Gaming The RedCafe General/Random Gaming Chat Thread

So what are people moaning about? Just don't drop their money on it, pretty simple.

Also it's our on EA Access I think?
It is, but it doesn't release in the shops until tomorrow.

And of course people are going to complain about it, FFS.

If you don't understand why then this isn't the thread for you.

It's about 15 quid new. Another victim of the Bethesda review policy. Shame as, like Dishonored 2, it's a good game.

Making games great comes from regular tuning. As one example, today we’re making a substantial change based on what we’ve seen during the Play First trial. There’s been a lot of discussion around the amount of in-game credits (and time) it takes to unlock some of our heroes, especially Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.

Unlocking a hero is a great accomplishment in the game, something we want players to have fun earning. We used data from the beta to help set those levels, but it’s clear that more changes were needed.

So, we’re reducing the amount of credits needed to unlock the top heroes by 75%. Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader will now be available for 15,000 credits; Emperor Palpatine, Chewbacca, and Leia Organa for 10,000 credits; and Iden at 5,000 credits.

Based on what we’ve seen in the trial, this amount will make earning these heroes an achievement, but one that will be accessible for all players.

We’ve also been listening to how much you’re loving features in the game (Starfighter Assault, 40 player MP battles, Darth Maul lightsaber throws, etc.) as well as what you haven’t liked. We know some of our most passionate fans, including those in our subreddit, have voiced their opinions, and we hear you. We’re making the changes to the credit levels for unlocking heroes and we’re going to keep making changes to improve the game experience over time. We welcome the conversation.

And that is why people complain. Occasionally it works. I'm still not buying it.

Yeah... I doubt there's any chance my PC could run it

I'll get it on the PS4 whenever I get one of those.
If you were able to run Deus Ex, you'll probably be able to run this too. My laptop is a piece of shit aswell and it runs much smoother than Deus Ex HR.

Not like it needed clarification, but CDPR clear the air on rumours about Cyberpunk 2077 succumbing to microtransaction kerfuffle.

Good.

In unrelated news, The Surge is kicking my ass. Two bosses down and around 13 hours in.

Worth playing?

Had a years worth of EA access for xmas last year, quite like being able to play their new games for 10 hours.
Gameplay wise, it's a lot of fun although I've noticed a couple of wallet warriors with full purple starcards. Considering how rare blues appear to be..
Overall the progression system is worse than I thought, most certainly the worst I've ever seen in an AAA game.
I also don't believe this was anyone other than EA's decision to put in.
Need for Speed had a practically identical system.
Might just use the trial to finish the story, saves me having to buy it.

EA have now changed the micro transactions to NFS payback. Seems they either learning their lesson or waiting for sales to boost so that they can put them back in. I’d go for latter.

They’ve also dropped the price 40% on the game. I have the EA Access so was playing the trial and it pulled me in. I’d read reviews that some of the races are almost impossible if your car doesn’t match up and I have to agree even if your car is slightly better, one tiny tiny tiny mistake and you’re done you have no hope. You have to be perfect pretty much. Also having been playing Forza a lot recently well hitting apexes and racing lines and being smooth ain’t really much help. Learn to drift and nitro during your drifts and like Mario kart on the 64 you get a little boost out of corners. So just flat out, throw it in and hope it sticks seems to be the best advice.

There is something satisfying about chaining and nailing a few drifts together.

French ministers are looking at loot boxes. Belgium are looking to get them banned in the whole of Europe.

I wonder what this means for something like Ultimate team as that has been going on for nearly a decade and it’s basically a loot box even though you guaranteed to get something.

I don’t think it will have too much impact on something like GTA V. As obviously with a cash card you get what you buy. With a pack or loot box there is some form of gambling. The argument that this happens with sticker cards or whatever doesn’t wash with me.

This is an outcome many saw coming, just one that we never expected to happen so quickly. With the fiasco surrounding Battlefront II and microtransactions, people were hoping some type of regulation would be coming for loot boxes. Whether or not you agree they are a form of gambling, as far as Belgium is concerned, these predatory tactics are going to officially be classified as such.

