I would've gone with Pele myself but I know exactly what you mean about him being so difficult to turn down.
The problem with Pele is that he's the same decade as Best and Beckenbeuer, 2 players i also wouldn't mind at some point in this if i progressed, whereas Messi is the standout player of his decade.
I also think theres more options at centreforward that i would be happy with than those that can play wide. Messi can do both.

If everyone had to draft from the same decade in each round, the order would be much fairer... last in one decade would be first in the next etc...
That would mean top and bottom person ending up with several top picks each. Also I have been in the top, in the middle and in the bottom in drafts. I think it does not matter that much.
I've always said the middle is the place to be and this will be no different. Constraints bring about different dynamics and if you are top or bottom you are very exposed to them and have to get them right. In the middle you are more adaptable and never get a bad deal with reinforcements either.
Yeah, I don't think it makes a huge difference, particularly with such large pools of players to pick from.
I wouldn't mind being last in the order, that way you know if you go through, you have first choice of reinforcements. Makes picking the initial squad a little bit easier IMO...
