Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Thin red line any good? Looked at the cast and it's crazy. So I'm definitely watching it later. Hope it's more like Hasksaw or Ryan and less like Dunkirk

People seem to love or hate it. I though it was terrible and dull but others will disagree. Probably even more dull than Dunkirk imo.

Crap. Oh well. I'll probably find something else. Might still check it out. Need a war movie hah

Nobody Sleeps In The Woods Tonight
A group of campers in a trip to cleanse from their addiction to technology find themselves being stalked by two deformed cannibals. Nice practical effects and lots of gore of your into that. Otherwise, it was boring, not funny in the slightest, flat characters, plot foreshadowing that doesn't pay off etc. Not a good movie at all 2/10

A Street Cat Named Bob

True story about a busker/drug addict whose life changes when he meets a stray cat. I enjoyed it. 7/10

Tried watching it today but the phone kept lagging on the tv. Might just try and find a cheap dvd in cex. Definitely want to watch it.
The way I remember it it's definitely not like Hacksaw Ridge or Saving Private Ryan.

The Special

Suspecting his wife of infidelity, Jerry follows his friend down a dark rabbit hole into a horror landscape of addiction.
It was decent enough, basically a story of man addicted to something and makes stupid decisions to carry it on, the ending was strange to say the least !

6/10

I thought Tenet was great fun, but also kinda bad. If you took it too seriously I don't think you'd enjoy it.

Arthur C Clarke would call this fantasy and not Sci-Fi I reckon, as it's surely not based on any plausible science

the comic-book character bad guy's motivations for doing it all were hilariously silly

Denzel's son is really good though

The Dark and the Wicked

On a secluded farm in a nondescript rural town, a man is slowly dying. His family gathers to mourn, and soon a darkness grows, marked by waking nightmares and a growing sense that something evil is taking over the family.
WTF have I just watched, it was batshit crazy, I could not make head nor tail of it.

2/10

The lack of any kind of explanation was pretty annoying and weak. Thought it was ok despite that.

Alone

US remake of a Korean film.
When an outbreak hits, Aidan barricades himself inside his apartment and starts rationing food. His complex is overrun by infected Screamers, and with the world falling apart into chaos, he is left completely alone fighting for his life.
I though this was watchable , nothing special , will have to watch the original one now.

5/10

Just watched The Gentlemen

Guy Ritchie back on song. Brilliant fun, McConaughey was really good and a convincing badass and Hugh Grant was very very watchable.

8/10

A really strong hour stretched out into almost three, but still definitely worth watching.....once

It is very good. Probably Malicks last good film. The tree of life was too long i felt. His films after the tree of life have been poor.

I loved Thin Red Line but it was way too long for my tastes, had to watch it in three sittings

Hitman
The plot was stupid, the action was boring, the characters made no sense, the dialogue was awful, the plot twists made it worse. 1/10

On wiki, it says it has a reboot with an even lower score on rotten tomatoes. That's an achievement.
None of these Bourne ripoffs are a patch on the real thing.

As in you thought he was good or that he's Denzel's son? Cause he is actually his son!

Holy shit!

I even read his name and thought his voice reminded me of Denzel, but didn't realise he is his son.

I really didn’t expect anything from this film. But put it on in the background, and actually enjoyed it. Richie playing to his strengths, enjoyable film. Wouldn’t quite rate it as high as you, a solid 6.5-7/10.

makes me wonder how well Lock Stock and Snatch hold up? Watched them to death years ago, but probably not seen either for at least 10 years.

I loved it, great fun.

Lock Stock and Snatch still hold up pretty well if you liked them back in the day. Still some great performances in them. They were so fresh back then.

I actually found The Gentlemen hard to fault really.

will have to check them out again, they are the sort of film I can watch with my other half, and I’ll be quoting 1/2 the words and annoying the hell out of her, even though not seen for so long.

Don't Listen
Netflix Spanish horror film about a family who move into a house and voices make anyone who enters the house do terrible things. Had some really gory scenes (done effectively, not just for shock) and the ending was harrowing. It built up suspense really well in the scares scenes and the drama between the family was nicely done. The jump scares were too telegraphed and I wish the film didn't have those. It did nothing too new and I hope it tried to push boundaries a little bit 6.5/10

It is very good. Probably Malicks last good film. The tree of life was too long i felt. His films after the tree of life have been poor.

Disagree, 'The New World' is incredible and 'A Hidden Life' was a great return to form, after a few misfires.

The Ninth Gate (1999)

A thoroughly unscrupulous book dealer is sent on a quest to authenticate a rare book and gets drawn into a conspiracy with dark overtones.

Wojciech Kilar's classic score sets the tone, and the ominous atmosphere created pulls you in.

There's some beautiful sets; wonderful cinematography; an engrossing story; eclectic characters and low profanity.

I enjoyed following the journey around Europe, connecting the dots, wondering what is going to happen next in Corso's quest to figure out the hidden message.

They don't make movies like this anymore. If you're after a dark, occultic thriller that doesn't rely on action or cgi for cheap thrills, then you should give this film a watch.

9/10

Agreed - thought it was excellent

It's a wonderful film. It's closer to Apocalypse Now than those you've cited, though Malick is quite unique so it's hard to draw too many parallels with others.

The New World is pretty perfect I felt. I haven't watched A hidden life, which looks promising, but I agree that trio of quickly released ones (To the wonder, Knight of cups and Song to Song) were all poor and shallow. His next project seems interesting.

Redemption (2013):
Imagine messing up a Jason Statham revenge story. Ideas above its station. 3/10.

Gemini (2018):
Nice movie about an assistant's relationship with a movie star. Very nicely shot, and quite tense. 8/10.

Please stand by (2017):
Road trip movie about an autistic girl and her connection with Star Trek. I watched it since the description said Trek, and they used that well to advance the plot and her character. 6.5/10.

Children of men:
According to reviews online, the action scenes are great, but my internet was bad and everything was 480p. 9/10.