Last week, we reported on how the Belgium Gaming Commission was launching an investigation into whether or not loot boxes constituted as a form of digital gambling. In the words of the Commission's director, Peter Naessens, "If there is a game of chance, it is not possible without a permit from the Gaming Commission." Guess what conclusion they came to.

"The mixing of money and addiction is gambling," the translated VTM News article concludes. "Mixing gambling and gaming, especially at a young age, is dangerous for the mental health of the child," said Belgium's Minister of Justice Koen Geens. Reportedly, Geens' ultimate goal would be to ban these types of in-game purchases in their entirety and not even solely in Belgium. "We will certainly try to ban it," Geens declares.

I can't say I disagree with that sentiment, either. I certainly understand that making entertainment is a job and not everything is created with some artistic merit, but to turn each product into a glorified slot machine has never sat well with me. I don't enjoy gambling specifically because of how random it feels, so purposely gating content behind randomized drops has rubbed me the wrong way since the first time I saw it in a game.

Whatever the ultimate outcome, at least one government fully recognizes how ludicrous the concept of a loot box is. Even if it never becomes an official law, hopefully publishers learn their lesson and we won't see them shifting into a different business model with which to nickel and dime customers.

Excellent. Though I'm not sure why EA have been reamed out while Activision seem to be getting a free pass for the CoD supply drops (they've just introduced weapons to them).

EA UFC 3's premier multiplayer mode Ultimate Team is shaping up to completely revolve around its pay-to-win microtransactions, with the publisher seemingly set to wade into yet another controversy regarding its use of microtransactions.

Ultimate Team is a game type that EA uses across many of its various sports franchises, with it tasking players with building a team using cards that represent their real-world counterparts. While there has always been an element of paying real cash to get better players in these modes, with them being tucked inside randomized packs akin to loot boxes, they've typically remained thoroughly playable regardless of whether or not you've invested cash into them. UFC 3 changes that, making the game mode so reliant upon opening packs that, judging from its closed beta, it's incredibly difficult to imagine players being able to succeed in it without spending money.

UFC 3 changes this by making each of the five fighters in your team fully upgradeable solely using loot boxes, which are purchased using either its in-game currency or, you guessed it, with real money. While Star Wars Battlefront 2's loot boxes were particularly pernicious and gave players distinct advantages for forking out more cash, in UFC 3 a player can essentially make themselves untouchable by spending an exponential amount of money on the mode, equipping their fighters with abilities that dramatically increase their stats and afford them new abilities.

Though this is only UFC 3's closed beta, its Ultimate Team mode is built from the ground up to revolve around obtaining cards which can only be "earned" in its loot box-esque card packs. Without these cards fighters are left completely useless, and obtaining better ones can transform your team into a gang of amateurs to an undefeated mob of hard-hitters. If this is the way EA intends to implement this system in the final release of UFC 3, then it looks set to be the most egregious example of microtransactions in a retail release yet.

Loot boxes in UFC 3. FFS EA.

Bought Dark Souls 2: Scolar of the First Sin for buttons on the 360. Gonna have a session tomorrow.
Have fun. :)
If you get annoyed by hit-boxes (know it's not hit-boxes, but it's the best way for me to explain the issue i had) then just go hex for normal enemies and have a sword for bosses. Makes you more squishy vs bosses and you'll deal less damage if you avoid using hexes on them, but the troll at the beginning had me infuriated with the idea of running melee in DS2.

Considering buying Okami HD on PS4 (never played any version before). I know it's well thought of, any of you played it?

Very surprised that only myself and @Sassy Colin play Real Racing 3 on the forum, its by far the best mobile racing game by a mile.

Saw something I’ve wanted for a long time in CEX earlier..

Worst part is it’s still cheaper than eBay :(

Why is it so expensive? I need to visit these kinds of shops more often.
