The Next World Record Transfer Will Be....

Hard to see this actually being broken for me anytime soon given what a ridiculous overpay it actually was.

The only way I see it being beaten probably before the end of the decade is if the Saudi's pump so much money into their league that it is legitimised across Europe and seen as a viable option for some of the world's best players in their prime.

Mbappe moved for a similar sum that very same summer. By all acounts, Madrid were willing to match the tranfer fee at the time, but failed to reach agreement on his wages, and would have again agreed to pay roughly that much directly at multiple points since, had PSG been more willing to negotiate. (It's not at all unlikely they've paid roughly the same in total on his current deal as a free agent. And a Saudi club did allegedly offer more last season to get him for a year.)

If this current record stays unbroken for much longer, it'll probably be due to other factors rather than sheer outlandishness. (Lack of similar talent on the market, players and agents prioritizing free transfers, a potential decrease in future funds, etc.)

Didn’t Neymar go for £200m? There’s no way Barcelona would reject more than that for Yamal considering their current financial state

I find it fairly likely that they would (disregarding for the moment that they claim they have), unless his wages got so out of hand they literally couldn't afford them anymore (and even then, they're likely to structure them towards a future payoff first and worry about it later). They have other sellable assets to default to first, but only so many ways they can afford to piss their members off.

I don't know but if we look at it, Neymar joined PSG on a free because he was a free agent.

Neymar bought himself out of his contract (with the money from Qatar). So technically this isn't a world record transfer imo

So did we sign Ander Herrera as a free agent? Was Javi Martinez not Bayern's transfer record until this summer?

And did Spanish and/or French authorties come after Neymar for not paying income tax on this staggering 220 million Euro payment? Was he ever investigated for receiving payment from one club while under contract to another? Could he really have joined any other club but PSG after buying out his contract? And wouldn't that have given Barcelona (who were far from sporting over any aspect of this transfer) avenue to persue both sides for making illegal contact if it were anything but a vague technicality?

I think it's a matter of record now that PSG have handled it like any other transfer in their own books, but I'm skeptical that there was ever a point where this line of thought really made much sense.

Yamal to a state run team somewhere.

Haaland once he gets bored of City and starts agitating for a move to a big club.

I think it's Vini, there has been more noise about him moving than others.
