Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

There Will be Blood

Me: Daniel Day Lewis is amazing. Just immerses you in the character. It's the 2nd time I've seen it, and it is definitely a bit odd at points. But I think it's a brilliantly directed drama, and there are a lot of untold depths to the relationship with his son. 9/10

The Wife:
Didn't like any of the characters, too many things missing that would've helped make sense of it all. Worst soundtrack ever (she's getting it in her Christmas stocking) 2/10 barely.

One of us is wrong. It's usually me.

Cell - garbage
Jason Bourne - dull
Hunt for the Wilderpeople - nice fun
Source Code - excellent

Source Code is a fantastic movie I agree. The exchange between Goodwin and Colter :
Colter ''Are you Married?
Goodwin ''Why are you asking me on a date?'' is one of many memorable moments.....:)

You mean the green fire?? I actually forgot about that from the first time I saw it, but I thought it worked well, as a special effect to light the fields with fire in the dark. I guess, you didn't like it?
Honestly I'm not too sure about it. I think the biggest problem(and it's mainly my fault)was that this was the first time I'd seen tracer ammunition used by WW2 tanks, so it just looked really bizarre. Had I known before it might of helped, instead of now where everything time I think back to the film, it's all about the laser tanks well that and Brad Pitt's hair.

But overall I thought it was decent film(Actual thought some of the deleted scene's where better than the one's that made the final cut).

I'm afraid she's right again.

Haven't seen the deleted scenes - will look into it!

it was DDL's hammy overacting that I hated.

A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket are showing on a big screen near me tonight. I haven't seen either in a while. Worth it, or should I see Hell or High Water?

Hell of High Water is decent but nowhere near as good as the hype suggests. Still a far better film than the other two IMO - both of which I don't like at all. The first half of FMJ is great but the second half is rubbish. Almost 2 different films.

Oh god, they appear to have remade Dad's bloody Army as a film. Sky Prem is going to be shit for yet another week.

I watched it with a due sense of dread and unbelievably it was even worse than I feared. Truly terrible.

The story is kinda all over the place. Definitely Agree with her on that front.

Adjusting for Wibble scale, it must be the greatest film ever made. I'm seeing it tomorrow night.

Sadly no. I had high expectations due to the reviews so that might be part of it being a bit disappointing but it really wasn't as great as I hoped. Well worth a watch mind.

Seriously? He might as well been wearing a t shirt "I am an serious Actooooor". I like DDL but he was terrible in that.

I saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them - Eddie Redmayne, Colin Farrell and Katherin Waterston are good, but David Yates is just not a top quality, innovative film maker for a movie like this. Of course, a movie about the Harry Potter universe will make money at the box office so they won't really try hard. But it could have been much better. The screenplay seemed a bit jumbled and the movie wasn't smooth to watch. The cast were good though. Colin Farrell is such a good actor.

That soundtrack would've won best original score of the year had it not sampled a bit of Greenwood's work on another soundtrack.

Nah, it was way too idiosyncratic to win anything. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis should have won it that year but in order to get a nomination you have to subscribe to the bland recycling virtuosity of the likes of Zimmer, Desplat, Williams, Newman, Elfman and so forth.

What had they done that year? Was it Jesse James?

Crikey, I wouldn't think that is possible.

The actors manage to capture enough of the characters. The problem is that they neither do something new and entertaining with them nor go all out for a nostalgia fest. Just crap.

Bit of a tough gig I guess, given the characters are so ingrained with the bloody programme having run solidly on TV for 50 years. They could've made one black or gay to get the DM in a lather for a laugh, I guess.

Has anyone seen The Great Dictator here? If so, would they recommend it?
