Anyone on here a fan of the US version? I fecking love it. Dwight and Michael are brilliant, as are most of the characters to be fair. Dwight in particular though.

I do love the office, the us one. but the uk one was something else. something we wonð't see again for years. So for me the uk on will alway be superior for the fact that the uncomfortable aspect is so agonly funny

Dwight is fecking hilarious, love how he has weapons stored all of the office

Dwight is awesome, and I have to admit I do like Pam a lot better than Dawn, who i think is too stuck up. Brentie shits all over Michael Scott though, no contest.

No offence Duffer, but you're DEAD wrong.

Ricky Gervais, and the UK version, are the original and the best.

Of course the UK version is great (and I do really like Gervais), but i'm a big Steve Carrell fan and the fact that the US office has run for 5 seasons now has allowed the characters to develop in a way the UK characters did not have the chance to do.

I started watching US Office a little while ago, watched all the series at least 2 times now. I thought the UK version was great, but I love the other series. I think they have the perfect characters too, Dwight is amazing, and everyone in the Office is brilliant in their own way.

Only thing that rivals The Office (USA) for me is Arrested Development.

The first season of the us version wasn't as good because they were trying to be just like the uk office. After that though they started to go in their own direction and were better off for it. It's an absolutely hilarious show. The Andy v Dwight episode a few weeks back was classic.

I'd agree with that, fecking hell though, Arrested Development was majestic television at times.

It's stupid that people still compare the original UK version to this, they've very little in common other than their name. Both are fantastic in their own way.

Arrested Development would get close to being my favourite comedy series of all time. I will never, ever forgive the yanks for cancelling it.

The US version is more a 'show' and the UK one more a 'mockumentary' IMHO

I prefer the US office. The first season was awful because of they just tried to copy the UK version. It's now a completely different show.

But the UK office was the only thing on TV that made me genuinely cringe. NOthing will ever beat it for the awkward funny moments.

Same here, although the quality did start to decline towards the end of the 3rd series.

That wasn't their fault though, the writers knew they were getting canceled, they had to try tie up a lot of loose ends that were supposed to be tied up over time.

Overall though, it's probably the best piece of US comedy made in the last 10 years. The Office, How I Met Your Mother, Entourage and Curb Your Enthusiasm aren't half bad either mind.

Great show.

In one of the previous episodes of season 5, the one where they get a dummy to perform CPR on, I literally spent 20 mins watching and rewatching that scene, crying of laughter.

To be fair, I only watched a few eps of the first series. The UK version is so much superior. It's in a league of it's own.

You are right, UK version is just in a different class but US one gets good by mid season 2. Even then it is not must watch TV.

Haven't seen either vershion though I am meaning to catch the UK one soon.

The characters just don't feel as well rounded. If anything they felt rather two dimensional. And I just didn't like the US Dave Brent - I have never found the actor playing him to be funny, in any of his films. To be fair, the UK version is a bit like marmite, I can see why people won't like it - it's(was) different to a lot things out there.

Yeah, it was great. The bad thing about season 5 is the 6th episode, I think, which was unbelievably cringe worthy and made me stop watching the series for some months but then it got really good.

Aye, just started watching 'Always sunny in Philadelphia' a couple of days ago. Another very good show!

Well there's your problem then. The first series is just a carbon copy of the English show, it's in the second series when they branch off and do their own thing that it gets good, and the 3rd series is absolutely sublime. I recommend you stick with it, it gets brilliant.

It'll never top Arrested Development (what possibly could?) but it's a not too distant 2nd for me at the moment, in terms of American comedies.

Michael Scott and David Brent are two very different characters, even though they play the same role in their respective shows/offices. Brent's dream is to leave the office and become a famous comedian, and that's why he's doing the documentary. He couldn't give a shit about his workers. Michael LOVES being a paper salesman, and genuinely loves the people working under him (they're the only family he has). The producer of the US show said that Michael is doing the documentary in the hopes that Jennifer Aniston will see it and think he's funny.

I'd disagree with you about the American characters not being well rounded. In particular, they've developed Dwight far more than Gareth, giving him a whole backstory (his grandparents were Nazis, he runs a beet farm with his retarded brother), plus a real romantic relationship of his own.
