Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

I like Ghost rider, Dog eat Dog is far worse.
I liked these both!

The Bye Bye Man

Three friends stumble upon the horrific origins of a mysterious figure they discover is the root cause of the evil behind unspeakable acts.

I was recommended this has being scary, but I was massively disappointed.
Just another , don't say the name films , Candy Man did it better.
It was not awful, but could have been done better.

4/10
I thought this is the worst film i seen this year by a mile

The Fourth Man & Basic Instinct - Verhoeven really mastered the erotic thriller, brilliant stuff. Shits all over everything "Hitchcockian" Brian De Palma has ever done. Dorothy Malone popping up in small role in BI was a nice touch.

Crikey, you only just got round to Basic Instinct? That was a teen staple in the pre-widespread internet days.

I vaguely recall watching it when I was younger, so I had kinda ticked it off as film I had already seen despite not really remembering much about it except for that scene. I'm glad I finally got round watching it for real as an adult.

It's very Verhoeven with Douglas seedy and Stone's femme fatale. It's an entertaining enough watch tbf.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

I have put off watching this for a while because I knew it would be sad, but my 12 year old son told me I had to watch it.
OMG what a sad film, forget about the Germans all having perfect English accents, the acting of the 2 boys was just perfect, the ending is one of the saddest things I have ever watched.
I am not ashamed to say I am sat in tears.
This deserves nothing less than

10/10

Fate of the furious (8): I actually thought it was better than the last one. Look, going into this movie you know what you are going to get. Is it way over the top and cheesy as feck? Absolutely, but I was entrained throughout and that's what this movie sets out to do and it works. 8/10

The Caretaker

A young woman returns home to care for her gravely ill grandmother, only to begin sleepwalking, envisioning spirits and uncovering dark secrets in her family's past.
Had its moments but not many,What started nicely, with a good premise, an used subject but still a scary and effective one yet today, managed to reach none of its potential and simply got confused and annoying.

Encounter

A newlywed couple Ted and Lauren rent and old farm house to do a thesis on orbs and set up cameras, Strange ghostly noises and hauntings occur at night. Ted sees video of Lauren, possessed and wandering the fields at night. When their roommate kills himself they decide to do a séance to see what is haunting the house. Little do they know what they hear and fear is nothing they can pray away.
This is just dreadful, I don't like found footage has a rule and this did nothing to change that.

1.5/10

The Autopsy of Jane Doe is a very decent stripped down horror film. It sets itself up nicely with a few well drawn characters, great art design and some good creeping suspense. The abrupt turn into creature feature territory in the second half is slightly jarring but it just about holds itself together. And it's all wrapped up before you have a chance to check your watch. Good stuff.

Films should get more praise for managing to keep their running time to a suitable length. It seems to be such a rare skill these days. 9/10 for the running time.

It was ok i though. (Jane doe autopsy)

Better than the usual horror crap of late.

6/10 for me.

The same night watched "Don't breath" and i liked that one the most. 7/10

Please tell me someone else has seen Lady Macbeth so that we can have a discussion on if it possibly contains one of the most morally disgusting scenes in cinema?

Hell or High Water. Good Texas-noir genre fare. It's a fairly broad tale, with the standard hints towards the grievances of the Old West and the failed dreams of the new. The charcters and setting are kind of stock but well realised nonetheless. Written by the guy who wrote Sicario so it's efficient without being particularly insightful. The acting is solid and there are a few good set pieces. Scored by Cave and Ellis, so if nothing else... I liked it though.

Duel in the Sun - A real sap fest. It's like they set out to make another Gone With the Wind and realized as they went along that it wasn't really any good and couldn't be arsed afterwards. Jennifer Jones' acting was just as terrible as her character, Joe Cotton was trapped in another film and Gregory Peck played against type quite spectacularly badly as the villain. He did tame a horse by biting it's ear, which was the highlight of the movie for me, that and the lovely technicolor backdrops.

Flesh for Frankenstein
- Fairly atrocious, with half-assed pretensions and annoying performances, not sure who thought I'd be a good idea to let Udo Kier shout all of his lines throughout the film. I expected more camp value.

Blue Spring - I like it more and more the more I think about it. Really nice muted colors, bleak manga sensibilities, was a bit similar to Akira in a few ways, also very punk, punky, or however you put it.

Your Name. - I'm way to cynical to be fully smitten by Shinkai's twinkling cheese but it had some really arresting scenes and fresh takes on old concepts. I read that the production ran out of money and that he felt it was a bit incomplete and I agree with that, felt a bit disjointed.

I don't think I've ever heard of any film you review. I'm such a simpleton

I hardly recognize any movies you or pauldy review either, to be honest!

I thought Flesh for Frankenstein would be a quite familiar name for a horror aficionado?

Your Name is the 8th highest grossing animated film of all time.

Haha trust me that's a good thing you don't recognise the films we review, they are made for us and us only!

Flesh for Frankenstein is now on my list! Actually i have heard of Your Name, must give that a watch.

Some of the films I watch , I wish I did not know them.
Never heard of Flesh for Frankenstein, but it is on my list now.

Has anyone seen the movie Toni Erdmann?
I hear it's brilliant but the trailer is pretty boring.

Mongolian Death Worm

When an American oil company sets up an experimental drilling plant out in the vast deserts of Mongolia, they awaken a nest. The deadly creatures begin to breed and spread, devouring everyone in their path.
Saw this on the Horror Channel, so was not expecting anything good, but it was not quite as has as I expected.
It has giant man eating worms, that did not look scary , the acting was way over the top and you had somebody looking for long lost gold.
Not good but not dreadful , I have seen worse.

3/10

:lol:I'm imagining that your expectations were extremely low.

They were be honest, films like this on the Horror Channel are never very good.
Agreed. I've not watched anything on there for ages- half of them are so low budget they seem more like student film projects.

The Promise (2016)

You won't want to see this if you are Turkish. Tragic story of the 1914 massacre of Armenians by the Turks. At the centre is a fictitious love triangle unfolding in the face of true events. Well made with a few star names plus a lot of obscure foreign actors. It is unabashedly putting forward the Armenian side of the story. 7.5

What is this 'morally disgusting scene'?

Is it based on an incident Shakespeare wrote, chief?
