The RedCafe Boxing Thread

I had Conlan well up like most others but Wood's refusal to go away and sheer determination is to be admired - some effort from both of them.

I'm not sure i'd be bothered about a rematch if i was Wood, surely the money fight would be Warrington outdoors assuming he beats Martinez.

I was a massive Haye fan but at heavyweight he really sullied his reputation. Pulling out of all those fights and toegate made him look more like a poser than a fighter. Nas is one of my favourite fighters of all time so I'd definitely have him above Haye but I'm biased.
Yea, the constant pulling out really wore thin and made me lose interest. I think he did it three times with Fury and Fury was talking about Haye and then Haye said openly he’d never fight Fury. That led me to believe he never attended to fight him and it was all a big gimmick.

Thoughts on the Hall v Thor fight?

They've both been embarrassing themselves in the buildup to it. I hate seeing these social media stars and assorted celebrities pretending to be fighters but is it just a reflection of the weak state of boxing at the moment?

I hope Eddie Hall sparks the cnut out.

No interest at all, these fights with huge, untrained guys usually turn into massive hugging matches, with bloody noses. Makes a mockery of the years of training actual fighters go through to learn their craft.

That's what I mean. None of them would last a single round with a professional fighter, but its undeniable they're pulling in big purses now in some cases as big as real boxers. How does the sport get back to the ferocious, hungry fighters that people want to watch.

I don’t know, I still like it and think there’s a lot of good fighters in the sport, but too many belts and the best don’t always fight the best. Too much concentrated on not losing the 0 than actually fighting top guys, like we seen with Conlan last week, unravels then when they come up against a top fighter.

Another gripe I have is why doesn’t Canelo give Andrade a shot if he is so fearless and wants to fight everyone?

Because like any other pro right now he's all talk. The aim of the game is maximise your purse and pick the right fights... unfortunately.

These are a level or two above social media stars from a likeable aspect….at least they’ve competed at the highest level of a sport

B365 tells me that one ‘Sonny Liston Ali’ is fighting Lee Glover at 6pm (channel unknown). Not sure who the feck that is but I’m expecting fireworks!

He’s definitely fighting Muhammad Waseem in Dubai, probably would be 6pm but show starts at 4:45pm on Eurosport 2, I’ll change that now.

Ortiz was supposed to fight on DAZN too but pulled out last minute.

Nah this is a different kid, check it out, guys name is actually Sonny Liston Ali! Gotta have brass balls to change your name to that as a boxer

I don't know. Anthony Small used to call himself 'Sugar Ray Cassius Clay Jones Junior' but he's most noted for becoming an Islamic extremist. Boxing seems to attract an outsized number of deluded oddballs. I suppose this shouldn't be a surprise for a career choice which involves getting repeatedly punched in the face.

Lets not forget Uzzy

I think he’s on the undercard of Avanesyan on BT Sports, it’s his first fight as well 0-0-0 record, must be a wind up, I expect him to get ktfo.

:lol: yeah I suppose the question is, were they odd before all the punches in the face or did it happen over time

he’s a heavy favourite….I’m expecting to see at least a few fast shuffles and a menacing stare, anything less will be a disappointment

Showed a lot of heart McKenna, fair play going so long took some punishment. Prograis is quality mind.

Certainly agree about the 0 part, it’s become a ridiculous part of the sport where people feel it defines greatness. When it’s just us the fans who miss out from fantastic boxing matches.

Whilst I think Canelo picks his fights carefully, Bivol is certainly a tougher fight than Boo Boo who would probably get stopped.

This is a bit scrappy, but a decent watch, feel something is going to happen.

What’s Brandon Williams chatting about? They’re definitely pissed.

Yo, anyone got a stream to the Barry Hall Sonny Bill Williams fight, can you PM me a reliable site? Thanks!

Don’t think I’ve ever watched a Josh Warrington fight where he hasn’t nutted his opponent into a bad cut

My nephew is competing in his first bout on may 7th. He makes 5 quid from every ticket sold and he's already sold 60...

Nathan Deakin... Remember the name lads :D
