort of like a "Here's what you could have won".

They should rename the stand to 'I knocked Liverpool off their fecking perch'

Is that it? A poxy stand?

The whole city should be named after him.

Was at the game today, can't see the North (now Sir Alex) stand from where I sit... when David Gill made him turn round to look at it, Sir Alex almost lost it, there was definitely a tremor in his voice - brilliant that they managed to keep it from him and put the sign up without him knowing :D
