Out of interest and if you're willing to indulge us to give you more of a challenge next year (and ignoring the fact that as a non-United supporter I'm not welcome in your league) would you have any Top Tips?
For example - do you prefer a strong defense to a strong attack? 3 at the back or 5 at the back etc. Lump it all on midfield?
No more than 2 from any team?
I'm really just looking for anything to kill a bit of time until the new season starts as it's killing me.
Sure thing mate, but baring in mind last season was the only season I have actually tried to play this game strategically, as there was money on the line.
My formation for 99% of games is 3-4-3.
GK: I go for a reasonably cheap goalkeeper e.g. Jussi who is guaranteed gametime, in addition to a very cheap backup at around 4.0, usually from a promoted club. Not a fan of paying big money for goalkeepers really.
DF: I always try to play with 3 at the back. Generally, that would involve 1 defender from the top 4 clubs, and two other decent defenders priced at around 5.0 or below. The remaining defenders will be 4.0's from newly promoted clubs.
MF: I fill the midfield up with 3 big hitters e.g. Bale, Mata, Silva. Leave 1 first team midfield spot for your reasonably priced 'punt' e.g. Michu. I had Michu at the beginning of the season before most people knew about him and he was a great differential.
FW: 2 big hitters and one reasonably priced player around 6.0. There is ALWAYS one cheap/reasonably priced striker who keeps up, or even manages to outscore the big boys. e.g. Lambert, Benteke.
Other things I would add include:
- Be sure to watch pre-season games of any premier league clubs when you can. Gives you a good idea of who is in form and the chance to watch any new signings.
- Build up your team value using TotalFPL or Fiso (Google them) - Your player has to rise 0.2 for you to get 0.1 back from him. Player prices are very volatile and go up and down at the end of every day. If you leave a player in your team for too long and he is not performing, you can bet he is going to get transferred out by the masses and you will lose value on him, in addition to overal team value. Needless to say, the more value your team is, the more chance you have of getting the more expensive players in to your team.
- Use your wildcard at the right time - e.g. 99% of the time there are always disruptions and cancellations to matches around Christmas time, mainly because of the weather, so it is important to take note of this. Also, when there is a double gameweek. A double gameweek means 2 clubs or more will play twice in a single gameweek, therefore obviously making them most likely to rack up the big points. If the fixtures for the double gameweek look tasty I would go for it, depending on how many players you already had for that gameweek. Oh, and be sure to captain one of the double gameweek players too.
