Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

97 Minutes

A ticking clock scenario unfolds as a hijacked 767 airplane faces imminent disaster when its fuel supply dwindles, with just 97 minutes remaining.
Iam a sucker for this type of film, but in reality, this film just sucked.
I was hoping that Alex Baldwin would make it half decent, but sadly not.

2/10
Sounds like passenger 57 but worse. Much worse.

2025 Armageddon

A militant alien race launches an attack on Earth using gigantic creatures and geological disasters all based on those found on The Asylum's Movie Channel signal which reached their planet.
This is The Asylum taking the piss out of themselves.
Has Asylum films go, this was not dreadful, the acting and writing were OK.

5/10

You had me at "militant alien race".

Fantastic Mr Fox

I can admire the effort and time it took to make but it’s really just a load of nerd wank. Give me the revolutionary socialism of Chicken Run anyway day.

Jurassic World 63: dominion
This why I never let my wife pick a movie for movie night. Funny they signed Hasenhüttle to play the bad guy though.

Lust Stories 2

Bollywood anthology movie with 4 segments about sex, relationships and how it filters through on India. I remember seeing the first one and thought it was good. This one was awful other than the last story. Last story had a wicked twist in a dark tale. Worth a watch if you’ve seen the first one and enjoyed the tales but otherwise I’d give it a miss. 4/10

Aliens 1986

They should just remake this shot for shot with better technology. Abit outdated but considering it's close to 40 years ago I still think it's still watchable.

Ripley is badass
Good luck getting a cast for it. Theres a consistency to the look that makes it timeless for me and prettier than films with the advantage of technology. At best it'd be Psycho and redundant at worst it'd be one more shitty alien retread.
Leave the good parts of the series alone.

If the director got full power finding an actress that could play Ripley isnt that impossible.

Rebecca Ferguson, Jessica Chastain, I think asian aside and age aside Michelle Yeoh can do the job.

Just no wokeism and feminist power and pick an actress who's a proper actress.

The supporting cast is easy. Most of them ate loud mouthed GI, cardboard bad dude, and a likeable android.

The new alien sucks because they try to be sophisticated too much for their sake

I misread it as Alien. Trying to recast that would be the stuff of nightmares. Aliens would be easier.

The first alien are boring i think. It was marvell in its time but i think been there seen it I'm not too keen on seeing the remake.

Aliens for me is fun for the action part, all guns ablazing and running for your dear life and making the payback

The Rental
Two couples go to a remote house for vacation but soon suspect they are being watched. Didn't know this at the time but it was directed by Dave Franco and written by Joe Swanberg. I really enjoyed the first two thirds of this movie, built up suspense well, especially the drama between the four characters, it was very tense. Them being watched was a background distraction and just added to the overall fragile relationships between these characters but the final third doesn't allow any of the drama setups to pay off and instead just went into silly slasher territory, which was a shame 6/10

7500

About a plane that was hijacked by 3 terrorist with weapons such as..a glass shard or some small blade. With 80 fecking passengers on board. They can’t even get into the cockpit so they just wait outside till they get lucky with some leverage. Feck right off. Those 3 would be dead in seconds if that’s all they had. 80 fecking bitches more like.

Shite/10

I think only the famous table scene looks outdated (baby alien running across it) and would actually not be against a digital enhancement that would fix this one thing - other than that I agree that it‘s totally timeless, visuals included.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Fun and more heart than previous films. Great 70s to 90s soundtrack but very very long at 2.5 hours. 7/10

Thats fair enough that one bit does look ropy. I think sometimes in older movies you'll let your imagination fill in the blanks and it just works. I think a cgi alien running across the table would just stand out a mile in its own way to be honest.
Maybe i just like physical effects and will be a bit more forgiving in general too.

Punishment Park

Decent 70s protest movie filmed as a documentary about an increasingly fascist US offering prisoners sentenced on trumped up security charges the opportunity to spend a few days in punishment park rather than the overflowing prisons. It's a more a vehicle to debate morality, war, racism, freedoms and so forth, done through the flashbacks of the authoritarian tribunals questioning the prisoners, but it's engaging, if quite dated. Must admit being a horror fan I was expecting the punishment park to be an ultra-violent gorefest, but it is more sedate. Some impressive facial hair as a bonus.

6.5/10

Violent Night
Santa has to save a family being held captive by mercenaries... Violence ensues. Not great. I thought this would be a super fun and violent movie but it was a run of the mill action flick with Santa as the protagonist. And even then, he wasn't as interesting or funny as Billy Bob was in Bad Santa. Disappointed 4/10

Gran Turismo

Boy what a movie, I honestly don't know how the real story goes so it's kinda a joyride to me not knowing how it ends. Warm, excitement, Cinderella story, cool cars and for once a teen actor (or playing a teen) that wasn't a snob pain the arse, very likeable lead cast you can relate with.

I'd give it an 8/10 for entertainment

Whoever thought a film based on Gran Turismo can actually be good... And it seems from what I'm reading that it actually is.

Then makes your wonder how narrative adaptations like Assassin's Creed and the like we're awful.

To be fair, it wasn't that pretentious... they never pushes too much on the game aspect just that it was a simulator, more than just a game. But they understood the absurdity of their own project, which is refreshing.

If this wasn't based on a true story I'd laugh them off the park, from couch potato to professional racer.

It's just refreshing to see simple things done well.
