Well there is no debate. I'd rather be a proficient guy whom will wind you and possible collapse your lungs, rather than a guy who will try to throw jabs and straights. I mean how many times have you seen that in a street fight? it's always a brawl and judo is undoubtedly the most effective martial art.

You have completely missed the whole point of the discussion haven't you? We were talking about weight and weight classes. You only have experience in a limited skill set, that isn't much to go on. I've done Karate, BJJ, MT, MMA & Boxing for reference. When it comes to boxing, which is the discussion we're having, weight is very important, same with MMA too.

If you had have done BJJ then you'd not have been so dismissive of Judo. JJ was a last resort for Samurai, as I'm sure you know but now that none of us are Samurai but are, indeed a bunch of drunken feckwits whom have no idea how to particularly do anything except to flap like fecking headless chickens and hope we hit something.

That Askren is an embarrassment to combat sports. I've never been an MMA/UFC fan, but to come into a boxing match like that, with the weight and fecking stupid stance, is ignorant as hell. Even as a UFC fighter, how do you not know even the basics of boxing or just throwing a punch?
I mean, a simple correction from his coach on day one and he learns how to position his hands to guard himself. It is just more and more headscratching the more I think about it. I'm genuinely leaning towards thinking he didn't do a single day of training, he was that bad. I said to somebody I know, if he'd have trained at the boxing gym I used to train at, even with all the amateurs, he'd comfortably be the worst guy in the room. That was based on his pad videos. Absolute joke.

His wrestling was stellar though, which got him through. Once he got his hands on his opponent then that was pretty much that.
The boxing is just a means to make money, earned by his ability to talk shite.

I don't blame Askren. He saw a quick and easy cash grab. I blame the audience for feeding into this. I blame them for making Jake Paul into something "relevant." I don't blame him making money off acting a clown and making more money off people willing to shell out. I blame boxing for being so shitty that it's opened the floodgates for this. Boxing is a great sport, but unfortunately it's poorly run and the promoters are only about themselves and many of the fighters are. It's the "era of the duck" now where too many talented fighters talk about fighting on social media but don't want to challenge the top guys. Ryan Garcia is the poster boy for this, but he's not alone. A quality fighter like Spence is laughing in the fans faces with his blatant ducking of Crawford, and people who are fans of his promoter (that's how bad it is - promoters have blinded fans now) just support it and say "Spence getting that money woo woo" like he'll share it with them. He won't. All these organizations creating multiple belts as though four organizations wasn't enough and 17 divisions isn't enough they create extra titles within the same division and sanction BS catch-weights for belts. That just leads to this promotional merry-go-round where they cherry pick a title, then vacate it and go for another easy one so they can stat stuff and say "I'm a 7 time champion", like Broner being a "four division champion." It was enough 10-15 years ago. It's beyond that now.
A lot of true fans have lost interest and now people who are into this Jake Paul nonsense won't bother with the true fighters and fights like Estrada-Chocolatito, lower weight Asian fighters like Inoue etc; because the sport is too watered down. They don't want competitive matches. They don't want greatness. They don't care about fans.

Sky will maybe pick up Mick Hennessy now will they, he’s currently does channel 5 and let’s be honest it’s only a little bit of blood thirst on a Saturday night can’t see it not being as popular.
I've had DAZN here in America since it started. It's crap. The production value is low. Tons of time between fights with nothing. Just a still of the ring with no commentary or anything. Terrible commentary team and just the feel of a low-value product. I really miss HBO. Also awful cards most of the time. Mismatches, showcase matches, fights that build towards nothing.
To be honest they are all crap. PBC on Fox is turd, Showtime has some great commentators and analysists but they seldom do cards, pretty much just PPV and the fights aren't PPV worthy. ESPN is better than DAZN, but not a patch on HBO and a lot of mismatches.
I'm very concerned with where the sport is at right now. I watch it all because I am a junkie and I respect the fighters so much but I don't blame people for losing touch with it all.
The awful cards, mismatches, showcases and fights that lead to nothing is definitely the hallmark of matchroom boxing, that’s why I’m not really bothered about DAZN, plus I’m of an age that streaming isn’t really for me.
I agree with were boxing is at the minute the best don’t fight the best anymore and it’s all centred around getting every penny out of the fans. I would miss it if Sky didn’t put some kind of boxing on as I’m not a big MMA fan, but feel maybe Bellator will be the new draw for Sky.

Dazn isn't really a massive thing here and I can't see many subscribing to it just to watch Conor Benn, Chisora, Cheeseman etc. If AJ isn't signed up to it I'd argue that it won't really effect anything. Sky will just find another promoter to fill the void of average fighters on a Saturday night. Hearn has been putting any half decent fighters behind the box office paywall for years.
I'd guess way over half of People who have Sky Sports have it cos of the Premier league...even if that's not the case I bet close to no one has it because of the boxing alone its just a nice extra. I doubt they are to bothered by it Sky...think Hearn may regret it in a few years though. The reality is if you're not under the Sky umbrella sometimes you may as well not exist, they get massive coverage from stuff like SSN on everywhere all day, they've even managed to get a load of followers on YouTube, Facebook etc so dominate that as well. They are the masters of talking up average fighters and making them must watch as Hearn and match room have benefited from for years.
Be funny if Joshua calls his bluff and has that put in the contract.
I hope this is all BS just to hype and hype so that when it gets made “official” it’s huge but with Hearn and the Middle East involved I am a little concerned. Middle East proposed fights almost always don’t come to fruition.

How is this card PPV? Feels it must be counterproductive. Surely very few people will bother paying to watch Chisora v Parker and women’s boxing is still fairly low interest generally. Would be much better having this type of card free to air and building a following who will then pay for future bigger events.
I remember when Hearn burst onto the scene and derided his rivals for putting soft cards on PPV. How things have changed, it feels like every second Matchroom card is a dubious PPV.

Joseph Parker has been a bit of a let down as he's stepped up. Nothing display against Joshua, outhustled against Whyte, a close one here against Chisora. He looked very good as an upcoming prospect but at this point he does not appear to be a major contender. Seems to spend far too much time giving ground, holding, and thinking the odd burst is enough. It may be tonight, but only just.
Close one but Chisora always seems to miss out on the close ones!
