Joshua is a better boxer than given credit for, but Usyk is just different class. It could be interesting because this is potentially last chance saloon for Joshua, and as we saw against Klitschko, he does have grit and heart. Along with a ferocious uppercut.
I’ve always wanted Joshua to be better than he actually is, because I loved the idea of having a truly dominant Brit be HW world champ. Fury is an excellent champ, but he’s also a shit house of a person, so as much as I admire his skill, I can’t ever take to him as a champ. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed his merciless pounding of an even bigger shit house in Wilder.
I think, hope, this will be a spectacle because Joshua will bring his A game, but my head says Usyk all day long. In the past my heart would be saying, Please Joshua find a way, but my admiration for Usyk has only gone up since he returned to the Ukraine to fight the Russians. A victory for him would please not only my head, but also my heart.
No shade on Joshua, because I do think he’s better than many give him credit for - especially as he’s always been willing to take whatever fights he could and never ducked anyone - but he’s a couple of tiers short of the truly top level, and if he beats Usyk then it will be a real case of overachievement. If he goes out with this fight, I hope he goes out with a roar, rather than a whimper. Last fight he was outboxed on every level. The only way for him to win here is through sheer ferocity and size, which carries its own risks. But if it is the end of the road for him, I hope he makes it such an end, that he can go out with his head held high.
