Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Escape from New York! Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, well worth a watch if you haven't seen it
I recognised your username from that film right away. I haven't seen that film in ages but I remember enjoying it at the time.

Kurt did a nice Clint impression but aside from that Escape From New York just seemed like a lot of pointless running around to me.

Except this movie subverted many of those cliches, including Anna's love interest.

Fυck off, they were amazing. Let It Go, Do You Wanna Build A Snowman, Love Is An Open Door, For The First Time In Forever...

Rubbish. The characters in Frozen had a lot more foibles, sarcasm and idiosyncrasies than one notes like Aladdin, The Beast, Snow White, etc.

Except in most Disney films, the Prince would have been a good guy and the movie would have ended with them living happily ever after.

Your standards are about as high as the Duke of Weselton.
It's unwatchable gash.

Biggest grossing animation ever disagrees with you.
Yeah but Titanic was once the biggest grossing movie and it is dull and aimed at young girls too. Just hate the hackneyed characters, particularly the brown haired lass who is a klutz and trips over every third step. Had to leave the room about 20 minutes in because it was driving me insane.

Sub-zero is a better ice-wielding character imo.

I've been binging on Disney the last couple of days. Other than The Lion King and The Little Mermaid, nothing comes close to Frozen. I have no idea how Beauty And The Beast was so highly rated, fwiw. It's one of the most cliched movies I've ever seen.

Oh, and Frozen is not just the biggest grossing animation of all time. It's also the fifth highest grossing movie of any kind.

Try watching a bit longer than that, mate. She was only tripping over during the initial Prince scene.

Sub-zero couldn't sing. It's an unfair comparison.

My house is frozen mad, I can't escape it, the house might as well have a fecking Disney copywrite on the front door.
We've got books, sticker books, DVDs, CDs, nighties, pyjamas, more than one pair, dolls, lots of dolls, cups, bags, lunch box, t shirts, dresses.
The main present, all my 3 year old wanted, was an Elsa dress, cape and gloves. The only reason we could've got her out of it was that we had frozen pyjamas. The marketing on the film has been unbelievable, and our house will be full of trash in 2 years!!

The Lion King 9/10
The Little Mermaid 8/10
Tangled 7/10
The Raid 2 9/10
Beauty And The Beast 2/10
Not sure I can face another attempt at Frozen although I am clearly not its target audience.

Interesting to hear Raid 2 is good though. Watched the first one again the other night and had forgotten how entertaining it is. You certainly have varied taste, I'll give you that.

Same here.

How did Jeremy Renner ever rise to prominence? He has such a punchable face.

I just watched Fury. It is very good. 8/10. Really quite violent and some very good acting. I love war films so it was a perfect watch tonight.

You surely must be Rosie O'Donnell in disguise.

That fkin snowman....

Wreck-it Ralph

Loved it. Better than Frozen for me. Toy Story esque imagination, moving, funny and well-voiced with some serious gaming nostalgia. Highly recommended and criminally overlooked. 9/10

better music and good characters which weren't a complete cliche more than 20 years ago.
The music is far too twee. At least the songs in Frozen are aware of how camp they are. Plus, some of cross-referencing is really clever.

The characters in Beauty and the Beast are completely 2-dimensional (no pun intended). I don't believe for a second that those cliches have only developed in the last two decades.

Saw frozen for the first time yesterday. It was ok

But Beauty and the beast is twice the movie. No contest

Oh we're rating out of 4 now?! The Interview - 1/4 not even that funny when high (I imagine).
What happened to the poison plaster on Seth Rogans hand?

Just watched 'Gone Girl'. Best film I've seen since I watched 'The Nightcrawler' last week. In all seriousness, was some performance from Rosamund Pike, and generally very gripping.

I'd recommend it is placed on everyone's respective Christmas movie binge list.

Gone Girl, I think it would have been a good film if it had ended 30mins sooner. It really drags on toward the end. 2/4.

Maps to the Stars aka 'Cronenberg does Entourage'. I enjoyed it, but mostly just for admiring the actors and their caricatured characters. Julianne Moore is especially brilliant, and I love Mia Wasikowska so much I've learned how to spell her name. Sarah Gadon also steals every scene she's in, one to look out for in the future (she's great in Enemy as well). Not Cronenberg at his very best, but if you like a combination of him, films set in Hollywood, Moore/ Wasikowska/ Cusack, and the idea of a terrifying Bieber-esque brat, you'll love this. 8/10
