The New Kits Thread

A photo of the Barca shirt:

The 2009-2010 Chevron kit was badly designed. It never grew on me, I tried, but never happened.

Black collars/necks are cheap looking, the black collar of the 1994-96 kit is very smart designed though, not a pure black collar as well.

The only Nike kits I like are 2006-07, 2007-09 and this season's. 3 out of 9 Nike kits I like. :annoyed:

I enjoyed the away shirt from 09/10.

the blue wont happen, well have the red, a new white and this years blue stripey number for a third kit

Yeah I don't understand why people believed we'd have two blue aways in a row.

Since we've had Nike we've generally gone white/black or blue/white/black or blue

White (02/3)
Black (03/4 and 04/5)
Blue (05/6)
White (06/7)
Black (07/8)
White (08/9)
Black (09/10)
White (10/11)
Blue (11/12)

???

It will be white.

I'm not a big fan of them but we've always had one available every since Nike took over and for most of the time in the 45 years before that. Adidas always did white aways for us too. Only Umbro have been adventurous with the clours of our away kits.

92/3 and 93/4 are the only times I can think of that we've not had a white kit in the rotation somewhere (if you count that blue and white striped abomination from the mid 90s as a white shirt)

Some supposed info about next season's Nike kits:

Manchester United

A new design for the new Red Devils’ shirts as Nike opts for a checkered design. The home shirt will feature a black v-neck and a red checkered body in 2 different shades of red.The new away shirt is white with a red collar and has the Manchester United badge in black and white.

White kit?

I didn't count the striped kit, it was more blue than white.

Nike have only ever given us white, blue or black away kits. Umbro gave us blue, black (our first), green and gold, navy, grey and gold. Some were much better than others but at least they weren't predictable.

We've a very long tradition of wearing white and we won our first trophy in it. We won the Cup Winners Cup in white and we beat Arsenal in that semi-final in white. We've had a number of excellent games in white...

However, we've lost two Champions League finals in white, a European Cup semi-final in white (1969), two League Cup finals in white (1983 and 2003 - both times to Liverpool), an FA Cup final in white (1957 as well as drawing one in 1990) and we've been dumped out of the Champions Leage several times in white (2000/01, 2001/02, 2004/05, 2006/07 and 2011/12).

Obviously it's not the kit's fault but white has not done us many favours over the past 100 plus years.

So our away kit next season will continue this new trend of club crests matching the colours of the away kit (like Liverpool have done this season)? Not a fan of that, at all.

I initially liked this season's kit but now it looks kind of bland to me. Last season's kit had the potential to be class had it not for Nike to feck up the collars. The best kit of recent years imo is the 06/07 kit. It was a looker, that one.

The checkered pattern isn't a bad idea. I rather like the diamond pattern on Liverpool's kits. However, the black neck is a mistake. Suited with a white collar, we could be on to something.

Oh well. Leave it up to Nike to come up with a half assed design for their biggest client.

To be fair to Nike, their designs are half-arsed for Barca and the rest of their teams. The need to change them every season only exacerbates the problem.

If that design is true it is dreadful.

Never been a fan of white aways either. Black kits please.

There must be a logic to the kit designs, these people are at the top of their games, it obviously doesn't impact on player performance so it must be down to maximising sales of replica shirts...who in their right mind would buy that shirt though?

To be fair, "who in their right mind would buy that shirt though?" has been said an awful lot in the last 20 or so years. Obviously some people are buying them. It is dreadful though and it looks as if it has been designed purely with the thought of minimising production costs. The design itself couldn't have taken longer than 15 minutes to produce. Good news for me though as it'll only take me about 5 minutes to do the pictures for my website.

Fair enough, people will obviously still buy it but surely more people would buy it if it didn't look so dreadful? Unless tartan/checks is all the rage in the far east or some other 'emerging' market..?

People looking for gifts for United fans, people who simply want a United shirt, or people who collect each shirt as a matter of course/wouldn't be seen dead in last season's shirt. If there are more completists than people who only buy if they like the design then it makes sense regardless of how good or bad the design is.

Well, Adidas do need a new Engish team on their books after they ditched Liverpool, but our deal with Nike runs until 2015 and is more dependent on the money they pay us rather than the quality of the designs. I'm not a fan of Adidas in general, but they couldn't produce much worse than this lumberjack/tartan/teacloth effort, could they.

How about a set of tities ala Chelsea 09/10. They do just as many shit kits as Nike and you have to put up with the shit white stripes on the shirt every year. No thank you.

Besides Nike is so synonymous with United that they'll just beat everybody else out of submission when our contracts are up. After Jordan, we're pretty much the next big thing in their sport portfolio along with Woods and Federer.

Yes, there are lots of things I don't like about adidas - many of the same things as you - but they are also capable of making stunning kits on occasion whereas Nike are just getting worse and worse (although not quite as bad as Puma). Umbro would be ideal but as they are owned by Nike it's never going to happen.

I don't think United are synonymous with Nike either, and surely Barca and Brazil are just as big assets for them.

Puma's absolutely horrible, I see Spurs have ditched them as well and are going with Under Armour next year.

Yes, they are dreadful, aren't they?!

Anyway, here's an idea of what a modern United shirt would look like if made by adidas - all I've done is added the logos and tweaked the colours on a couple of their templates for this season:

Not too sure about those Newcastle kits given that the new ones will feature Virgin Money as the sponsor rather than Northern Rock.

Like the link says, the kits will have been designed and prototypes produced in advance of the Virgin Money deal going through.
