The new Newbie System is now in effect

Good to hear the system worked well and is being rolled out to all newbies. It will keep a lot of newbies from losing heart and giving up on the site.

Bloody newbs, coming here and taking our green smileys

Hopefully the forums won't be overloaded with newbies who don't stay around the caf for very long. I like how it's right now - 'knowing' most posters.

Depends on whether they get jumped on or not.

Great! I benefitted from the system as well and I totally enjoyed it. Actually I'd thought it had already been generalised to all newbs. I think mingling with full members in the Main's helps improve the quality of newbies' posts and having that limited number of daily posts makes you treasure each post you make. I don't get what some of the older full members are worried about. The more pages in the muppet summer transfer mega-thread the better

Having just been promoted I enjoyed the way the newbie system worked, I feel it encourages more thoughtful posts and discussions. There are some good posters in the newbie forum too.

Enjoying being a full member now though :D

Could someone develop a Chrome add-on that automatically blocks all posts from newbies?

Is this serious?
Are you so elite that it is beneath your dignity to read posts from new members?

New system sounds great, and the quality of posts from newbies on trial has generally been high.

Any chance there's full member/newbie survey data which can help substantiate the change to a new system?

Is there any way you can advise Newbies that using laughing smileys makes them look like imbeciles? Maybe suggest that the best posters rarely if ever use them. Or restrict them to one each a year. Or just ban them after three? Anything really.

Why do they have to get as much as 1 like before posting in the mains? That's excessive in my opinion. Should be 0 likes so we don't miss out on gems and excellent contributions like these:

Africa players, lazy and fraud.

We also get unacceptable posts from mains posters from time to time. Racist stereotyping isn't confined to newbies.

Well thought out system.

Let's have a good time together! :D

Feck. Was hoping this trial would fail so we could go back to the old system.

Nah just joking. Or am I? :)

Is the latest system even working? For every decent newbie there seems to be about a dozen trolls coming through. A lot of those trolls are being banned to be fair but the question is whether they in the first place should have been permitted to post in the mains. Maybe the quantity of posts has gone up but the quality certainly hasn't improved.

You can blame the scouts for that. @RedSky especially.

Working pretty well in that there has been a 15% reduction in the number of new registrations with zero posts. Bannings have increased to deal with the trolls but the majority of 'bad' posts by new members shouldn't even make it to the forum as they would have been rejected in the moderation queue.
