The Shock of Lightning & Dig Out Your Soul

As a matter of interest, has anyone who's downloaded the album genuinely plan to buy it aswell? I am. I have every other Oasis CD, and I don't wanna miss one. I don't feel guilty about stealing from millionaires though. :D

They were my favourite band years ago. Loved the first two albums. Everything else was pretty poor. This is no exception.

I had a ticket to see Oasis years ago but couldn't go. Just got tickets to see them in December. :D

No 12 minute Champagne Supernovas though please!

The whole album's up on their myspace to listen to, myspace.com/oasis quite predictably. Sounds good from what I've heard so far.

I received the Box Set today and first impressions are that it's absolutely quality.

I've listened to the album more now too, and the more I hear it the more I like it. I wouldn't bother reading much into the critical reviews, because the ones I've read hold the view that I did when I first heard it, i.e they weren't doing their job properly and gave it a quick listen before writing about it.

This album is growing on me now. Listened to it a couple of times since my initial (And wrong) review a while back. Definitely a grower, and some fantastic songs too.

And Redlambs you'll be glad to know I bought the album in addition to the Illegal Download:D

listened to the album a few time illegally, didn't have time to head into town to pick up a proper copy yet but will do. I think the album is quality, alot of energy in the record. Bag it up is a good song, as is Falling down.

Oasis back to doing what they do best

The album's great. I don't care if it's not original or as good as the first two, it's still better than 90% of the stuff out there today. Shame my gf is at the gig now and not me!

Yes, me, I don't date women with balls.

Her mate got her the tickets (sitting) while I was away. They'll do Manchester surely though.

Yeah I saw that but I figured they'd add it at a later date anyway. Once they get the show perfected!

Nope. You?

Uh oh, ok I'm a fan, you can't not be, but I don't worship the ground she walks on or anything.

Ahem.

They used to be awesome live, seen them loads. I avoided it during Starky's drumming era though, because from reports of trusted friends they sounded too lightweight (constant symbol bashing, Noel's guitar sounding shit).

I might score tickets to see them now though, this album should be rocking live.

BTW Elvis, the box is quality if you can muster up the cash for one.

Who's their drummer now, anyone know?

Seeing them in a 'kin basketball arena in December. The sound WILL be appalling.

Having listened to the album, I can only say; boring. It's fine, but I know I won't be listening to this in a week, never mind years down the line like Definitely Maybe.

A guy called Chris Sharrock. He was The La's drummer, im fairly sure.

Only did a couple of sessions for the La's, but he was the drummer that did 'There She goes'. He's been playing for Fat lad Williams for years

I've only had one listen and my assessment is that it's ok. But that's often my assessment on first listen of any album.

I don't say it's easy reviewing albums, but how many plays do you give a song/album? I realise they go into a lot more depth when listening but surely there are reviews that later the reviewer regrets because it's grown on them. Genuinely don't know how it's done, all I know is it takes me a while to get into stuff.

Well most of the reviews I've read/heard pretty much go in line with what I thought on the very first hearing.

Drawn out, half-arsed and lack of quality hitters.

After a few more listens though, I'm drawn in to it more. I'm liking the overall dirtier sound of the album and it does actually flow really well. It's not their best effort, but other than the latest Kings of Leon album (and still not sure on Metallica's new one yet), there's nothing produced in the past 18months that is any better IMO.

I think reviewers these days (goes for video games too) are far too sloppy and opinionated. They should be as partial as possible, but they are not. A listen or two and the review is written. This is why I don't pay any attention to them, as they are mostly just idiots with a job they don't take as serious as they should.

Indeed.

I'm really enjoying this album now.

Noel being Noel, has an interview on the BBC website, which claims they are planning a "Supergig" in Manchester. No more info than that given.

I'd say it was derivative, tired, cliched and soulless. But then I've always thought that about Oasis.
So I'll leave the Oasis fans to enjoy it instead ;)

Ting Tings, Reverend & Makers, The Last Shadow Puppets, Kooks and Kanye West have all produced better albums, based on my first two listens of Oasis' album. I'm no Coldplay fan but many might put that in there too, along with others. But I'm still reviewing it so I'm not slagging it off just yet.

I'd say if you have to listen to an album, think those things and then post on here about it, you are all four too.

:smirk:

Hey! I may be derivative, tired and cliched - but I am in no way soulless!
And seeing as everyone else has listened to an album, and is posting on here saying how good/mediocre/disappointing the album is... I might as well join in - I mean everyone else is
